It was an old spectrum game which was CRAMMED into 48k. Always sounded like the most awesome game. You could be a trader or a fighter in space. Like a space RPG.

Anyway know of anything like this you could recomend for the PC?

The X series is probably your best bet. Three game series that is pretty much exactly the same concept as Elite (trade, combat etc. in space) all done in pretty 3D.

Goes X: Beyond The Frontier -> X2: The Threat -> X3: Reunion.

Then there's Freelancer, which is similar in style but is apparently a bit easier to pick up. Never played it, but it's meant to be good.

And finally there's an MMO type game in that style called EVE Online - it's probably the most complicated of the lot, but it's pretty much infinitely open ended.
