I've been lurking this board for a couple of months now, just getting a gist (jist?) of the way people feel. I learned a lot from this place due to the incredible knowledge of people about this thing. I love it. Anyways, I want to get to the point.

Bret Hart, why is he so hated here? Personally, I love him. He's a great wrestler (I think) and he can really make it intense. I've seen him called ''whiny'' because he didn't like being robbed of the title in Montreal (I think that was the reason) I think anybody would be angry if they were cheated out of a title they said they would forfeit the next day.

Now I'm not trolling, I was just wondering.

Canadian wrestling fans tend to be as nationalistic as the American analogue. It's not to say it's always true, but especially when you're talking a Canadian wrestler.

People hate on Bret primarily because of Montreal and the screwjob, and both sides are largely retarded. Especially since for all the talk of how Bret can't let it go, he seems to be the one party who isn't whining about it.

Back to the question at hand, the main reason (at least for me) that people dislike Bret Hart is the fact that Montreal happened a decade ago, but he and his fans still bring it up. Granted, WWE does it as well (generally in a comedic sense), but it seems as though Bret has made an art form out of playing the victim.

Of course, he was screwed. Nobody doubts that. But there are some (I'm about half-and-half) who believe that Vince had to do it to ensure that the belt wouldn't wind up in the garbage can on Nitro like the Women's Title had. Hart is/was a man of integrity, but was his hatred for Shawn Michaels so great that he would still refuse to drop the title to him the next night? I (and others) honestly think it might have been.

It was one night in his illustrious career, but in interviews - when asked about his WWF experience - he doesn't talk about his five-star matches or his World Title reigns nearly as much as he does Montreal.

And that, to answer your question in a slightly obtusely roundabout way... is why.
