At WCW's Bash at the Beach on July 9, a series of events caused fans and wrestling observers to seriously question what they saw. Many said it was one of the most significant real-life happenings (or shoots) ever witnessed on a wrestling show. Others said it was all an elaborate storyline (or work) to fool everyone and create interest in WCW.

Here's what happened: Hulk Hogan was set to face WCW world heavyweight champion Jeff Jarrett. When Hogan approached the ring, Jarrett lay down and told Hogan to pin him. Hogan did and immediately left the arena with the belt. Later on the pay-per-view, writer Vince Russo unleashed a vicious verbal attack on Hogan and said he would never again wrestle in WCW.

It was a worked shoot that panned out like everything else Russo pushed out of WCW.

From what I have read from all parties, it sounds like a work turned shoot. From what I can gather, I assume the actual "laying down" was a work but Russo either went too far and pissed off Hogan or planned on swerving Hogan from the beginning.

I had geniunely lost interest in WCW long before that, so that was the first time I have seen it, though I've heard lots about it.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO many things led to WCW dying.

I've never actually seen any of that footage. just the Russo shoot after that.

Well if I remember rightly that was the last time Hogan was on WCW TV. Russo came out and 'fired' him later that night and a new title match was put on between JJ and Booker T which Booker T won making him WCW Champion for the first time.

It's hard to tell what was work and shoot, like I said, it was the last time that Hogan worked for WCW but at the same time, kinda weird that his music was ready and on time...

Is really hard to have the music ready? All you probably need to do is push a button
