What is, in your opinion, the most overbooked match in history and why?

For me, I'd have to say that it was a WCW battle royal on the Thunder right before Slamboree. It all started with the 11 members of the New Blood in the ring trying to justify why they lost all their previous matches that night. The 11 members of the Millionaire's Club comes out and it's booked that all 22 guys will be involved in a battle royal with the winner getting a WCW Title shot at the Great American Bash.

So the match starts. It's your average fast-paced clusterf</>uck for a good while. Then the rest of the heel WCW roster decided to join in the match, making there a good 40 people in the ring. Then the Misfits of Action (sans Hugh Morrus since he was already in the match) jumped the crowd barrier and got involved. Even the women of WCW decided to get involved. Then I believe Hacksaw Jim Duggan came out, provided the Millionaire's Club with a 2 x 4, and then leaves.

Afterwards things settle down up until when there's about 10 guys left in the ring, 7 New Blood guys and 3 Millionaire's Club guys. The Millionaire's Club is getting their asses kicked, when suddenly backstage we see a limo pull up and we see someone walking to the ring (we only see their feet). It turns out to be Macho Man Randy Savage, who rushes out and eliminates 4 of the New Blood guys, evening the playing field.

Fast forward to when only Hogan, Kidman, Douglas, and Flair are left in the match. DDP and Jarrett have been on the outside brawling for a good 5 minutes. Think there have been enough run-ins by this point? Well you thought wrong, as Bret Hart (with a steel chair) walks down. He clobbers Hogan with the chair from behind, allowing Hogan to slide under the ropes so he could still be declared eliminated (by this point I think him taking the bump over the top rope would be impossible). Hart leaves and Kidman gets eliminated by Hogan on the outside, and they continue to brawl.

Russo rushes in and tries to hit Flair with a bat, but misses and nails Douglas with it. Russo gets chased off and Flair CLOBBERS Douglas with the bat and Douglas goes flying over the top, giving Flair the victory. It doesn't stop there though. Hogan tries to suplex Kidman through the announce table but Bischoff takes out Hogan's leg with a baseball bat and Kidman ends up hitting a body press through the table. Bischoff administers a 3 count, symbolic of their upcoming PPV match as Savage chases off Kidman and Bischoff. Meanwhile, DDP and Jarrett are fighting on the scaffolding (and DDP falls through the stage, but the dumbass camera crew never caught this on tape).

And even after ALL the overbooked-ness of this match, Flair never got his title shot.

LOL, I remember this match. I have the last couple of minutes on tape somewhere.

Rock Bottom

The Rock vs. Triple H at Backlash (Think it was '01?)

LOL, it was The Rock vs. Triple H. Triple H comes out with Vince, Shane, and Stephanie. Shane is the guest referee. Triple H is champ. Vince comes out and says, "The program you all recieved says, 'Card subject to change," and that Steve Austin "will not be here tonight."

So the match starts. Rock and Triple H are going at it, seems pretty even. Triple H starts getting the better of The Rock, but the Rock always seems to counter when Triple H gets momentum. So Triple H goes for a pin-fall, and Shane fast counts. Onetwokickout by Rocky.

Rock starts slapping Triple H around a little bit, and the match slows down with fatigue. Trips hits his knee to face move (not the high-knee, but the other). Fast count again, onetwokickout. (The match continued with a bunch of fast counts and The Rock still kicking out.)

Triple H and Rock clothesline each other and stay down for a long time. Shane is trying to revive Triple H while they are down, and begins the ten count. Both men get to their feet and soon, The Rock stats kicking Triple H's ass on the outside of the ring.

Triple H gets mad and Shane can't believe The Rock is kicking out. Rock plants Triple H with a DDT and Shane refuses to count. So The Rock starts kicking Shane's ass, and smacks him out of the ring. Triple H comes from behind and sends The Rock to the outside as well.

Triple H and Shane start clearing the monitors off the Spanish announce table, and Triple H beats up on him for a while, then gets Rock on the table and sets up the predigree, but The Rock low blows Triple H and sets up for The Rock Bottom. Shane tries to intervene, but then gets pulled into The Rock Bottom, and it's a double Rock Bottom through the table!

Vince was shocked. After a few moments, The Rock gets to his feet before the two he planted through the table, and Triple H begins to stir. Rock rolls Triple H into the ring. Triple H is crawling and cowering in the corner, but Vince comes and sneaks up on The Rock from behind. Vince hits The Rock, but Rock shrugs off the blow and chases Vince into the other corner.

Just when he has a hold of McMahon, Triple H comes from behind with a low blow. Triple H hits the pedigree on The Rock, and both men are down and hurt, but Triple H is stirring. Vince, seeing Shane is onconscious from the Rock Bottom through the table (the one in which Triple H landed on top of him), begins to panic and wave out more referees.

Patterson and Brisco (McMahon's stooges at the time) run out and count. One, two, kick out by The Rock. Brisco and Patterson begin to stomp on The Rock, and then The Rock for the next three minutes or so, is getting his ass kicked by Triple H, McMahon and the stooges. (4 on 1.)

Rock takes some stiff punches, a chairshot, and some more punishment. Triple H sets up for another Pedigree, when Austin's music hits and he comes out with a steel chair and apparently some sort of purpose to rescue The Rock from bad booking. He is met on the ramp by Triple H. Austin kicks Triple H in the gut and slams the chair over his head.

Pat Patterson meets him as well, only to be kicked in the gut and have a chair blasted across his face like Triple H before him. Austin turns around, with eyes in the back of his head, and nails Gerald Brsico in the head with the chair also.

In the meantime, Vince has revived Shane, and Vince and Shane are in the ring, and Shane is up. Austin whacks Shane in the back of the head with the chair, and in the ring now are an unconscious Rock, Shane, and a conscious Rattlesnake and Vince. That is until Austin whacks VINCE in the head with a chair, leaving EVERYONE laid out, and Austin lays atop Vince and begins to taunt him while bobbling his head from side to side like he just got tazed.

Triple H is back in the ring and tries to hit Austin from behind with another steel chair, but Austin feels an imbalance in the oxygen level of his current vicinity (and realizes that large nostrils are nearby) and turns around, plants his boot in Triple H's gut and hits him with another chair shot. Austin leaves the ring.

Linda McMahon comes out with Earl Hebner as Austin is leaving, and Stephanie gets in Linda's face before she gets to the thing. Linda pushes Stephanie like a five year old would push a peer, and Stephanie hits the ground on her ass and starts crying (but she is showing some leg.)

Triple H and Rock are stirring, but Triple H is to his feet first, and he still has a steel chair. He charges Rock with the chair, but The Rock counters with a spinebuster. Rock calls for the Peoples' Elbow and hits it! Everyone is down! Linda calls Hebner into the ring! Hebner takes about 5 seconds getting into position, then counts nice and slow.

1.

2.

3.

The arena about exploded (I was there by the way, and the raw the night after) and we went apeshit. It was deafening. The Rock was celebrating his victory in the ring, but then Austin's music hit. Austin and The Rock share beers together in the middle of the ring.

LOL...

All that for "The Rock vs. Triple H."

Dude Love vs. Steve Austin from Over the Edge was really overbooked.

Vince as the ref.

Patterson as the ring announcer.

Brisco as the timekeeper.

Undertaker enforcing.

Going from normal match to no countouts to no DQ to falls count anywhere.

Vince getting KO'd resulting in Patterson trying to make the count and getting chokeslammed through the table.

Brisco trying the same.

Austin making the count with Vince's own hand.

Still a great match.

Keep in mind, this was back in an era when HHH still valued the business over his own selfish ass.

This is from 2000.

The New Blood was lead by Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff. If I remember correctly it had members such as Jarrett, Bagwell, Douglas, Awesome, Candido, The Cat, Vampiro, Kidman, Stasiak, The Wall, and Steiner.

The Millionaire's Club were the enemies of the New Blood. It was mostly a bunch of washed up hasbeens, although not entirely. The members included Flair, Hogan, DDP, Sting, and Luger. Plus guys such as Kanyon, Hennig, Kronik, Hugh Morrus, and Horace Hogan also aided the Millionaire's Club.

Right so Flair wins and didn't get a title shot? So what the hell was the match all bout. It must have been confusing being a fan of WCW.

Mankind vs. The Big Show in a Boiler Room Brawl Match at Backlash 1999 (I think).

The glass and blood were both fake, and the whole match was set up and planned out like a movie scene.

Still a great match though.
