View Full Version : The Road to Summerslam

So now WWE is moving past Wrestlemania 23, one of the best overall shows they have ever produced (arguably) and headed onto SummerSlam 2007. You never really know what to expect at SummerSlam these days but I get the feeling that WWE will really build this year to a hopefully great and memorable show.

With that said, this early in the game its very hard to say what any feud or matches on the card could be however there were reports that McMahon wants to do a match with Rey Mysterio Jr., which would make sense, possibly a feud with Umaga on the way wouldn't be a bad idea. The Undertaker is rumored to have a very long title reign so it is quite possible he will be defending in the main event. The New Breed/ECW Originals feud could come to a head at Summerslam, but who knows? What do you think is potential for Summerslam, and also what would you hope for?

I stopped reading after you said WM 23 was one of the best overall shows they have ever produced.

I wanna see Paul Burchill return by then and get into a feud with Mr Kennedy, coming to a head at summerslam in a ladder match for the MITB contract. Burchill wouldn't win but it'd elevate him to top card draws. And wrestlemania was awsome, no thanks to the ecw match

I like you Jordan X, which is why I'm not going to neg rep you for not saying that WM 23 was some terrible shit.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!!!!

Seriously, I thought 'Mania was pretty mediocre. Not god-awful, but mediocre nonetheless.

But WM23 was a hell of a lot better than Lcokdown.

Triple H is probably going to have his return match, either with Cena or teaming with Michaels.

Also, I'm betting that Kennedy will cash in the MITB there, whether it's for the main event or the old after the match switcharoo.

I was thinking Kennedy would use it after the Last Man Standing match.

Taker will likely come out of that looking strong, so I don't see that happening.

It's too early for him to drop the title, since I expect Kennedy will take the title when he cashes in.

What if...

The Vengeance poster is, in fact, eluding to a Triple Threat Title Unification match. The match happens, so and so wins (by so and so I mean Cena)...Cena is in the ring celebrating with all the belts when all of a sudden "MMMIIIISSSSTTTAAAAAHHHH KKKEEEENNNNNEEEEDDDDYYYYY"...Kennedy wins the new undisputed title.

MISTAAH KENNEDY!

Kennedy comes out and gets squashed by Cena in a minute. F-U, STFU, Keneddy taps. Confetti rains down and Cena celebrates.

^^More likely....^^

...except of course for the obvious fact that it would never happen, because everybody that's held the contract previously has become champ, and WWE is scared to "break tradition"( :?: ) pfft...c'mon, Vince, give me a break!

Unrelated to SummerSlam, but I just realized what the MITB gimmick is like: Hardcore 24/7 rule! Imagine if, on RAW, they open with a shot of Kennedy sneaking into Cena's room at 3 in the morning and having him pin him. That would be pretty awesome, especially if Cena never woke up during the "match".

Be a little hard for Cena not to wake up from the pain of a Green Bay Plunge or a Kenton Bomb especially if either was performed from his top bunk, unless he got K.O.'d in the process...then he'd really be "asleep"...

This thread isn't about Wrestlemania but since a few people want to talk about my opinion on the show I have to give a rebuttal.

Wrestlemania had a lot of really good matches (MITB, HBK/Cena, Taker/Batista, MVP/Benoit/Umaga/Lashley). It wasn't Wrestlemania 17 good but it was big as hell with over 80,000 people making it one of the 3 biggest crowds WWE has ever drawn, that alone made the atmosphere at the event amazing. Marks loved the event, it was full of excitetment, enterainment, big matches, big moves, and big moments. There were let downs at WM such as Khali and Kane and the Womens Title match. I don't see why some people didn't enjoy WM 23, I wish you could take youself out of your smart mark IWC chair every now and then, put youself in the position you were when you were a kid and enjoy the show. The majority of WWE fans try to suspend their belief to have a fun time while they watch the show. It seems a lot of fans on TPWW don't even like wrestling but perfer the backstage drama and ongoings... and thats pretty gay. WWE booked the best show they could for WM 23, how do I proove this? Look how many people were there! Look how many are rumored to buy the show (a ppv audience of about 1 million is expected!)

There are WWE PPV's that I have hated myself for buying, I thought Wrestlemania this year was gonna be special, and it was, im still ok with paying 50 bucks for the fake sport that I watch every week. I really wish a lot of you could enjoy it the way that I did, I just don't get it.

Blah, Cena is asleep on his back, Kennedy slowly and quietly plants a single hand on his sternum... ONE TWO THREE run like hell.

You're missing out on something so much more important. There is a much... much bigger tradition than the MITB winner winning the title after cashing it in. John Cena has a storied tradition of overcoming the odds and beating all challengers when spinny is on the line.

Those matches were good, not really any of them were great. At least not compared to what we usually see at Wrestlemania. The venue and setup was amazing, but the crowd was silenced by the cavernous roof of that arena, so the atmosphere was anything but amazing, there were practically no pops, cheers or boos audible.
MITB was good but it should have and could have been way better, yet they took their 2 most skilled ladder match wrestlers out of the contest early on in a worked spot that wasn't even that great.
Undertaker vs Batista was better than expected, and actually decent, but come on dude.
Cena vs Michaels, again decent, but nothing special and dissapointing for HBK's WM standards.
Umaga/Lashley. Ha, yea. Well it was entertaining as hell thanks to Austin, Shane/Vince and Trump, who made up for all the best moments and spots. So yea, it was good, but nothing to do with being a good match.

Plus as big as the arena and hype were, the event itself was that much smaller. Not enough matches, only 3 of them had any fucking meaning, and the matchups were for the most part fuckin terrible. Plus the show was patchworked. They'd just announce the match individually, there were no transitional segments or interviews, ongoing story segments, or that normal cohesive flow given to any PPV, especially manias. There were just pre-recorded commercials and hype videos.
The whole thing was one big awkward silence.

It was a good show, and you should fucking know that I like wrestling and can and do enjoy things for what they are, but WM23 was only good. It wasn't great and it sure as hell wasn't good for Wrestlemania. Ever since WM17 the Wrestlemanias have been phenomenal, even if the product isn't, and this one just wasn't it.

Also, what happened to Wrestlemania being eventful, and serving as a catapault for the companys direction for the year and with new storylines and wrestlers? It should be the season finale and season premeire all in one.

So say you don't order Wrestlemania. What did you miss?

-"Hey, what'd I miss last night"

-"Cena retained, Undertakers streak lives, Vince got his head shaved."

-"Knew it. Anything else?"

-"Nah, there were a few other matches but nothing happened"

-"Ok, good thing I saved 50 bucks"

I have since watched WrestleMania 23 for free online...and I have to say, I still feel like I was ripped off. Jordon, the fact that you think it could be "one of the best overall shows they have ever produced" is a very weird thought and while you and I have shared very few similar views, this has driven a giant gap between us, one which I doubt will ever be filled.

I think thats strange too. I have no problem with him saying he enjoyed it, it was a fine show, just not for Wrestlemania. But as for it being one of the best show's they've ever produced? In 2000 they were putting on random monthly IYH ppvs that trumped this.
But especially Wrestlemania-wise, this falls way short. 17, 20, 14 and many many other shows rank higher than this. Even the majority of Summerslams have been higher in quality.

You know, that would actually get my attention to see what would happen next and make me tune in.
