So the other morning I hopped on my xbox to discover that I was getting the Red Ring of Death...I believe its because I was watching DVD's on the damn thing. I have such bad luck with systems.

Anyways I told a friend about it and apparently he had the same thing...he sent his console back and recieved it back within about 4 days ( I think this was when they sent you a refurbished one).

Anyways...has anyone on here gotten the Red Ring of Death yet???

No problems here. Hell, I don't even know what causes it.

I did once and all I did was tighten the connections and it fixed it.

I got it a month ago. Luckily, since I bought my 360 last August for Dead Rising, it was still in warranty, and they sent me a refurbished one.

There's a trick you can do by wrapping the 360 in towels, turning it on for a bit and letting it run. I don't know the specifics, but G4 covered it, and apparently a lot of people on GameFAQs are vouching for it being a good, albeit temporary, fix.

I intend to get an Elite very soon though, just for the hell of it.

I wish they would hurry up on Resident Evil 5.

I got the red ring. I was playing Ultimate Alliance and it froze up at the first scene. Turned it off, turned it back on, red ring. I called up tech support and sent it out. Got it back really quick.

The reason I got it was probably because I got mine in a tight space in my entertainment center and it wasn't getting enough air. I guess it got too hot to handle. Other than that, I can't think of anything else.

Do you have to have the original box and recipt and shit? Because I lost all that when I moved.

Also, it fell off of my desk once and the face broke a little. Still works good tho. But I doubt if they'll replace it if it ever fucks up.

I believe you have to have the reciept.....I havnt received my box yet to send it in but I have heard from a few people now that you do get it back rather quick.

I wonder if after they fix it if the warranty is extended for another month or year or something...because that would suck if it broke again...

I got it once but discovered it was because the already flimsy power cable came unplugged. Haven't had a problem since then.

I've had my 360 since August and fortunately have yet to experience the red ring of death. It occasionally freezes during Madden or MLB2k7 (in that game I can't get to the fucking playoffs because it freezes when I enter October), but that's more of a problem with the game, not the console.

I got one on my original xbox and it meant that the harddrive was corrupted

Seems like a lot of people have problems with their 360s. I want to get one eventually, but don't want to have to deal with all the damn problems.

There really isn't, in fact....

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/02/european-commisioner-ms-has-a-week-to-explain-xbox-360-scratchi/

European Commissioner for Consumers Meglena Kuneva wants to get to the bottom of the Xbox 360 scratching disc issue and she wants answers from Microsoft within one week. In a visit to The Netherlands yesterday, Kuneva confirmed that she had written to Microsoft requesting information on how they plan on resolving the issues there and "whether the same problem has occurred on other markets," according to a newsbrief on the ECC website (http://ec.europa.eu/commission_barroso/kuneva/news_en.htm).

The inquiry was prompted by a report from Dutch TV show Kassa (http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?lp=nl_en&url=http%3A%2F%2Fkassa.vara.nl%2Fportal%3F_scr%3Dnieuws_artikel%26no%3D3412996%26nodes%3Dall) that concluded (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/16/scratch-that-the-xbox-360-might-damage-discs-after-all/) that certain models of Xbox 360 were indeed the cause of the disc scratching.

In a (mostly English) radio interview, Kuneva said that "Within one week i expect to receive an answer ... and then we will draw the plan on how we could proceed further." She also said that although she does not have the power to order a recall, she'll be "more than happy to act if I have legal ground." (Listen to streaming .wma (http://mms//cachemedia.omroep.nl/bongo05/0/radio1/vara/radiokassa/20070601-11.wma); interview starts around 2:53.)

Given the anecdotal evidence (http://www.joystiq.com/2005/12/07/ring-of-disc-death-xbox-360-annoyance-008/) we have, the disc scratching problem has certainly come up in other markets. It'll be interesting to see what Microsoft reveals on the matter over the next week.

Wii is having a DRE problem. Nowhere near as bad as the others, though.

I've had two die on me.
The first one I can forgive because it was a pre-launch unit, from that Mountain Dew contest, and it broke within a day.
The second one I got in January, and it failed in February, and took Gears of War with it.

PS3 is alot more reliable than the 360, but PS3 sucks so get a 360 :D

I've had the 360 red rings of death, fixed it myself. The problem is the cooling in the 360 is rubbish, so the video chip conntection with the motherboard breaks when the solder heats up and cools, and then gets hot again (usually ingame).

Anyway, if you have a warranty, and you start getting the red rings, then send it back. Cause they will all fail eventually.

MS tried to fix this on the elite by putting some hot glue around the chip, pretty terrible fix really, will be interesting to see how it goes.

i got it for the first time 2 days ago. wasn't for over heating though. it was thundering outside and all of a sudden my cable boxes started flickering on and off, then the xbox got the red lights. everything is good now though.

I've never had the full red-ring of death...but I had the 1/4 red-ring of death which means my hard drive was fucked.

My Microsoft warrenty had expired, but thankfully I had the Best Buy warrenty still :-) They gave me in-store credit for the whole xbox 360 rather than just a hard drive. :-)

Wouldn't you know it, I got several freezing problems and then a 3/4 red ring of death. It was still under immediate-exchange warranty with GameStop, so I swapped it off easily.

Took it home, plugged it in, and got....whaddya know...another 3/4 red ring of death. :|

Gonna try again today I guess...if they give me another fucked console I'll just demand my $400 back.

Interestingly enough, as I understand it, ALL 360's are now covered for a 3 year warranty due to the 3 red rings.

Apparently this just happened like yesterday or today too.
