View Full Version : Promotion with the biggest ring...
Yeah, weird question I know, but I was wondering what promotion has/had the biggest ring? I count anything including Japan/Mexico and older promotions.
I'm guessing WWE has one of the bigger ones at 20x20 I believe.

WCW always bugged me with their small ring.
ECW's ring seemed alot smaller too.
ECW didn't run in huge arenas/football stadiums like WCW did. When WWE did the second One Night Stand and that ECW taping they brought their ring and it made the arena look smaller than it should have.
:y: BTW everyone.

Tazz talked about it on one of the alt commentary on Benoits DVD. He mentioned how Japan, WCW, ECW had the exact same size ring while WWEs was bigger.

I dont understand why WCW never used as big as a ring as WWE did.

I belive WWE is 24x24, WCW was 20x20, ECW was 18x18. Those may be off by an inch or so, but I think its right.

The rectangular circle?
They're filing it in HD, so on a regular TV it'll still look square.
Which is not to be outdine by TNA's new Dodecahedron "Ring."

Yea its WWE. RVD talks about it on his dvd too when talking about the adjustment to WWE. He talks about the van terminator and how it became harder.

If you are talking mat space, surely TNA's has got to be close, it looks quite big on tv.
As for why ECW, WCW used smaller rings, I guess Lucha matches can look more impressive. Plus smaller rings make people look bigger.
The old World of Sport rings were 15x15 but really high off the ground, they are solid as fuck and thr worst to bump in, but they gave the desired effect to the crowd

TNA's newest is the i-sided ring.
"THAT IS SO BIZARRE!"

Yeah, in terms of surface area, TNA might be up there, but I have no idea. Where would one find this information?

I once did the math and it was a few feet below WWE's.

I like the WWE's ring. I think it looks better, and if I was wrastlin', I'd like the space to use.
BTW, I've sorta got more praise for Shane McMahon now. He's Coastin' in the biggest ring out there ;)

The one thing I always noticed about WWE’s ring is that it’s a lot more springy than others, matching Mania 19 when Fred Durst is in the ring with those dancing girls, you can really see Fred bouncing from the little impact the dancer are giving the mat.
The ECW from memory didn’t have as much give, but the entire mat went up and down as a whole, rather than dip, like with the WWE ring, the whole structure went up and down
The WCW looks quite strong in retrospect as there appeared to be little give, perhaps there was loads of padding
Currently I’m using one with an air compressor in it, it’s great for the 1st bump, if you do 2 quickly the second one is like concrete

TNA's ring only looks bigger because of camera tricks. WWE does a lot of shots from further out, where you can see the whole ring, and the surrounding space. It allows perspective. TNA involves a lot of "in your face" shots, where they will be so tight to the ring, there is very little space showing (if any), or they will be so tight with the action you don't see much else. Given that you don't have any sort of perspecitve for an anchor, you look at it as larger. If you look at the two in comparable shots, they look to be roughly the same area. I don't know about Xero's math, because I'm lazy and hate math. But from a perspective PoV, I see what's happening.

That looked like a lot less when I was posting it. I should have broken that up a little. Bear with me, I'm feeling sick.
