View Full Version : Which superstar/s would have to go to Smackdown! to get people watching the "B" show?

It's painfully obvious that people on the boards aren't watching Smackdown! Just wondering who people think would get them to tune in.

I know it would never happen - but Shawn Michaels on Smackdown! with a World Title run might get me watching.

DX on Smackdown would get a lot of attention.

Wouldn't happen, but still.

DX on Raw didn't get much attention, what makes you think they would get more attention on Smackdown?

Well if they were on Smackdown I'm sure ratings would go up mainly because of the younger demographic they aim towards these days. The Smackdown fans are usually younger than RAW and would probably higher ratings if the wanted to see DX on Smackdown.

Look at the names they've had in the past, too.

You have to realize that Smackdown is shown in a smaller market so not everyone who watches Raw has the same ability to watch Smackdown.

And if you say that Smackdown fans are younger than Raw fans and if they cater to the younger fans then your theory is basically DOA because those young fans would already be watching Smackdown regardless if DX is on or not.

I don't think it's in a smaller market anymore. Considering it's now in both WB and UPN markets now.

It's Network TV, and people are more likely to have it.

On the other hand, the ratings are lower, which should tell you something about it. It also doesn't comparably draw in terms of households.

Also, on the other hand, for all the talk about a younger audience, WWE were the ones telling us they captured the coveted 18-35 demographic. Are us 18-35ers the "younger" Audience to which you refer? I mean, I wouldn't trust them on their word, but they did it AND they spent like 3 months bragging that they were the number one network show yadda yadda....

The younger audience counts in terms of merch sales, not ratings. And more than likely, seat sales.

Also, one other issue....

DX can't be DX on Network TV. Can't. Period. They couldn't do "Suck it!" Or any of their pet tricks, or more modern "cock" jokes and shit from DX-Lite. There's no point. They'd be neutered.

So why would anyone put them on Netwrok?

Nothing, not even Edge, not HBK, not even Cena not being on the show helps it.

I have not watched SmackDown! in years and I don't think any one particular superstar changing brands could get me motivated enough to start watching again either.

Nobody changing brands or even promotions makes a difference right now. Not to anyone of consequence.

If Michaels, Hunter or in truth even Punk went to SmackDown, I'd probably begin to tune in more normally.

Yea but for how long, Ive made a few attempts at getting through a show, but I have to stop and record it so I can fast foward through the other 90 minutes of trash.

You have to realize that Smackdown is shown in a smaller market so not everyone who watches Raw has the same ability to watch Smackdown.

Didn't really think of that. Here in the UK all three brands are on the same channel, and on at late night. So it's pretty different in that respect.

CM Punk on Smackdown would be pretty cool. But that would totally kill ECW (All the more reason for doing it I guess).

Someone said on another thread about the draft, it doesn't matter who gets drafted anyway because superstars seem to keep popping up on each brand now anyway.

Just wondering if anyone thinks the show times adversley affect SD!

I dunno what it's like over in the US, here in the UK more 18 - 35 year olds go out on a Friday than on a Monday.

I know Raw has to compete with Monday Night Football but at least the Monday night audience is in their homes to happen across Raw.

Oh, and to answer the question...if Brock Lesnar returned I'd be watching (read downloading) every week.

Well, if you look at the numbers before the shift to Friday Nights, and you look at the numbers after, it's pretty clear that being on a bad night (IT is a bad night in the states too) hasn't really affected it much. In fact, for a while, the numbers were better on Friday than on Thursday. I guess Vince's only fans are internet nerds with no social lives. ;)

Network runs into the MNF problem on a larger scale. You see, a lot of our sports have deals with local affiliates. Which means, say, since I'm nnear Boston, a lot of Smackdowns were pre-empted for Bruins and Sox games. I don't know if they will be on CW, because it looks like whatever took over UPN 38 will be running games still, but large markets lose Smackdown sometimes. We're not even talking about competing with MNF, we're talking about areas that show games instead of their usual programming. Which is frustrating only with shows that don't rerun, like Smackdown.

But a boston game could black out the Market in a pretty large area, so just imagine what real teams do to Network. ;)

With how Smackdown is right now, probably no one.

Well if HHH was there, maybe it could be good depending on if he wanted it to be good.

I think the main thing would be to get Smackown off Friday. I'd actually watch it if it was on any other day of the week (well besides Saturday).

The logical improvement for SmackDown! would be to have Shawn Michaels drafted there. If the General Manager/Executive Assistant/Stevie Richards get to pick names, when Jonathan Coachman picks Triple H, it would only make sense for Theodore Long to follow with a pick of Shawn Michaels.

People laugh at me when I suggest this, but I think having HBK play an on-screen mentor role to Paul London & Brian Kendrick would be great. That doesn't mean a main event push for London & Kendrick, so I'm not suggesting that, I only think it would be nice if Michaels got them over via association. Maybe the occasion six-man tag team main event.

Personally, I would mark out for a feud that consisted of Shawn Michaels leading his students of Paul London & Brian Kendrick against the products of the Hart Family Dungeon: Chris Benoit, Harry Smith and TJ Wilson. If you want to expand the feud, have Paul Burchill return to SmackDown!, and join William Regal and Dave Taylor. I guess Finlay would be fine in his role, as well. To go even further, if CM Punk ends up on SmackDown! which I think is a very real possibility), you can bring in Colt Cabana and Ace Steel as his partners. You'd have the established veterans of Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit, William Regal, Dave Taylor and possibly Finlay helping out the newer stars of Paul London, Brian Kendrick, Harry Smith, TJ Wilson, CM Punk, Ace Steel, and possibly Paul Burchill.

Well while we are doing fantasy angles, mine would be tonight at One Night Stand after Cena defeats Khali, Edge comes out. Edge tells Cena that tonight is Cena's last stand and then BAM Chris Jericho attacks Cena from behind. And when Cena tries to fight off Jericho, BAM Cena gets speared by Edge,

And then out of NOWHERE KURT FREAKIN ANGLE comes out and puts Cena in the ankle lock. While Kurt has Cena in the ankle lock, Chris Benoit comes out for no reason and puts the Crossface on Cena.

So Jericho has the Walls of Jericho on Cena while Angle has Cena in the Ankle Lock all the while Benoit has Cena in the Crossface. And then Finlay comes out and beats Cena within an inch of his life with the shilelaigh because Finlay loves to fight.

And then Ron Simmons comes out while all of this is going on and says "...DAMN!"

End of show.

Oh and then Paul London cashes in the MITB contract he won earlier in the night against Brian Kendrick, Val Venis, Savio Vega, a returning Doug Basham, and The Brooklyn Brawler and wins the WWE Title by pinning a lifeless John Cena.

The next night on Raw, Paul London brings the Million Dollar Belt out of retirement and gives it to Brian Kendrick for no reason at all.

Also, KK, what is so "generic" about my angles? I can understand it if you don't like them, you being a bitter douche and all, but calling my more "out there" ideas generic just reeks of sour grapes. I don't want to toot my own horn (that's more of a KK thing), but I could book Finlay as a wrestling zebra to half-way credibility. Call my ideas ridiculous, call them awful, call them deluded (the latter of which just shows your ignorance), but "generic" just makes you look sad.

By the way, one of the ways to improve the "B" show is to trade Michael Hayes to the unemployment line. What in the FUCK kind of grass is this fucker smoking to come up with some of the shit that he thinks is good while believing he's the second coming of Christ?

Get rid of Hayes and SD gets TEN TIMES BETTER, GUARANTEED!!

Man, you're such a douche, KK. Like honestly, sour grapes. I throw the same storylines out there for the same guys, you know, to be consistent. Maybe the same concept comes up when I'm doing one of BDC's type "push a guy to the World Title" scenarios. But that's like saying "All your posts are the same, they all consist of text."

During the draft, I'd love to see things shaken up quite a bit. Send Rob Van Dam (providing he re-signs with the WWE...give him that reduced schedule), Shawn Michaels and Carlito to SmackDown!.

What number is that KK? Recycled storyline number 4 or 5?
