What do you guys think about highly touted high school QB prospects going to teams running the spread offense in the future? For the most part, good spread QBs really aren't much of an NFL prospect (at least at the QB position) which has killed a lot of other types of college offenses in the past (Triple Option, Wishbone, etc)

Since the offense is still in its infancy, Vince Young and Alex Smith are about all we have to base it off of. However Urban Meyer ran the offense a bit differently then he does now with Tebow (Smith was passing a lot more often and seemed logical that he could succeed in an NFL style offense) and the offense Texas was running had some spread principles mixed in with a shot gun offense, they weren't running a lot of the crazy shit you see now it was mostly just a zone-read with the QB/tailback. I can't really see guys like Pat White, Dennis Dixon and Tim Tebow playing QB in the NFL. Even spread offenses that are more pass orientated seem to lack in the NFL prospects, like every year a new Texas Tech QB is breaking all types of records yet none of them ever do anything in the NFL.

While plenty of QBs who played at colleges with NFL style offenses haven't done dick in the pros, it still seems like a more attractive option since you at least have a chance to prove yourself while a lot of spread QBs are written off as "Runners" or "products of a gimmick passing attack"

I say a current college QB like a Matt Ryan or Andre Woodson would play the best in the NFL over guys like White, Dixon, and Tebow.

Ole Miss hired former Ark head coach Houston Nutt.. I'm kinda stoked about it cause outta his 15 years at Ark, he took them to like 7 bowl games and 2 SEC title games..

No chance

Ohio State is ahead of them in the rankings with no games left and there is no way Va Tech would go ahead of LSU seeing how LSU beat them bad early in the year

Plus BC is gonna beat Va Tech anyway....:shifty:

1. Diesel Mac has been consistantly talking about Mizzou on this thread all season, even thoush he always spelled it Missou or Mizzu.

2. Ole Miss will be a much less demanding job. They have a solid fan base but expectations aren't nearly as high or as unrealistic as Arkansas.

3. Mizzou technically might not be the most skilled team in the nation, but they arethe legitimate No. 1 team in the country right now. Every other top ranked team has lost to a worse team, in many cases a far worse team. Missouri is the only BCS conference school that has beaten everybody it was supposed to, and it's one loss came at No. 4 Okalahoma without the starting running back and they lost by exactly what Vegas projected them to by, 10 points. Outside of Norman and with Temple back and English out, I am very optimistic that Mizzou will be in the national championship.

At this point, I think they really shout let Hawaii into the title game.

I have a feeling it is going to wind up LSU vs. OSU however. I think it would be BCS suicide to let Georgia in. So i dont think that will happen.

ESPNs BCS Bowl Predictions

NC Ohio St vs LSU. Will def be a defensive game

Rose Bowl USC vs Georgia Prolly the top 2 teams on fire right now

Orange Bowl VT vs WV They sometimes play in the reg season I think VT will be the more motavated team and will win

Fiesta Bowl Oklahoma vs Kansas these 2 teams prolly get to play each other after all

Sugar Bowl Hawaii vs Arizona State could be a exciting matchup between the 2 high powered offenses.

UGA has been playing on fire lately Boomer but since they didnt even make the SEC title game (they almost because Tenn/UK 4 OT game was a classic) they prolly wont get the chance over LSU/USC. That early season loss to South Carolina where they led the whole game till the end really hurt UGA. They are prolly like LSU last yr.

Boomer

Coach Richt just made his case on ESPN.

Sepholio
12-02-2007, 01:34 AM
Georgia should go. Nebraska in 02 made it in under the same situation as UGA. The conference championship game is nothing more than a tool for said conference to milk some extra cash out of its fans. If the championship game is affected by winning a conference title game, then what of teams potentially vying for a national title birth from a conference that has no championship? It just wouldn't work.

Besides, letting UGA play for the national title will continue to show how big of a clusterfuck the BCS is anyways and give its opponents (which are many) even more justification for switching to a playoff system.

Personally, if not UGA, then Kansas deserves it, being the one-loss team in the hunt here. People are starting to say Hawaii, but really, if you put any of the other teams in the hunt against the same schedule as hawaii and they would ALL be undefeated most likely. Not hard to go unbeaten when hardly anyone you play could beat themselves out of a wet paper bag.

Also, now that I recall, alot of people claim UGA didn't win their division, when they were actually co-SEC East champs, with Tenn holding the tie break, even though they had a worse record. Maybe they could put UGA against LSU in a playoff game to see which one gets to beat the tar out of OSU.

UGA will be #2 in the BCS and play for the NC. OSU will get demolished.

LSU will be #2 in the AP and demolish Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl.

Then we will once again have 2 teams arguing over which is the real poll, which is the real national champion.

And this time, they'll be from the same conference, too. Co-national champions from the SEC = all the nay-sayers shutting the hell up about how the SEC is not the best conference.

Don't you love how ridiculous the BCS is? Makes every holiday season the greatest time of the year.

Only thing about that RP is Illnois got in over Missouri because

1. Rose Bowl perfers to have it a Pac 10 Big Ten Matchup

2. Ill beat the BCS #1 Ohio St

It is crappy though, Missouri beat TWO BCS teams in Illinois and Kansas. And only 2 losses were both to a very good Oklahoma and they were just #1 last week!

I read this in a forum about the whole Les Miles going to Michigan fiasco by ESPN.

Now from what I have been told is essentially behind the scenes is that UM and Miles through intermediaries had hammered out a deal that was palatable for both sides.
Essentially, Miles made it clear that he wanted to focus on the SEC Title game, then move forward from there, but wanted the focus on the game.
The agreement so to speak, was agreed to on Thursday or Friday, but the formal interview still had to take place. Have to do the interview.
I believe that UM's AD got fleeced in the Beilein deal from WVU...he hammered out deal and was too far down the road and was drubbed in the buyout of his conract from WVU.
Someone somewhere leaked the info Friday. Then Herbstreit ran with it as did some others.
At this point on Friday when this was going down, Miles became upset that all of this had happened against his wishes in all fairness to LSU.
The administration from LSU then stepped to the plate with a very lucrative deal and said we want you, why don't you just stay.
Miles decides that is what he wants to do...this leads into the impromptu presser on Saturday in Atlanta and then sends many in backpedaling.
Who leaked it? Why would they?.
There is a faction at UM that didn't want Miles, ala Carr. I believe that is one reason why Carr announced his retirement so quickly...fairly obvious though. Some have said that the prez favored Ferentz and AD Martin wanted Miles.
I don't think that Miles had told his players his intention. He may have but I doubt that is something you would want to do heading into a game with the magnitude of the SEC Title...and lingering BCS title hopes.
So obviously, the info got leaked but who did it?

I thought it should have been USC vs Missouri, OSU vs WV, Hawaii vs Kansas, VT vs GA and the National Title game, OU vs LSU.I don't know if Missouri was avaible in the pool for the Rose Bowl game (I think heard it was BC, Hawaii or a Big 10 team) Also you can only have 2 teams from one conference in the BCS, right there you got 3 teams from the Big 12

Basically Missouri should have made it in over Kansas

The traveling thing no doubt plays a huge role, BC missed out on the Chick Fil A Bowl (Usually goes the #2 ACC team) to Clemson just because Clemson has way more fans

1. Missouri’s a better team. Duh. This was up for debate around 6:59 p.m. on Oct. 24. It hasn’t been since then. Even the most loyal Kansas fans can’t deny that Missouri proved it was the better team nine days ago on a neutral field. Had MU’s defense not backed off its aggressive game plan in the second half, the score might have been more lopsided than 36-28. And don’t tell me Kansas would have done a better job against Oklahoma. If KU’s offense couldn’t block Missouri’s pass rush, Todd Reesing would have been the Sooners’ punching bag from the opening kickoff.

2. The attendance fallacy. Unless the Orange Bowl fell hook, line and sinker for Lew Perkins’ fuzzy math, it’s preposterous to think Missouri wouldn’t have traveled as well if not better than Kansas to Miami. Two weeks ago, Perkins made the claim that the Arrowhead crowd would be 55,000 Kansas fans and 25,000 Missouri fans. Didn’t happen. Either Perkins was way off on his projections or 15,000 Kansas fans unloaded their tickets to Missouri fans.

Last week, after a phone interview with Orange Bowl CEO Eric Poms, he asked me if I thought Missouri would travel well to Miami. He seemed concerned based on the crowds for MU’s last few bowls. I made the point that New Year’s trips to Shreveport and El Paso aren’t the most attractive destinations and that I thought MU would travel well to his gam,e. I suggested that MU’s crowds at Arrowhead and San Antonio would be better indicators of the fan support the Tigers have this year.

If anything, Missouri fans blew the attendance theory out of the water this morning when they gobbled up MU’s entire allotment of Cotton Bowl tickets in two hours. MU reports that it sold all of its 16,000 tickets by 10 a.m.

3. Star power. Missouri landed eight players on the AP All-Big 12 first team, including the offensive player of the year, junior quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Chase Daniel. Kansas matched Oklahoma with the second-most first-team players with four. Fans outside of Big 12 country might recognize KU cornerback Aqib Talib and perhaps Reesing, but it’s a fairly anonymous cast of players — some very good players, but certainly not a roster of buzz-worthy stars like Daniel, Jeremy Maclin, Martin Rucker and Chase Coffman. It doesn’t help that Kansas shies away from promoting its players for national recognition and awards. Meanwhile, the Cotton Bowl is giddy over its Daniel vs. Darren McFadden showdown.

The SEC is good but I dont understand how you can claim theyre the best... usually you would have to look at out of conference play and see how they did against quality schools out of their conference. Now LSU had one quality win out of conference and it was a beating of Va tech. But the rest of the teams were shit. Whatever I think LSU has the best talent in the country. They should win em all. But lets look at the other schools....

Georgia beats Oklahoima St. and Georgia Tech. both unranked, and ending with a combined 11 losses.

Tennesse, the SEC east champ and second place in the SEC, loses by two touchdowns to a 6-6 California team. The other teams they play are shit.

Florida plays Westerm Kentuckey, Troy, FAU, and Florida St. Are you serious?

Kentuckey plays a schedual almost the exact same as Florida except they have a win over a Louisville thats ranked #9 at the time but ends with a 6-6 record.

South Carolina and Vanderbilt play noone what so ever.

Auburn beats a 7 loss Kansas St. team and loses to South Florida, who I know were ranked number two at one time, but its fuckin Auburn! Arent they supposed to be really good?

Arkansas plays through a bunch of 1-AA teams

And Im not even going to waste my time with Miss St. alabama and Mississippi.

Yea Florida being an SEC team won the national Championship, but that doesnt have anything to do with the conference... that has to do with the team. And yea LSU beat Notre Dame... but who didnt beat Notre Dame that year?

That's what Bowl games and the BCS title is for..

And that is what I hate. If there was a playoff system in place teams would be more likely to play a stronger non-conference schedule, thus more interesting games would take place. Instead most teams are afraid of losing outside their conference so they schedule cupcakes.

exactly. If it werent for the national championship game big ten teams would only be able to play pac 10 teams in the rose bowl. Same with other conferences in the other bowls. The other divisions have it right, so why cant the top division get it?

The University of Alabama (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alabama_Crimson_Tide_football) once played up to three home football games there every season (including the entire 1987 home slate due to major renovations at Bryant-Denny Stadium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryant-Denny_Stadium), the Crimson Tide's on-campus home in Tuscaloosa), but has ended this practice; its last game at Legion Field was a 40-17 victory over the University of South Florida (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_South_Florida) on August 30, 2003. Auburn University (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auburn_Tigers_football) also used Legion Field less extensively, but the Tigers left upon the expansion of Jordan-Hare Stadium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jordan-Hare_Stadium) to a greater seating capacity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seating_capacity). After 1980, Auburn's only home game in Birmingham was the Iron Bowl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Bowl) up to 1987 and in 1991.And it used to seat like 11k more until the upper deck was removed..

p.s. The Iron Bowl is the yearly Auburn/Bama game..

..

theres extenuating circumstances i think. For example you have three undefeated teams and two are in the title game and the other blows out the team they play. If Hawaii obliterates georgia by a rediculous amount of points then they probably do deserve a share.

Kris P Lettus
12-24-2007, 03:44 PM
No way they blow out GA but even if they did, they don't deserve a share of anything.. It's like the last time LSU won the BCS title they had to share it with USC.. F'n bullshit.. If you don't play in the championship game, you don't deserve part of the title.. Bottom line.. If you don't like that Hawaii might get shafted as an undefeated team, then they need to change to a playoff system..

Jesus Shuttlesworth
12-24-2007, 04:22 PM
I doubt you'd feel that way if it is LSU (or some other SEC team) getting a share though. Hawaii is the only undefeated team in the country and if they beat Georgia, who a lot of people think is a top 5 team then I think they deserve a share. I don't give fuck about some system a bunch of old rich white guys made up

I personally think Auburn should have gotten a share the year they went undefeated and beat Virgina Tech (I think that's who it was) in their BCS game as well.

Kris P Lettus
12-24-2007, 04:33 PM
I don't think Auburn deserved a share of the title because they obv didn't deserve to make it to the BSC Championship game, even with going undefeated in the SEC, according to the BCS.. Do I personally think they deserve to be there?? Yes.. Do I make the calls in the BCS?? No..

Kris P Lettus

Reavant

When USC got a share of the championship it was the year when Oklahoma was #1 all year and lost their big 12 champ game and was still ranked #1 or 2 by the BCS coputers while LSU and USC both had one loss. LSU ended up beating Oklahoma and USC fucked up a good Michigan or Penn State team. I would say USC deserved a share because they deserved to be in the game while Oklahoma did not.

OH and by the way The national title may have a championship game now but they still do vote on a champ like they have done EVER SINCE THERE WAS COLLEGE FOOTBALL. Like all those years when there would be real good undefeated teams and they would vote Notre Dame national champs and situations like that. If both teams stink it up in the title game and/or one team who was borderline on getting into it and blows out their opponent, the voters can vote whoever they want as the national champion.

You try and argue that theres a system and they need to follow it, but they are following the system.

Jesus Shuttlesworth

Supreme Olajuwon

If Hawaii beats Georgia how can you say they don't deserve consideration for being national champions over possibly a two loss team? Because they weren't chosen to play in a game they never had a chance to play in in the first place? How can you definitively say Ohio State or LSU is the better team than an undefeated Hawaii?

Supreme Olajuwon
12-25-2007, 03:30 AM
Here's the thing that annoys me the most about this year. Hawaii started the season ranked in the top 25 meaning the voters thought they were one of the best teams in football before a game was ever played. Over the season every single team in front of them lost at least once and all except two lost at least twice. Boston College, Oregon, Kansas, Missouri, and South Florida all started the season UNRANKED, yet they all were able to move up to #1 or #2 during the year. And all Hawaii could do was move up to #10.

I hate this argument. Oklahoma is No. 1 all year and dominated everybody they play until their conference championship game against a great Kansas State team, but then because they lose that game another one loss team, USC, is automatically better. They both had one loss and Oklahoma was far more impressive all season. Just because they lost in the last game people said they didn't deserve it. K-State was probably much better than whoever USC lost to that year.

Oklahoma ran the score up against shit teams all year. Thats the only reason they stayed up there in rankings. Lol, I saw J.R. too. I pointed him out but nobody at my table knew what I was talking about. Oklahoma was really hit or miss all season. Dominated some games, but then lost to Colorado and Oklahoma State and barely scraped by Iowa State. I thought, at their best, they could have been National Championship Game worthy, esp. over Ohio State, but the one loss thing.

Anyway, even before it's all done:
1. LSU
2. Georgia
3. Ohio State
4. Virginia Tech
5. West Virginia
6. USC
7. Oklahoma
8. Missouri

The rest really don't matter. By default, Kansas will lose but nobody directly below them will win so they won't move down far, if at all. If things went as they should have, Mizzou should be finishing the season 4-5, but BCS and Oklahoma's bad game move them down.

This is who I think it should be, based not on the last set of rankings, and assuming an LSU and VT win, both without much pressure.

1. LSU
2. West Virginia
3. Georgia
4. Missouri
5. Oklahoma
6. Virginia Tech
7. USC
8. Ohio State

However I don't think Missouri was even avaiable for their game because the Orange Bowl picked Kansas before the Rose Bowl got to choose. Add that with Oklahoma getting an automatic bid there was no room for Missouri due to the 2 team per conference limit.

I heard something like the Rose Bowl got to pick between Hawaii, Boston College, Arizona State (not totally sure on that one though) or a Big 10 team

I think LSU is gonna win, but after watching all these bowl games the SEC wasn't as good as I thought this year so I dunno. I still think LSU is gonna win, but I think its gonna be closer than I expected earlier.

LSU ends up coming out with the W, too many dumb mistakes by Ohio State and LSU was able to capitalize on almost every single one.

With the way y'alls football team played, I can see why the marching band is the pride of the Ohio State Buckeyes..

Steltz is a f'n stud.. Did they ever say what happened to him?? Fractured arm or summat??

I hope we go after him or Zenon in the draft..

Jesus Shuttlesworth
01-08-2008, 01:10 AM
They said he had a stinger at first and that his arm was numb or something. Then they mentioned something about a strain I think, not totally sure what the deal was but it had to do with his shoulder

I dunno what his draft stock is gonna be like, he was a great college safety no doubt but I dunno how his speed matches up with other draft prospects

Did you mean to say "Brownies?" Or is there something I am missing with brown eyed people?

As I said, watched American Gladiators and it was far more exciting than the football I watched after.

I'm not anti-football. This was just a terribly boring way to end one of the most interesting college football seasons in years.

Yeah the BCS Bowl games where pretty weak sauce. There was some great bowl games though, I really enjoyed the BC/Michigan State one (from what I can remember anyway, had a few too many that day) and the UF/Michigan one was awesome.

Its just sad to know that there is no college football again until September :(

Honestly, in this format, I don't know what the right BCS championship should have been. On one hand I feel like LSU is a top team but I'm not convinced that they are the best team in the nation. I never thought Ohio State was the second best team either, but you can't really knock them off because they only lost one game. This is the year when they really needed a playoffs (to be fair, in most seasons the BCS national championship has the two obvious best teams).

Honestly, I thought Oklahoma should have been No. 2 and in the BCS championship, but they didn't really prove my point in the Fiesta Bowl. I still think that on a given night they could be the best team in the nation though.

Not in any order, I think any of these teams could have won an 8-team playoff: LSU, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Georgia. Maybe USC.

Only a maybe for USC...really?

And to be fair, the BCS hasn't always picked the two most obvious teams becase outside of 2003 there hasn't been obvious teams. Every other year there has been debate

God damn Ohio State really crumbled under pressure. I didn't watch much of the second half because I was at a bar but it looked like after LSU tied the game a lot of guys just quit. Malcolm Jenkins played awful even with his interception. Pretty terrible showing after getting shit on the entire season for being overrated.

Chris Wells is winning the Heisman next year though.

Ryan Mallet, who most had as the #2 QB coming outta high school year behind Clasen, is leaving Michigan. Can't say that I'm surprised, he doesn't really fit that offense. Where ever he ends up though is gonna be getting a great QB, of course he'll have to sit out next season due to transfering. I really hope he doesn't go to Tennessee but I think that's where'll end up.

Slaton isn't gonna do shit in the NFL, he seemed to be pretty soft in college. Whatever though, now its gonna be the Noel Devine show

Laurentis coming back is pretty huge, so far only one of like 18 or whatever underclassmen who filed paperwork to the NFL have officially declared (that being defensive end Vernon Gholston one of the most insanely jacked human beings I have ever seen)
