RVD Done With WWE After One Night Stand; New Details
Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter
As things currently stand, Rob Van Dam will be finished with WWE after the One Night Stand pay-per-view on June 3rd in Jacksonville, Florida. While WWE Vice President of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis was told to re-sign RVD and made an effort to do so, negotiations have ended, and RVD will be leaving the company.
Bad blood has brewing between Laurinaitis and RVD since Laurinaitis was going over the new company policy that talent could not leave the arena on TV days due to the fact that Sylvan Grenier got a speeding ticket after rushing back to the arena after leaving to go to the gym. During the meeting, RVD sarcastically asked the question if they could go to the gym in the morning before the shows.
Perhaps the breaking point in Van Dam’s relationship with WWE occurred after he learned of the re-forming of ECW and asked to get off of the RAW brand to head the resurrection of ECW and what really happened after that. Also, RVD had asked for time off after signing, citing how WWE offered Big Show a deal where he’d be paid for merchandising rights without having to work for a year. People within WWE felt that to be a dangerous precedent and refused to add that stipulation to his contract.
RVD felt that WWE had limited what he can do in the ring and refused to push him in comparison to Bobby Lashley, when Van Dam felt like he was over way more than Lashley. While RVD’s WWE finale will be before his contract actually expires, he’ll be paid until the end of his contract, but will be off of television to prevent him from working with TNA fresh off his stint with WWE.
At this point RVD is looking at working a limited schedule and make some money from special appearances and autograph signings. RVD also wants to take some time to spend with his wife, whom he has said to love to death, and hates being away from.

ROH is running a show in Detroit come September....
I could see ROH bringing him in for some shows... Especially the Japan shows... And having him in Detroit makes sense...
If the idiot actually asked to go from raw to ecw then he should know he's not gonna get a brilliant contract. Anyway, i hope to see him in tna, he'd be more suited to it and would have some good matches with aj styles

So you're on the Paris Hilton train then; it's okay to do something against the law/rules if someone else does it? Talk to me when either of those things actually does happen. The man was getting pushed at the top of the newest and hottest product WWE had, and he decided to break the law, and he got caught, and to top it all off he did it at a time when WWE was really hyping their "wellness policy" as something solid and enforced. He killed his own push, and I'm sick of everyone acting like he got screwed Montreal-style.
I'm not sure whether he owns it or not. I've heard that when WWE asked talent if they wanted to own their trademark for whatever reason, Rob put his hand up, but I'm looking at the US P&TO website and it says the registrant is WWE.

Whatever, Rob Van Dam is not as good as the IWC makes him out to be. Oh, WWE won't let him work superstiff and bust people open in every god damn match, they are holding him down. Oh, WWE won't let him smoke pot and promote a drug culture, they are holding him down. Oh, WWE made RVD a dual World Champion and were pushing him to the moon and looking to do it for a long time, the are holding him down.
Seriously, WWE can lose RVD and make a new guy to take his place. WWE is still the only promotion to make stars.

its a shame to see him go.
he really was one of the 1st people to really catch my attention when i rejoined the wrestling community in 2002ish.
But since Invasion and his "feud" with HHH, he really hasn't done a thing to impress me. i did like when he, chris masters, carlito, ric flair and shelton B were all in the midcard chasing the intercontinental title tho but after that I didn't care much for him.
tbh, i really don't see van dam as the face of ECW and never did. Initially i saw the face of ECW as being Angle and now its clearly Punk.
Anyway, RVD screwed RVD, no two ways about it
Finally I can stop watching ECW...but then again...I might have to start watching TNA...again :shifty:

Did I say he "only" appealed to those people? No. Those are the people he appeals to most, the people that make his pops more noticable than, say, Scotty Too Hotty. The Worm gets a pretty big reaction too, you know. I've been sick of this Van Dam cocksucking ever since the Invasion. He's gotten more than he deserved from WWE as far as I'm concerned, especially when I would have fired his useless ass after the arrest business.

Well, I'm glad you clarified your point because in your original statement you just happened to fail to mention that RVD is MAD over with casual wrestling fans all around the world.
While you never said 'only' you did insinuate that the only people who enjoy RVD are ECW fans and potheads by ommiting any mention of the other millions of people around the world who cheer for RVD.
Theo Dious
05-10-2007, 03:33 PM
RVD os MAD over because of exposure and a certain amount of consistency (until his absence that ended a year and a half ago, he had been pretty much constant since 2001.) Put anyone out there that long as a face, and as long as they aren't abysmally bad at what they do, they'll get equal reaction. And crowd reaction does not make a useful wrestler. Ron Simmons gets mad crowd reaction saying "damn," does that mean the entire show should be built around that? Van Dam is a solid midcarder with a good and useful following, but there are a dozen guys on the roster that get equally good reactions that DON'T get arrested for smoking pot in the middle of their pushes.
Sigh.
He was being pushed JUST FUCKING FINE until he GOT HIMSELF ARRESTED and EMBARRASSED THE GOD DAMN COMPANY!!!
Embarrassed the company? It barely made internet news and did nothing to affect the share price. Randy Orton has done worse time and time again and I wouldn't even say he embarrassed the company. Only himself.
And RVD should have kept his spot purely because he protected Sabu's gimmick to the cop and did all the talking for him :D

Ok, definitely an overstatement, but still, at a time when WWE was trying to put over their wellness policy, he may as well have been seen wiping his ass with a copy of it.
And RVD should have kept his spot purely because he protected Sabu's gimmick to the cop and did all the talking for him :D

I do hate to see him go, and hope something better happens in the future for him, even if I don't really want to see him in TNA. ROH sounds good though.
But like I've said before, going back to his arrest. Even though people debate what should have happened to him, my say is that he got caught doing something that everyone knew he did. I'm not saying he's innocent, but he just shouldn't have been doing it at that time. He did mess up his push by getting caught, but I still think that he shouldn't have gotten in as much trouble as he did.

http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=lb1mq.2.1I'm not seeing any reason he work under the name, only that merchandise would be out of the question. As for Christian he was allowed to use the name due to the fact he worked under the name BEFORE WWE. Which would be the case if Van Dam hadn't given away the legal rights to it.
Again, T-shirts and what not are out of the question. But I didn't see anything that would qualify that he couldn't work under the name.
Can you offer any clarity?

The United States Patent and Trademark Office lists Rob Stantiwitz or however he spells his last name as a party to WWE's trademarks. Which means that he had to have been on board with it.
It also gives his name as a registered trademark for almost any application you can name.

Pretty stupid of Rob Van Dam to give away his name to the WWE and then decide that he is going to leave the WWE.

RVD : RVD IS COMIN TO TNA! GET REDDY TO CHANT R-V-D!
WWE : Uh no Rob. We trademarked your name. You can't use RVD, Rob Van Damn or any variation of it. Remember?
*RVD starts to remember*

RVD is not very bright, period. I love the guy and all, but come on, he's dumber'n a fucking post sometimes.
I'd rather not watch Lynn/Van Dam again. I'd rather watch RVD blow himself for forty minutes.
Oh wait.
rvd had problems with the wwe before the pot bust like when he would not go on the uso tour with the wwe and he was a stiff worker. rvd screwed up 2 years ago when he signed another deal with the wwe.

HHH could go to TNA and still no one would care. The ratings for WWE would stay virtually the same and so would those of TNA. TNA might get a week (or two) spike, but that's it.

He's fucked then. And not in a good way.
He can get away with "Robbie V", or even "Rob V", which wouldn't be horrible. Better than "Brother Ray/D-Von/Runt".

Why not just Rob Van Damme...like Jean-Claude Van Damme since that's where he got the name from anyway.

Rob Van Dam fucked up his push, yes, but no one has ever accused him of anything otherwise. I don't see where this drug incident flaming of Van Dam is coming from. I don't see anyone arguing that he didn't fuck up his push, only that he should have gotten it earlier, and the WWE did their best to hold up and tame down RVD.
I'm not the biggest fan of him, but I wish the guy well, as he genuinely has an aura about him that draws regular fans in. He's one of those guys that's just easy to like, recognise and get behind. TNA is foolish if they don't come up with an offer. Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn for the TNA X-Division Championship would kick ass.
Some people have suggested Ring of Honor, and I think that is certainly a possibility for Van Dam, too. He's not the most technical guy in the world, but I'm sure he's got enough sense to stick to his strengths, and work great matches based on what he does have going for him.
I'd like to throw Japan out there. I'm pretty sure they'd love the guy. He's a big star in America, he wears bright costumes, he's pretty iconic, and he has the martial arts thing going on. The more successful gaijin in Japan at the moment are Giant Bernard, Bison Smith, Buchanan and D'Lo Brown. Rob Van Dam could easily become Western culture's top prospect over there.

Um...what? The first post is the article that RVD would be leaving, which tries to leave out bias. Dave's post just expressed joy at the prospect of an RVD vs. Jerry Lynn match.

It came from me snapping after reading yet another spiel about how "RVD never got his ME push" and "ECW was supposed to center on RVD and it didn't," when he GOT his push, and ECW WAS centered on him, until HE fucked it up. Six years of not getting the fanboy-jaculation over him finally led to me snapping when I read that and realized that the fact that he threw away what was handed to him will never be acknowledged by some of these idiots.

Oh OK. That's fair enough. He did get his push to the main event, you're correct.
I think what most people are bitter about is that it took them so long to give it to him. Some people will argue that RVD was the most over guy during the Invasion angle, and that the fans were craving a World Title win for him. If so, then the WWE were only five years late.
