View Full Version : How much does a replacement iPod battery cost?

Okay, so I'm shopping around for a replacement for my MP3 player. Creative has LOST me. Their latest series of fuckups has made it nigh on impossible for me to use my MP3 player. So I'm pondering selling out to the Devil, since that 80 GB player is mighty tempting and will hold me for a couple years (at least).

Thing is, I didn't see any like official batteries, and wondering what they run.

I'm considering a Zune, but with the limited storage space, I'd as soon go for something...You know, BIGGER.

Pretty sure you have to send away to the Apple if you need a new battery.

But an iPod would be good. I've had the 80GB almost a year now, and the only complaint I have is that it's not easy to move music from your iPod to your computer. Other than that it's been perfect.

Don't get a Zune. Those big screens suck battery life like nothing, and the thing is the size of a brick.

They are free if it breaks within the warranty which is default one year. I would suggest getting the extended warranty which is only about 30 dollars if I remember correctly that extends it for another year.

My battery was replaced after about 20 months. You have to send it away. For me I'm in the UK and they came and picked it up in a UPS van and then gave me a reconditioned one. So I didn't actually get the same iPod back. I think if your stateside (and therefore have more than 3 Apple stores) you can take it to an Apple store and they will send it off for you or you can just do it online like I did.

If its out of warranty it used to cost ALOT like $200 but I think they brought it down to about 70 after all that "iPod batteries are crap" lawsuit and stuff.

Holy fuck. 70 bucks to replace a battery, and you have to ship in the entire unit? Fuck that shit.

I remember when Apple nerds used to laugh at people running Windows because you'd just accept that you'd have to reboot the ystem now and again. This is infinitely more retarded.

They make these things as throw aways, Kane. If the battery dies, you basically have to buy a new one.

I did hear on the radio once about some dudes that are in business of replacing batteries in iPods. It's not cheap (like you already know) they are in business mainly because the consumer doesn't want to have to reload all the songs and are 'attached' to their existing iPods.

I also heard, there is a bit of a push against Apple to stop making the battery replacement so damn impossible. Time will tell if they do. They got a good thing going right now, getting people to replace their device with a new one every 2+ years.

Or sooner.

Though apparently, you can get third party replacement kits. Half the price, you can get the tools and a 2X battery. Don't know how reliable....Just thinking out loud at this point.

I just can't believe people are that quick to send off their MP3 player so they can get a refurb and reload their music onto a second hand player.

Thankfully, mine was free. It's gonna be a pain in the ass when it finally goes, though.

If the newer iPod's are anything like mine (3rd Gen), it will only have like 4 parts, including the battery. The only hard part is opening the iPod itself and finding a battery.

I have a sony walkman mp3, love it, the battery life is great. The software isn't as user friendly though

Can't be worse than Creative's. Their new updates are fucking awful.

Both of my brother's iPods have died. We got ours at the same time. I are worried. :'(

I've been doing more research, and it looks like it's still a shitty product.

I downloaded some updates for myCreatrive software, maybe it won't suck.
