No sir, I don't like it. It is a slap in the face to all the wrestlers that did die. Well, more of pissing on their grave. Plus, it doesn't get Vince off of tv, now he will be mentioned at every event they go to for then next 6 months.
Also, what are they going to do when he really dies?

I likes it. It's (sort of) fresh. It's generating some buzz. It's actually got a sense of you don't know where they might go with this. For now, it's good. Once they "Austin Got Ran Over By A Car" it, and by that I mean fuck up the pay off (which I am almost certain they will do) then I hate it. But until they actually do something to make me turn on this angle, it gets the Tovo Stamp of :y:.

You're taking it far too seriously. His character has supposedly died. Its a TV show. I'd assume if he's kept off forever(unlikely) then when he does actually die, then they'll explain that the character died and not the person.
I really fail to see why people are having such a hard time expecting this. 'Mr. McMahon' is a television character. He got killed off(presumably) in a car bomb. Now we will see a series of storylines run from it.
I don't mean this as a personal shot at you, because a lot of people have taken the same opinion, but I don't understand why. It's similar to what I said in a different thread. When J.R Ewing got shot, did anyone turn around and say "I can't believe they want me to think Larry Hagman is dead!" or that it was a slap in the face of people who actually got shot.

It's not like he died of a drug overdose or was found dead in a hotel room.
It's wrestling and it's over the top.
Movies show people getting killed by gunfire, people get killed by gunfire everyday. Does that make showing in movies, classless?
I can't wait until this is referenced in a court case.
"He got the idea after watching the character Mr. McMahon get blown up."

1) Shut up noob.
2) J. R. Ewing and Larry Hagman are clearly different people. While Mr. McMahon is based heavily off Vince, and played by the same guy as well. It isn't as clear cut.
3) It isn't just a TV show, it is still real to me damnit.

I also hope it doesn't end in Vince faking his own death and coming back.

First off, its wayyyyy too early to give a definite answer to gauge if I like it or not. It's Wednesday morning.
But I can't see this going anywhere good. Yeah, there's a bit of a who-done-it thing going on. But I've already bet my money on Steve-o/Jackass.
Yeah, it gets McMahon off tv for a while. Then there's a slap in my face waiting for the day he gets resurrected in an even stupider way than the way he died.
Basically unless it ends differently than I see, which is extremely possible, we're ending up in the red.

My first reaction was "Holy shit...that is ridiculous," then I warmed up to it almost instantly. It gets Vince off my TV (sure, he will still be mentioned, but at least Shane will be doing the talking), and it is a genuinely interesting angle. I mean, until it's revealed to be Steve-O. Until then, the who-dunnit aspect will actually be intriguing to me. I mean, blowing up Vince is the best way to get a push like...ever. Except maybe next to beating The Undertaker at WrestleMania, but you need to be slightly elevated for that, anyway, 'cause Taker won't just lie down for nobody.
I watched the angle with my family on RAW, and their reaction was "What is with Vince? Haha, why are we just watching him walk for so long?" I told them to keep watching, then he got in his limo and BOOM! My dad started laughing hysterically, as did I, and my nephew was kind of scared by it all. He knows it's all fake, but he was under the belief Santino Marella was actually a fan, and was disappointed when he found out otherwise. There was some markish fear in him, and he couldn't understand why his uncle and grandfather were laughing.
Then my dad started to get into it, and asked me all these questions. "Why did Vince go crazy? Is he actually dying, and he just decided to go out with a bang? Is he leaving the company to his son?" Then he asked me something that made me completely question his sanity: "Are you sure he's not actually dying, because it didn't look like a stuntman?" :| No, he actually decided to blow himself up for RAW. My dad is pretty crafty onto things, he knows when wrestlers aren't going to fight ("You know he's not going to do anything, because he's still wearing his watch"). I think this is just something that is alluring people's creativity.
I think even those who realise that wrestling is fixed are at least slightly interested in where this is going. If the WWE has it revealed to be someone the fans can instantly latch on to, and can expect to be around for some time (ie. non-Jackass guys), the WWE could have one of its hottest angles on its hands.
Here's the biggest question - IF they went with someone blowing it up and Vince somehow surviving (because he must return sooner or later) instead of the "I was behind it" angle, would they wind up being heel or face?
Whichever it'll be they would probably be the hottest one going, but it's not obvious on what side they'd be on. Vince is heel, but the guy who did it would be attempting to kill a man going insane.
...Yeah, they'll just be going with the "I did it, and now you all care" angle.

I dont completely agree with this angle however it has had all the smarks, marks and people who dont even watch, talking about this "death".

I gotta say, it's a great angle, but it seems wasted. Does the "Mr. McMahon" character really warrant the time and effort dedicated to him right now in 2007? As a bit part player, fine. As an authority figure, fine. But the focal point of what may turn out to be the biggest angle of the year (hot off the heels of arguably the previous frontrunner, that being the Donald Trump crossover, also prominently featuring Vinnie Mac)?
I don't mind that they killed off a character... I'm a bit old school and oftentimes shake my head at some of the entertainment aspects we are expected to buy (and listing Raw as an "action adventure" program) but recognise that these are characters on the TV screen and an occasional on-screen death isn't inexcusable. When said character is so closely related to the real person behind the gimmick, to the extent of sharing the same name, the blurring of the lines of fiction and reality can make for great TV, but part of me thinks a death might be a bit too far (I mean, if "Mr McMahon, the owner of the WWE" was a character played by Joe Bloggs the actor it wouldn't make it so near the knuckle).
I have to admit, when the limo exploded on Raw I just went "wow". It was the absolute last thing I expected (although I was half expecting some kind of suicide angle, I certainly didn't expect the explosion). Shock TV worked in the late 90s, but recently has seemed tame and out of touch. Here's one angle that is intriguing, unexpected, makes a degree of sense (unless they fuck up the explanation) and actually has made people sit up and take notice. It has also got people talking about WWE again.
I gave it a :y: because it has ticked every box so far. It's the biggest angle I can remember in a long time. I just hope they manage to use it to build new stars because "Mr. McMahon" doesn't need the push or the coverage. I cannot believe, nor do I even want, Vince to stay off TV. Why kill off one of your most over characters (even if he has been excessively used in the past)? This is a who-dunnit and will almost certainly culminate in Vince returning in one piece, a la "Who Shot Mr. Burns?". However, I do hope they hold off with that for at least six months, if not longer.
But in the meantime, I'm the most interested I've been in years. Watch them fuck it up next week.

The angle has certainly caught my interest... and I haven't watched wrestling in 3 years. I just happened to be watching for the last half hour of that Raw.
The problem is, as pretty much everyone has mentioned, they'll screw it all up somehow. It'll go from "cool" to "stupid," like all the other shocking events that've happened.
But yeah, I voted :y:. :D

I don't at all care for them ringing the bell and all that as though he were really dead. Disrespectful to those who really have. But hopefully it will only have happened on ECW and maybe Smackdown this week and then they won't do that part again. If so, I'll be taking a "wait and see"-style attitude.
I'll still expect Rikishi to be responsible for it, though.

I don't really like it. Mostly I think it's stupid. Sure, it gets people talking and all, but meh...not a spot meant for pro wrestling, I don't think.
Sure, "it's just a TV show", but pro wrestling's always had that ability to walk fiction and non-fiction, with the exception of a few of the aforementioned other totally over-the-top angles. Then you always had the WWE claiming, "we don't have guys shoot each other, stab each other [done with Carlito and Cena back in '04, though], etc. etc., etc." Yeah...try claiming that now.
I also hope they realize the impact this has on their credibility for real deaths and the like. Sure, we as wrestling fans should know how it all works, but they do all these things to act like it's real. When all these referenced movie characters died in movies, did their movie deaths make the news? Did they fly flags at half mast for them? Was the next movie made dedicated to their memory?

I think the phrase "There's no such thing as bad publicity" is actually disproven by this. Most of the publicity I've seen are by haughty people using this as another condemnation of our "fake sport."
Which it is, by the way. It's fake. And over-the-top scenes like this won't get more mainstream people to watch, it'll just reaffirm that wrestling is for inbred retards.
