My brother's friend went to England years ago and came home with the "Football's Coming Home" by Baddiel and Skinner or whatever. I think it was the 98 edition. Anyway, I've always really liked it. Are there any other songs like that for any sport?
That song in either form is the only sports song ever made that has been worth a damn

They played it as the team walked out during the England vs. Italy Under-21 match at Wembley and it was awesome. Do they always do that for England home matches?
I used to have some song on my computer about David Beckham where some guy was playing the piano and bitching about his red card against Argentina. Don't know where it went.

Footballs coming home is the only sports song worth mentioning. Love hearing it whenever its played at an England game, always uplifting when played at Wembley to. You should've seen it in Euro 96 when the Euro championships were in England and that song was first released in that year. Too bad we lost in the semi's to Germany, they fucking stole it in the final i think to.

Don't Come Home Too Soon by Del Amitri is a good football song. Better than Football's Coming Home, both as a song and in being realistic about a team's expectations.
It was for Scotland at World Cup '98 by the way.
That rave tune about Eric Cantona = :D

That's not a sports song.

It was the Saints "theme" song for all of last season.. U2 preformed it before the week three game against the Falcons, which was the reopening of the superdome..
Close enough..

And yes, U2 sucks..

Well no more than any other popular band who go on for years and years. Also they didn't write that song.

No, this thread was pretty clearly songs written about sports or teams. That song is about a soldier killed in Northern Ireland.

Well due to the fact that I can't stand U2 and don't follow them, I wouldn't know that..
I also don't care..

I think the Hurricane by Bob Dylan would technically count but I doubt it's what you're looking for.
I can't believe nobody mentioned "World In Motion" yet. It pains me to say it (being Scottish and all) but this is the best football song ever.
Well other than "Do The Wright Thing" :D

Sounds like "Dry Your Eyes Becks" which was a take on The Street's Dry Your Eyes

One single moment you whole life can turn around
In the distance I see Wayne Rooney falling to the ground
Looks like he's gonna give, then looks like he's not
But finally the referee is pointing to the spot
It's all come down to this then, It's like everybody says
As I stare into the eyes of Fabien Barthez
Will I go left?, Will I go right? Haven't decided yet
Sod it! I'll just stick the thing in the back of the bloody net
I let go with my right boot, my whole world begins to freeze
I'm begging the silver ball, please go in please
I see a union jack in the air as somebody waves it
But my whole world is in dispair cos Barthez saves it
-
Chorus
Dry your eyes Becks
I know it's hard to take but as I said before like
There's plenty more games in group B
Dry your eyes Becks
You'll have a chance to proove yourself against the swiss on Thursday
Or at the end of the day like,
It's over
-
So then the lads start looking at me as if I've commited a crime
But we're still 1-0 up going into injury time
The ref checks his watch and we all look at the clocks
Then Heskey commits a foul on the edge of our box
We all regroup and make a wall, stand there hand in hand
There's no sign of Posh at all, anywhere in the stand#
We all know what they're gonna do, it can only be one man
They all call him Zizou, his name is Zindine Zidane
I wonder if he remembers how in the tunnel I gave him a kiss
I wonder if it'll please, please make him miss!
But now he sticks in the net which means now we're all level
And all I've got left are the tears of Gary Neville
-
Chorus
Dry your eyes Becks
I know it's hard to take but as I said before like
There's plenty more games in group B
Dry your eyes Becks
You'll have a chance to proove yourself against the swiss on Thursday
Or at the end of the day like,
It's over
-
We're all over the shop, when will the ref blow the whistle?
We're not playing like England no more, more like Partick Thistle
We need a pep talk, a speech, a sermon
Cos we're not getting anything from this ref, who just happens to be German
There he goes again, giving out a yellow card
When suddenly the ball breaks to Steven Gerrard
I see the hopes of a nation, all gone up in flames
With a lunge of despairation from our keeper David James
The referee points to the spot,
God I'd give you a million quid
If you please please make Zidane do what I did.
But he sticks it in the net, how could I think he would miss
Cos I'm starting to regret giving Zidane that kiss
-
Chorus
Dry your eyes Becks
I know it's hard to take but as I said before like
There's plenty more games in group B
Dry your eyes Becks
You'll have a chance to proove yourself against the swiss on Thursday
Or at the end of the day like,
It's over

The only lyrics I remember from this Beckham song are "And as for David Beckham..." so I don't think it was that one. I'd imagine there are plenty though.
