View Full Version : This is where I stand (How I would book Raw/SD/ECW)

Since WWE bought WCW and recruited ECW's top wrestlers they have had the best roster they or any promotion in the history of pro wrestling has ever had. I don't just mean WHEN they bought WCW but I believe they have had the best roster consistently since the buy out. However, it must be a tough job to run a multi-multi-million dollar company. WWE does a lot of things right, we can't expect them to make everybody happy, but at the same time they ignore talent that could take them to unseen places. And thats where im coming in at. This is a general way I would book WWE from 2007 forward...

I'll start with my favorite brand, Smackdown! Smackdown! consistently has the potential to surpass Raw but it rarely does because of really piss poor booking. If I were in charge Smackdown! would be the WRESTLING brand, almost directed towards the internet community. I would focus a big part of the show on the undercard titles... this is the point where I am forgetting a bout punctuation.

US Title
This title would be seen as the 2nd largest on the brand not an undercard title. It would be the main event of Smackdown! much more than a World Heavyweight Title match would be. The main contenters in the US Title picture would be - Matt Hardy, Finlay, Kane, Mark Henry, MVP, Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton, and Christ Benoit.

With these guys in a consistant main event spot it would give a lot of credability to the title thus making the World Heavyweight Title much more important to see on PPV, so people would pay to see that.

WWE Tag Team Titles

This would be the undercard title, think more along the lines of the WCW TV Title. This would be the 1hr main event and sometimes the main event of Smackdown! if the match were big enough. The contenders are pretty much the same as they are now... London and Kendrick, Duce and Domino, Regal/Taylor, I'd also pair up Noble and Helms, Scotty 2 Hotty and Funaki, as well as Finlay/Hornswoggle, and Boogeyman and Mini Boogey.

WWE Cruiserweight Title

I would really try to make this title important, have it main event some TV shows maybe once a month. The roster would include, Chavo, Shannon More, London, Kendrick, Miz, Noble, Helms, Colt Cabana, I would also hire a few popular indy guys as well.

World Heavyweight Title

This could be a gold mine. First of all Booker T would be the face of Smackdown! Push him when he comes back like WCW did, make him cool like the Rock. I would rarley defend the title on free TV and rarely do stupid tag team matches for the main event. I would use these guys in a lot of angles and promos on Smackdown! to help sell the PPV as opposed to matches. Roster: Booker T, Undertaker, Kennedy, Edge, Batista, and Shawn Michaels. I could see some great matches there, Virtually all combinations of these wrestlers could last over a year and a half if done well.

ECW

ECW could be the alternative to Raw and Smackdown! all you have to do is book it differently. Of course with Vince and Steph in power this won't ever happen. But if I were in power every match would be Extreme rules and there would basically just be a lot more violence on the show. It would be seen as a dangerous show to be on, and totally unpredictable every time you tune in.
I like the guys they are pushing however I would push RVD to the moon as a face then do a heel turn on CM Punk and have a year long feud the likes of Bret and Shawn, Vince and Austin, Hogan and Sting... etc... I have no problem with the ECW title being defended on free TV because they show should be very unpredictable like it wasn't scripted at all. It shouldnt feel like there is a greater power booking the matches and setting them up days before hand.

Ill do Raw later I gtg.

I love arm chair bookers. They don't have to worry about egos or contracts.

I grew tried to WWE 4 years ago, and just became a casual fan about 10 months ago, and Once HBK is gone, and most likely before that I will grow of wrestling and limit myself to an hour every week on Thursday nights.

I like your idea for the US Title. I think the belt has enough history to get to headline some shows, and have main eventers want to chase after it. The World Heavyweight Title idea is good, too. Theoretically, you could make it like one of the big titles in Japan, where defences are only done on big shows, so they seem more important when they happen.

I guess there's not much one can do with the WWE Tag Team Championship. As it stands right now, I personally would add the Ring of Honor approach to tag team booking, though: tag team specialists can topple two singles guys thrown together. Right now, if you saw Paul London & Brian Kendrick face Batista & Mr. Kennedy, can you really see Batista & Mr. Kennedy losing cleanly? It should go down like that, with the commentators putting tag team wrestling over as its own style, with its own science. William Regal & Dave Taylor should obliterate The Boogeyman in their tag team matches. I can understand why Kane would be OK hanging with them, though, as he has some tag team experience. A heel isolation of Boogeyman followed by him tagging in Kane, who cleans house, would actually make a lot of sense.

Back when Rey Mysterio was World Heavyweight Champion and Gregory Helms was WWE Cruiserweight Champion, I was hoping they'd work a program between the two, with Helms claiming that the WWE Cruiserweight Title makes him the highest ranked man 225lbs or under in World Wrestling Entertainment, including Rey Mysterio. A 2/3 Falls Match or Best of Seven Series between the two would have told a great story. But yeah, I'd have the Cruiserweight Champion claim (rightfully) to being the top wrestler under 225lbs in the world. That includes the Women's Champion, and any other cruiserweights wearing other gold.

If Rey Mysterio won the WWE United States Title under a perfect regime, the Cruiserweight Champion wouldn't challenge him for the US Title; Mysterio would challenge the Cruiserweight Champion for that title.

I agree in theory with ECW. RVD is unfortunately pretty much a lock to be leaving, though. Not sure how I feel about the Extreme Rules thing. I do think it is time for ECW to grow. Maybe something like "relaxed rules?" I notice guys in ECW tend to get disqualified, or matches stopped, for the lamest reasons. This seems to be WWE overcompensating to explain the changes to ECW. Don't do that.

Maybe if they made rope-assisted moves (like the Tarantula) legal, and generally allowed weapon use? Disqualifications should be reserved for pushing officials (kind of a cheap way of ending matches and protecting guys, but I can see them pulling a "they're making the calls regarding your health in a dangerous environment, so respect them" angle with referees) and outside interference. Actually, come to think of it, a simple sweeping rule like "Competitors can do to each other whatever they want, as long as they don't drag anyone else into to," would be handy.

Good ideas overall, man. :y:

call me nuts:shifty: but i just don't see a need for this cruiser weight shit. We could benefit from some of the top CW's moving to the US scene, and using the rest to flesh out the tag team scene. CW's definitely have their own style but all of that watered down lucha crap bores me. it would be a better fit in the tag division.........

Are you nuts?! Of course we need a Cruiserweight Belt, without that, WWE will have no way of telling the fans who the jobber of the month is.

I'm actually warming up to the idea of the WWE getting rid of a cruiserweight division. I mean, Paul London & Brian Kendrick, two guys who would compete there, are in the tag division. Chavo Guerrero & Gregory Helms have a bit of a tag thing going on, plus both have tried to step up to the US Title scene in the past.

I think having Chavo Guerrero unify the Cruiserweight Title with the World Heavyweight Championship (I think it would be more dignified then losing it to the United States Champion) when someone like Rey Mysterio holds the belt (and I do believe he will get it again) could be a good idea.
