View Full Version : So assuming Cena stays babyface through Survivor Series...

He'll be a babyface for over 4 straight years which would be a longer run than both Stone Cold and The Rock had in their heyday.

On top of that I decided to compare length of their combined World Title reigns.

Stone Cold: approx. 18 months as World Champion (3/98-12/01 -6 reigns-)
The Rock: approx. 11 months as World Champion (11/98-8/02 -7 reigns-)
John Cena: approx. 21 months as World Champion (4/05-present -3 reigns-)

Maybe because I'm up at 8 am on a Sunday morning and I have nothing better to do, but it dawned on me that Cena has gotten a bigger push so to speak than two of the top three drawing wrestlers in history. And ironically the only guy that can topple Cena in those categories is Hulk Hogan (well unless you wanna grasp straws and throw in Sammartino as well).

Yeah, it's really quite sad. The WWE is still trying to push him as the "next" as well. You'd think it would have happened by now if it were meant to.

Now although Stone Cold was out of in-ring action for about a year from late 99 - late 00, he still made sporadic appearances, like wise when Rock was making movies.

Rocky only got a bunch of 1 month reigns and Stone Cold only got reigns that lasted only a few months. Hell I think his heel title run last longer than any of his babyface runs. Kind of crazy when they are two of the top money makers in wrestling history yet Cena topples them both after only two years and less reigns.

The Rock nor Stone Cold were never booed during their runs as faces, and definitly not loud enough for you to hear it.

He is the "next" what the fuck are you talking about? Every show I have been to he gets reactions just like Rock or Austin used to get. Stop denying the truth, people love him.

lol, Cena needs to turn heel and get his shit together.

He was great back when he was a heel.

If Cena is champion at Survivor Series, look for Montreal Screwjob reenactment part 242.

Personally, I think Cena needs to get a severe injury and be out for a year. (It worked for Triple H.)

Except Triple H was hugely over before he got hurt...

The only time I remember the Rock being booed as a face (other than his match against Hogan which he got some big ass pops anc cheers too )was when he faced RVD on Raw during the Invasion days in October. I was there and a lot of the arena was booing Rock and cheering RVD. It was crazy because the Rock was never booed. I don't know how it came out on tv though.

The Rock/Hogan match was about 60/40 for Hogan, And I dont remember the RVD/Rock match but is was VERY RARE in any case, where as Cena is a common thing.

And in the cases the Rock was booed, it was universally because the other guy was a nostalgic fave or mega over.

Cena gets booed fairly regularly.

Rock and Austin were both starting to get major cheers from the crowd when they technically were still heels.

Rock got some boos from time to time, but nothing like what Cena gets.

Loved the Rock winning the title and going to the Corperation. Brilliant. People were getting behind him and he was super-over...then BOOM, heel turn. Perfect turn imo.

Yeah, when the fans cheer Carlito and Chris Masters over you, there are problems.

I watched Cena Vs Benoit from Smackdown a few years ago when Cena was heel.

2 things, he seems smaller back then and he knew how to carry a basic heel match.

If you re-watch HBK/Cena II from Raw, he did the same sort of thing, he was carrying most of the match and playing the part of a heel and did well with it.

Working face can be tougher, it's all down the selling and getting the sympathy, watching his selling now compared to when he was a heel, there's very little difference. It's hard to explain, HBK knows how to sell very well and gets the sympathy heat for it.

Longest baby-face run since...Smokey "Big Heart" McGee from the South-Western Championship Wrasslin' era.

the important figure is the decibel level. wwe does not care which noise fans choose to make, so long as they pay to make it and make it loud.

I wonder how long Daniel Bryan's face momentum will last? Will people get sick of him at the top?

Who's been a face longer Rey or UnderTaker?

Was Rey ever a heel in WCW? I feel like when he was part of The Filthy Animals they were heels for a brief period.

Think Rey since he joined the WWE around the same time Taker was in the middle of his heel American Badass character.

He was heel for a couple of months during the Kidman / Hogan feud.

The Rock was booed pretty much throughout his whole run with the title in 2002. It's what prompted him to come back as his heel Hollywood persona.

The Undertaker's heel run ended around the start of July when he showed Jeff Hardy respect for his outing in that Ladder Match for the Undisputed Championship. Rey Mysterio debuted at the end of July. So Taker has a bit less than a month on Rey Rey.

Has RVD turned heel at all since he joined WWE?

He should. Heel RVD in ECW was a phenomenal asshole. Would give me a reason to care about RVD.

Only during the invasion angle I think.

Heel RVD that is still RVD in the ring would be pretty amazing. Back around Money in the Bank I wanted to see RVD win the briefcase and cash in on Cena, after Brock Lesnar attacks CM Punk and Daniel Bryan as they fight for the briefcase. This would have set up Punk vs. Lesnar for SummerSlam and RVD vs. Cena, with the question being "Is RVD a Paul Heyman Guy?"

Daniel Bryan would have become World Heavyweight Champion at SummerSlam in my perfect world. Don't get me wrong -- I am happy he is now an official two-time WWE Champion, but I think he would have made people really care about a second World Heavyweight Title win too.
