Rampage Jackson is one of only three men to ever beat Chuck Liddell.. He is the only one of those three to never lose to Liddell soon there after.. These are two of my favorite fighters of all time.. I dunno who to pull for.. I'm leaning towards Jackson just to change things up at 205lbs.. This would also set up a better rematch between the two in UFC later on.. I know that a Liddell win sets up a rubberneck match but I'd hate to see someone eles step in to callenge if Rampage loses..
I dunno.. Can't f'n wait..

Chuck and his beer, peanuts and nyquill diets make me see a reason he can lose.
And I'm not saying with all that he can't win either.

I think Chuck's going to win. I don't know what it is about the guy but he just doesn't lose focus or get frustrated. I don't follow Pride too much but all I read is Rampage hasn't done shit since beating Liddell, whereas Chuck just gets better. Round 2 TKO in similar fashion to the last Tito fight.

Only two guys have beat Rampage since he beat Liddell in 2003..
Mauricio "Shogun" Rua
Wanderlei "The Ax Murderer" Silva (twice)
Both are title contending Pride fighters who would be the same in UFC.. I mean, UFC tried to get Silva to fight Liddell for the title..
What are you talking about??

Based off what I've read online, Rampage hasn't looked impressive. Also, I did watch their last fight and Liddell looked not like Liddell.

They might be saying that because out of the ten fights since Liddell, he has lost three and three of the seven wins were by decision.. But, the thing about him is, he is just a natural fighter.. No real style.. It's hard to counter a fighter who throws everything at his opponent.. He is not scared to lose..
You should not count him out because some nerdy Monday morning quarterback like Meltzer says he's not impressed..
Liddell is my favorite fighter but it would not suprise me if Rampage beat him...again..

Yeah I think he has.
First Wanderlei Silva fight made him find God. Then the 2nd Wanderlei fight made him lose his warrior spirit.
Hopefully he has found it, becasue if he hasn't he can't beat Chuck. Well who knows now a days about who can beat who, but you get the idea.

Out of curiousity, if Rampage did not beat Chuck in the first fight, would this fight even be happening?
For the up coming fight, do you think Rampage will actually be able to slam Liddell? Liddel easily handled Tito who's all about taking a guy down, he's beat Couture, Mr Wrestler twice. If Liddell is healthy, he will not end up on his back.

Quinton Jackson has a pretty good shot at beating Chuck Liddell when they have their re-match. Over the past year I've been trying to familarize myself with PRIDE, and one of the first matches I watched was Liddell v. Jackson. When I watched it I almost got sucked into the lame MMA myth that PRIDE is head and shoulders above UFC. To watch their first match is to see Liddell look his absolutely awful. I've never seen Liddell's first match against Horn, but I have seen his other two defeats at the hands of Couture and Jackson, Liddell looked much worse losing to Rampage then he did you The Natural. Both his match with Couture and Jackson went about the same way, they both ended in about thirteen minutes with Liddell getting pounded on from above, but everything that happened leading up to that was diffrent.
When Couture faught with Liddell you could see Liddell was a bit in awe of Randy, but was able to fight a pretty good fight. Couture was able to take down The Iceman at will but Liddell would always be able to pop right back up and continue until he ultimatly got knocked out. In contrast Liddell was taken down by Jackson at will but didn't pop back up. Liddell kept getting crushed by these looping haymakers that Jackson kept throwing, and eventually Liddell got knocked out after a lopsided fight.
Rumor has it though that during Liddell/Rampage I Liddell had torn muscles in his legs. At first when I heard this I thought it was cry baby non sense, but I've heard it in a few places, and when you watch the fight you can see it in action. Liddell usually checks his opponents with leg kicks so he can get in and bang, he didn;'t do so as fequently against Jackson. Liddell is usually good at avoiding strikes due to his foot work, that wasn't the case against Jackson. The most important thing about Liddell's game that leads one to believe he had an injury is the fact that Liddell didn't pop back up after getting taken down.
This all being said about Liddell's injury and how it affected the first fight is in no way to denograte Quinton Jackson's ability. Aside from Shogun, Hendo, Sokoudjou, Arona, and Wanderlei Silva, Jackson is the best Light Heavyweight in the buisness. However, since all the names I mentioned are in PRIDE thus wouldn't fight for the title and Jackson does deserve to get a shot at the title even if he and Liddell never faught before.
This fight is going to Chuck's biggest test of his UFC Championship reign. Jackson is basically like a stonger, more durable, better striking Tito Ortiz. In Liddell's last fight he had some trouble with Tito, and I think he'll have even more agaist Jackson. At the end of the day though I see Liddell winning the fight, but I think Chuck's streak of knock outs will come to end. I see this fight going all five rounds, and Liddell winning a close Unanimus decision. If it doesn't end like that Rampage will lose a controversal TKO with a quick ref stoppage or Rampage will win in the 4th or 5th round due to Liddell lacking condition. But if I were betting, which I wouldn't in MMA I got lucky betting on Gonzaga and lightning will not strike twice for me, I;d go with Liddell by decision.
people say he lost his edge ever since he went born again
Agree or disagree?
Wouldn't agree. He came off two losses to Silva and that's enough to knock anyone's confidence.

Rampage told the fans to stop booing him and did one of his normal great promos. This is what happens when you let a black man in the UFC :D
Nobody understood a word Chuck said but it something down the lines of him saying it was a fair KO and he'll be back.
Dan Henderson came into the Octagon and Rampage started rubbing and kissing one of his Pride belts and saying he was the better champion and telling Henderson to smile and then take his false teeth out and smile. Also said although they are friends, he'll fight his friends for money and he started ribbing on Kevin James saying he had a big crib and he wants one too. :D

Rampage is going to be a very charismatic champ, but he wont be one for long. He happens to have the right attributes to take it to Chuck Liddel, but Im affraid thats it. He has Chucks number, but He does not match up well with other fighters that are going to be in contention for his title. Henderson might be a little small for him, therefore the fighting match up might not matter, but in the case of fighters like wanderlei silva, hes been knocked out without question twice. Guys that come after Rampage like Wanderlei did will pose a huge problem for him.
Liddel just sits back and is a counter puncher. The best way to defeat an opponent that is defensive and relys on countering in any combat sport like wrestling or mma, is to go right after them and wear them out with a relentless attack. Now Chuck did get caught this fight but in the first one that was not the case. It can be seen in the first and third fight with Randy. Randy was coming strait at him except randy sliped and Chuck made him pay for it.
I thought (and still think) that if Tito Ortiz tries dirty boxing in the clinch or throw jabs before trying leg take downs that he'd have Chuck's number too. That 3rd fight is definately gonna happen now.

I agree about tito too.... its just that too much respect is given to liddel and no one comes after him because theyre affraid of his punch.
Tito looked like he was scared of Chuck's power and he shouldn't be because he can actually take a punch. Just needs more confidence. I don't think Rampage has a better chin than Ortiz but he went in there with Chuck thinking he was the fucking God of MMA and rightfully so. That worked for him.

Tito has too many distractions around him now too. Wen he was at his best he was working as hard as he could with the little he had around him. The fighting was his life and he had only a couple people around him. Now hes running around with a pornstar girlfriend, has a ton of money and has made himself a public figure. He just needs to go back to his roots a little bit and he'll be back to where he was.
Rampage winning this fight will put UFC officially into main stream sports. Its already starting. ESPN just interviewed him on TV. I've seen highlights of the fight atleast 10 times since it happend. The guy is perfect to market this sport around. He's charasmatic, he's a champion. Liddel couldnt be marketed the way mainstream media liked to market sports stars. Rampage is that guy.
I say in about 6 months you'll start seeing UFC/ MMA recap shows similar to Baseballl Tonight and the NFL and NBA shows. UFC was big, but its about to get bigger cause they have someone in the best division in MMA that they can market.
I love Rampage. I love to hear the guy talk. He's sick on the mic and in the ring. I love how he stared Chuck down before that fight in the ring. It was a crazy black man look.

lol Chucky Cheese went down like a sack of potatoes. oh that was sweet. Saw it this morning.
From the post UFC 71 press conference...
Interviewer: How did you beat Chuck?
Rampage: What's wrong? Where you looking at your shoes or something?
End the answer with... "anything else you wanna know? Next time watch the fight".
How can anyone not love this man?

ABSOLUTLY LOVED THIS PPV
As someone who's gotten like the last 20 UFC PPVs, this one was the best I've ever seen..
RAM MOTHERFUCKING PAGE
I love Liddell, but wanted Jackson to win because as RP said, I knew it'd be good for the sport as a whole.. Why was Joe Rogan making it out like Liddell was gonna retire?? Just because he's 38?? Come one, he's been (next to Fedor) like the most dominant MMA fighter for the past 4 years.. Sure it sucks that he lost but to think he'll walk away now is retarded..
AWESOME PPV
p.s. the Sports Illistrated story was really really good.. They (along with ESPN) seem to be solidly behind MMA in general with UFC being the flagship promotion.. Everyone should try to get a copy of this SI though because it gave me alot of back story behind the "dark times" of UFC and how Dana White helped bring it to the forefront.. I'm sure people like Rob already knew this but it was good to hear how it went from what I remember watching in 7th grade, 600lbs behemoths getting kicked in the balls by some guy with a mullet wearing a gi, to the tenichal sport we see today.. Good stuff.. Take THAT, Bill O'Reilly!!

Oh yeah, and I am happy about Dangerous Dan Henderson coming to UFC.. And atleast now that they own Pride, we know it's not another Wanderlei Silva marketing ploy..

Liddel will be back.
Im happy too with ESPN and SI's new support in the sport, but I have seen many instances like on PTI where the two guys both said that UFC sells out arenas like WWE sells out arenas. So I dunno. There is definatly some grown that needs to be covered.
Wanderlei honestly wasnt a ploy to start with, he honestly wanted to fight chuck, but Pride couldnt come to terms with UFC, and it ended up turning into that.
The only thing that I didnt like about the ppv was that Liddel and Rampage's fight was over too fast and out of nowhere. The finish was good for the business because it was stunning, and it was good for chuck because he could say "he got caught." but I would have liked to see rampage take the belt without any questions by beating him like he did the first time instead of the way he did this time.

Silva might have wanted to fight Liddell, but him being there at UFC 66 (Liddell/Ortiz II) with a PRIDE FC shirt on was a marketing ploy by Pride.. It was like a month before their first American PPV and they used the biggest platform in the US for MMA to promote themselves under the guise of a fight that was never going to happen..
Knocking Liddell out in under 2 minutes didn't leave any questions on my mind.. Sure I wished it had gone to like the 4th, but this ending was much better than if it had gone to a decision..

I didnt mean by decision... i meant by Rampage taking him down and beating the fuck out him, basically beating him the same way he did the first time.

KO by punches if you will

If you watch the replay, Chuck was completly knocked out after the first punch once he hit the ground.. If Big Jon hadn't stopped it, Rampage was going to break his face..
I liked it..
Can anyone get me a copy of SI? I've been looking for it everywhere here with no luck. I'll paypal the cash a-sap.

I just watched the fight wow what a shocker eh? I like most, am glad Rampage won, it will be great for the sport. Although its a crying shame Chuck lost so quickly. I haven't watched the rest of the show yet but I cant wait!

I must admit I'm not normally a fan of UFC, recently Bravo have been showing unleashed every night and it's got me hooked, that was a decent first PPV for me and I officially love that Armanian guy, Parsyan (sp?) fucking awesome judo shit in there.
