In Hollywood, it appears today that one of the most reliable things anyone can bet on is that the 'Spider-Man' franchise is a cash cow for Sony and Columbia Pictures, with the studio having the rights, and plans to make a total of six movies, of which this would obviously be the 4th. What is not so sure is what nature this movie, which the studio will definitely make, will take. Director Sam Raimi, star Tobey Maguire and the rest of the cast have been a stable unit, but the word is that Spider-Man 3 sort of ties up a lot of the stories of what can be considered the "first half" or "first trilogy" of 'Spider-Man' movies, and so this fourth movie may very much be a fresh start in some ways. It could be a new start with a new director, certainly, and also with a new Peter Parker, a new Mary Jane, and any number of other variables.

Pretty exciting, but I'm not too thrilled about the idea of new actors. Like them or hate them I've come to accept the cast as who they are. Tobey Maguire IS Peter Parker. Kirsten Dunst IS Mary Jane etc.

Yeah like Tobey Maguire has anything better going for him.

If they get a new cast and crew, it will bomb.
Jeritron
06-03-2007, 03:20 AM
No, if they take it in a shitty direction it will bomb.
Batman Forever was a similar concept. Perhaps even more of a stray, time will tell. It was a new director, new tone, new mood, and a new Batman/Bruce Wayne. It clung to the same continuity in theory but aside from a few ambiguous references it was basically a new bag.
The only returning cast was Gordon and Alfred.
I bet the same Jameson and Aunt Mae stick around.
It did very well at the box office and was a big deal, and even though it bordered on cartoony and campy, it was pretty good at the time. It was well received and it's success was grand and it was primed for sequels.
Unfortunately, the shitty handling of the next one is what killed the franchise.
New Spidey and a new director, or even a new direction with the franchise isn't gonna kill it. As long as it maintains quality and is worthy of the Spider-Man name, it will live on.
Of course it will eventually get killed, but it's not impossible that they could succeed with a new direction for 1 or all 3 future movies.

Meh, they could do an older Spidey movie I suppose.
Jon Kano

What as in where x amount of years have passed since 3? Yeah that could work.
HeartBreakMan2k
06-03-2007, 08:13 AM
Yeah, I mean... that'd work especially if they're wanting to lead into the Sinister Six where the villians have had time to group up.
Rammsteinmad
06-03-2007, 09:10 AM
That'd actually be pretty cool.
I suppose if they left it a few years they could get someone else to play an older Peter Parker. But the guy that played Jameson should stay, he's awesome.
Kane Knight
06-03-2007, 09:55 AM
Jameson's old enough that he doesn't need to change.
Mr Regal

I couldn't care less if the cast changed. As long as the new actors are capable.
Kane Knight

I don't even get the big deal about a cast change. Maguire was pretty lame, even in the role of an insecure nerd with super powers. Parker's supposed to be a sympathetic character. Tobey makes me want to help the bad guys win. I won't even go into MJ, because there's too much to say about her character.

An older Spiderman huh...I really don't think that would work. In order for that to work, they'd have to wait ten years....and then the kids who are into Spiderman right now would appreciate it more.
For example, it would have been a dream come true if in 2004 they did the Frank Miller Batman story instead of Batman Begins...and I would have preferred Michael Keaton return to play an older Batman.
But I doubt much money would have been made. But I think my generation would have really enjoyed it. And who knows, it would have been a good chance to introduce kids today to the first two Batman movies with Michael Keaton and advertisers could have told him that the guy who directed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory directed those as well. Those films aren't dated in my opinion and kids today would still love em'.
But enough Batman, back to Spiderman.
Personally, I think they should get the original cast to do it or not do it all. I'm sure the advertisers would be able to sucker the people in but will they like the product? Not likely. I know thousands and thousands of people went to see Batman Forever when it came out but I didn't know anyone back then or now that actually liked it. Jim Carrey was the only good thing about it.

You don't know what I'm talking about and you guys have the nerve to insult my intelligence? Maybe it's because it's you're too stupid. Well, I'll sum it all up for you in idiot terms so you can get it:
A movie about an older Spiderman would suck and bomb. Young kids don't wanna see an old geezer as Spiderman. They'd wonder what happened to Maguire and who the old man was dressed up as Spiderman. If a film about an old Spiderman were to happen anytime soon, why not e-mail the WWE and suggest that they bring Hulk Hogan back and let him have another title run while we're at it? Now if Hollywood waited ten years for the kids of today to grow up, then they might appreciate an older Spiderman just like I would have enjoyed a movie about an older Batman three years ago with Michael Keaton as the lead because I grew up on the Tim Burton Batman movies.
But the fact of the matter is, even if a new young actor played Spiderman, a new Spiderman movie with a new cast and crew would suck and you're an idiot if you think otherwise. It's a waste of time and money. Why not use that money and energy to donate to a charity instead of making a crappy movie no one is going to like?
Mark my words. It will suck and then it will bomb and I will be sure to remind you all when it happens.
The only reason why they're making new Spiderman movies is because the others brought in money and as long as something brings money in, they're gonna keep shipping them out. But making a new movie with a new cast is almost like the studio's way of trying to kill off the series once and for all because they know a new cast and crew will ruin the series. Part IV will come out and blow ass and parts V and VI will most likely go straight to DVD...but as long as the studio gets their money, that's all they care about and they already made millions from the character so I doubt they care anymore.
Personally, I think Spiderman is over-rated anyway. Batman is way cooler. ;)
Bring on the red, bitches.

Ah, Hell, I'll feed the troll.
A movie about an older Spiderman would suck and bomb. Young kids don't wanna see an old geezer as Spiderman.
Yeah, we're talking about a 90 year old Spider-Man. And who uses Geezer anymore? Are you 50?
They'd wonder what happened to Maguire and who the old man was dressed up as Spiderman.
Yes, because people are so horrendously stupid they couldn't figure out that a different actor can play the same role. And putting something as simple as "Five Years Later..." At the beginning would certainly be incomprehensable to them.
Forgive me if I lack faith in your word that it'll bomb simply because of a different cast.
Mark my words. It will suck and then it will bomb and I will be sure to remind you all when it happens,.
It's amazing how ebullient people tend to get over the prospect of failure.
The only reason why they're making new Spiderman movies is because the others brought in money and as long as something brings money in, they're gonna keep shipping them out. But making a new movie with a new cast is almost like the studio's way of trying to kill off the series once and for all because they know a new cast and crew will ruin the series.
Well, you certainly would know more about filmmaking than the guys making it, after all.
And no, it's not "almost like."
Part IV will come out and blow ass and parts V and VI will most likely go straight to DVD...but as long as the studio gets their money, that's all they care about and they already made millions from the character so I doubt they care anymore.
But...But you just said that they would continue to release them as long as they made money! Hell, you also just said that they don't care about the character! Why, then, would they even release a fifth after the fourth bombed?
You didn't think this through very much, did you?

Possible Villains: (4/19/07) Spider-Man has a large rogue's gallery of villains who have yet to be brought to the big screen including Electro, Mysterio, Rhino, the Vulture and many more. Two strong possibilities for this fourth movie are the return of Venom, who is introduced in the second half of Spider-Man 3 and the Lizard, whose creation has slowly been teased in the second and third movies by the inclusion of Dr. Kurt Connors, as played by Dylan Baker.

Needs Rhino. Even if he's just a minor villain. I want to see Spidey drop a building on him.
Jeritron
06-06-2007, 02:16 PM
Yea I personally think it'd be easy to incorporate Rhino and Shocker in as goons for Spidey to tangle with a couple times on behalf of Kingpin. So if they are able to use Kingpin, I'd like to see him be the brains with Shocker and Rhino doing his bidding. And in all of it the real main villian be the tweener Hobby.
Kane Knight
06-06-2007, 02:24 PM
Actually, I wouldn't say no to the Kingpin imposing himself on multiple movies. On top of whoever baddy of the week is, Kingpin has an outstanding hit on Spider-Man, and he doesn't even need to show up at first. At worst, we're looking at like a 1-2 scene commitment.

You just give him the same treatment most outrageous superheroes have gotten thus far.
They made Sabretooth, Wolverine, Juggernaut and others look real. They can do the same with Rhino.
Shocker wouldn't be hard. You can just have a thug with the gauntlets. He can wear a cool looking ski mask and a trench coat, and a yellow and black sweatervest.
WIth Rhino, Instead it can be a big armored supersuit with a horned helmet.
I like the idea (I posted earlier) of Kingpin dealing in the same market as Oscorp. Applied sciences and military technology. I also like the idea of his goons being a product of what hes developed and stolen. Crooked industrial espionage all over the place, with him sending them there to steal and sabotage stuff. Of course Spidey will have some emotional motive to defend and protect Oscorp due to his ties with the family legacy, in addition to him just standing up to crime and Kingpins treachery.
The crooked CEO/Mob Boss Kingpin would of course get sick of this bug, and go to new lengths to squash him.
After the 5th installment where they're introduced, Who is to say that Kingpin and Smythe can't be the ones to bring back Venom. Not to control him, but just to try and harness his power and then he spawns Carnage and that whole mess breaks out as Kingpin and his stooges just cower at what they've done.
Just send Shocker and Rhino to steal the symbiote.
This could be pre or post Lizard. Post would probably be better, since at this point Connors would be friends with Spiderman and not just Parker. There you have a reason for Spidey to care about what happened, and about the people who did it.
Some more brainstorming: How about the motive for Smythe and Shocker to steal the symbiote is to study it as a way for them to break Kingpin out of a maximum security prison that Spidey lands him in at the end of 5. It's powers would be perfect for breaking in. Plus thats where Venom could spawn and Carnage could bond to Kassidy.
Venom wouldn't just go along with things unless it was beneficial to him, so what could they offer him: Spiderman.
But when Spidey falls into Venoms later trap, Carnage gets involved and the triple threat becomes a teamup against the unstoppable Carnage.
I'd like to see Lizard be the primary villian of 4 and have a more simple installment to go back to basics and get sure footing. I enjoyed Spidey 3 but for the benefit of the franchise it'd be nice to see them tone it down before doing stories with multiple players like I'd like for 5 and 6.

Btw, totally off topic, but i would still love to see a Captain America movie.

The Captain America they made movie wasn't all that bad for it's time actually....if I recall correctly...

They could also go with the Scorpion storyline in the fourth movie somehow whether he be a major or minor villain. Now IF Eddie Brock did die, they could use the story line from the comics where Gargan (Scorpion) gets the symbiote on him and becomes Venom. Hed prolly just use the symbiote that Dr. Connors still has Id think.

In fact if they do the sinister 6 that would be the right way to go right? Isnt Gargan Venom when the sinister six is around? Or is that just the Thunderbolts?

I don't think so. I don't remember what year it was made, but it was made around the same time as Batman, and after Superman. A bad movie is a bad movie, and Captain America was one

I checked it. 1990. Not really any excuses.
Until Xmen and Spiderman finally got our of their 10 year development hell, Marvel movies SUCKED. There were a few of them and they were all worse than your average sci fi channel garbage.
The best screen adaptation of a Marvel superhero at that point was Vincent D'nofrio as Thor in Adventures in Babysitting

Sinister Six dates back a couple decades, now. It's had many different forms.

Vulture is just such a shitty character. If Ben Kingsley hadnt done Thunderbirds, he'd be a good actor choice for Vulture.

I personally want to see Mysterio as the villain in one of the movies. I think that the visual effects would be limitless for him.
Heck, if Bruce Campbell was not already in the movies, he would be perfect to play him.

The only roster change I can remember offhand is when Hobby replaced the deceased Kraven.

It had Cap and The Red Skull. It was certainly watchable.....at the time. I remember it coming out. I was young and I enjoyed it. so:foc:

Wasn't it released in like 1996? Like after being put on ice because even they knew it sucked?
Nothing says enjoyable like a direct to DVD that's only released because a bunch of fanboys will buy anything with "Marvel" on it.

It was called the Insidious Six in the show actually, and to be painfully obvious it was Doc Ock, Scorpion, Shocker, Rhino, Mysterio and Chameleon

Anyway...in part 4, i would like to see "The Lizzard" and Scorpion as one of the main villians, maybe have Scorpion turn into Venom at the end of the movie or something.
Then you could have Venom in part 5, let him be in the back ground to make some space for Mysterio and Kraven as main villians, then let part 5 end with Carnage being created.
Part 6 you could have a new version of The Sinister Six, with Venom, Carnage, Raven, Electro and Kraven and Mysterio :p
It will probably never ever happen, but it could be a hot new version of the Six.
