That it will also be released for consoles is less than promising. Makes me worried they'll fuck it up.

Here's hoping I'm wrong, and that it will be another masterpiece like the first two. (Fuck you, Nintendo 64 installment.)

Fignuts

Its being made by the same people who did oblivion, and thats awesome either on consol or PC, so I don't think you'll have to worry about that.

2 Does. Not digging it tbh. The view is abit weird, and I cant see the whole area well.

Indifferent Clox
07-23-2008, 06:58 AM
Oblivion was amazing, probably the top of my list atm. No doubt, but the level of fallout 3 looks to be much more tremendous.

actually my list for top 10 RPGs is

1. Earthbound
2. Oblivion and Morrowind
3. Fallout 1 and 2
4. Chrono Trigger
5. Deus Ex 1 and 2
HM to Jade Empire/ Kotor and the FF and Dragon warrior series

Adventure games are actually my fav genre

Sierra's games (kings quest, space quest, police quest, Leisure suit larry, etc.)
the lucas arts games (monkey Island Sam and Max)
and SHENMUE OMG
I mean myst and riven were great as well.. but too puzzily and not enough charecter ...

I don't know why I got on this

But Fallout may be the best RPG of all time.

GTA4 was amazing though, dunno if ti'll beat that

Just watched the X-Play special on this super hyped. Makers said the main story is about 25 hours, with the potential for 100+ with the side quests. And with as much random wandering as I plan to do I might be able to get 140 out of this bad boy.

Can't wait to get a 360.

Side note: The main quests on Fallout 1 and 2 were only like 10 hours too. So that isnt that odd.

Haha Hasney

I knew you were full of it. :p

Not really, I shall tell you how I did it below.

Basically, after you escape the vault you're looking for your father. Instead of doing that I was on a side quest to write a survival book. During the writing of the 3rd chapter, I decided to explore some memorial site and I found some holotapes that he had recorded. To get to that point would have apparantly taken 5 hours in itsself following the main quest.

I'm a massive Oblivion fan, but this is much better. Complete awesomeness.

Argh! I can only afford either this or Fable.

Which one do I get? :(

Well, which did you prefer out of Oblivion and Fable? They're both very similar to their predecessors so if you know the answer to that it should be easy for you.

If you haven't played one or both then Fallout 3 is the more hardcore game, combat is an in-depth experience using up your AP points and having to repair weapons all the time while Fable 2 is very friendly, there's not even a magic bar for spells, you just have to charge up higher level ones.

In terms of atmosphere, Fable 2 is a very interactive enviroment with lots of things going on and weddings, baby making and all this things to do, especially with your best buddy the dog. Fallout 3 feels like a desolate wasteland, which it's supposed to. Fable 2 also has an awesome sense of humor which is very British.

Overall, I'd say Fable 2 because it feels very much like a Zelda game with a lot of extras but they're both similar only in the fact they're called RPGs, they're completley different in every way really and in a lot of crucial design elements, they're polar opposites of each other.

Fable 2 has more replay value and the co-op sells it for me easily. But DLC could change that for either game.

They're both fantastic games though so if you just flip a coin, you can't lose.

Sooooooooooooooooooooo. Concerning the end of the game.

I've just finished the game, pretty fucken shit that you can't go do other quests after you've finished the main quest. As I was overwriting some of my previous saves, besides the final room, the last one I have was when I was getting the GOECK or whatever it's called, I have to do shitloads of the game again. I'm hoping I can not push the buttons at the end and will just turn around and go back to do some more quests.

#BROKEN Hasney
10-21-2008, 04:51 PM
Not sure on that one BC

I loaded a save just before starting the final mission and told the bitch I wasn't ready to go yet to do some more quests and half the fucking place was blocked off by the enclaves plasma walls so I couldn't do barely any of them. Not sure after the robot smashed them all up if you can actually go do other quests

I think there's 4 "different" endings, but only a couple of pictures change and the VO changes slightly, pretty gay.

Still a damn good game though, despite the main quest

Destor
10-21-2008, 05:23 PM
Yo BC, how many hours did you put in it before you beat it?

Bad Company
10-21-2008, 07:54 PM
30 odd hours inc a few side quests, but I bypassed some of the main quest the same way Hansey did, due to me wanting to do cool side quests and falling across more advanced main quest stuff along the way. Beware, if you compete the main quest it seems you are done for as far as completing any other quests go.

10-22-2008, 04:09 AM

IGN Review:

9.5 Presentation
The atmosphere and style are everything you could ask for and more. A few bugs and camera issues keep things from perfection.
9.0 Graphics
The landscapes are wonderful. The character models and animations could be a lot better.
9.5 Sound
Excellent voice acting and a soundtrack that completely fits the game's mood. The sound effects aren't bad either.
10 Gameplay
A rare combination of excellent combat and deep role-playing.
9.5 Lasting Appeal
A more focused experience than much of what Bethesda has created in the past that begs to be played for hours and hours. This is one game you won't soon forget.

9.6 Incredible OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

Small little tidbit you might find interesting.

Bethesda top brass orders all marketing pulled for Fallout 3. From trailers, banners, etc. Word is it's making some people in D.C. a little edgy.

Bethesda Pulls Fallout 3 Marketing 'In Connection with ESRB Guidelines'
by Blake Ellison Oct 27, 2008 6:36pm CST tags: Fallout 3, ESRB

Censorship and Bethesda's Fallout 3 (PC, 360, PS3) are good friends, and the two just got a little closer: Bethesda has asked gaming websites including Shacknews to pull all trailers for the open-world RPG.

The request came from Bethesda marketing VP Pete Hines in an e-mail which is reproduced below. The e-mail does not delve into the reasoning behind the decision, but says the request is "in connection with ESRB's advertising guidelines."

The move comes on the eve of Fallout 3's release, with thousands of retailers ready to start selling the game at midnight tonight, and follows a widely-reported public complaint regarding depictions of post-apocalyptic Washington DC in Fallout 3 ads.

The ESRB struck last year when news outlets including Shacknews were asked to remove trailers for D3 Publisher's Dark Sector, with the rating board citing "gameplay montages [which] have been deemed to contain excessive or offensive content."

The full e-mail from Hines follows:

In connection with ESRB's advertising guidelines, you are instructed to remove immediately any of our Fallout 3 trailers from your website, pending further notice.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Pete

Targeted the middle one for a grenade strike, with V.A.T.S, and watched as all five flew 15 feet in the air in slow motion. Fuckin' great.

Also, I was on a side quest that gives you an ally. Ran into some super mutants toward the end, and one jumped her while she was reloading. So I ran over with my sledgehammer, since I built my guy up to be a melee powerhouse, and swung for the fences. Aaaaaaaaaand struck a critical blow on my ally instead of the mutant. I chose to be good, so the first half was right, talking about me not giving in and all that shit. But for the sacrifice part, it said I'd refused to follow the father, despite me going into the control room and entering the code. And didn't even mention me not putting that virus thing in the water. Lame.

SO give me some tips on hacking.

Once I find a word that is like 4/7 I can figure it out, but how do you decide what your first guess is? Is there a way to narrow it down at first?

Like I log in, search for all the things that remove a bunk password, then kind of guess, and work from there.

D Mac

I just exit out before the terminal becomes locked out, and try again. You get all your chances back when you do this.

#BROKEN Hasney
11-10-2008, 11:58 AM
I usually don't look for the bunk password codes until I'm down to 1 chance because there is usually a code that also gives back all your chances.

UmbrellaCorporation
11-10-2008, 04:30 PM
I was under the impression that say, if you have a 3/7 word matchup, that 3 out of the 7 letters were in order.

When that happens, I usually look at suffixes. In my experience, if there are several words with 3/7 matching, I can bet it's usually something like "ing" at the end of it.

There a perk, perhaps Daddys Boy, or science nut or something, that after you get down to one chance, you can log off the PC, log back on, and it resets to 4.
Also, UC is corrent with the above.

Yeah, you can use a utility tunnel on the sidewalk near where the White House wreckage is blocked off, but I wouldn't recommend going this route unless you have a shitload of RadAway on hand, as it's one of the more lethal +XXX RAD/SEC areas of the game.

Also, in the "The Search For Cheryl" Mini-Encounter (Mini-Encounter 0.01), does anyone know where the third and final grave, that is supposed to be "directly northwest" of the Sewer Waystation, is? I've scoured the area to find it, so I could get the 3rd and 4th notes, leading to the Jury St. Metro Station Tunnel, as I am trying to get the only Super Mutant Behemoth to appear down there so I can kill it and get the "The Bigger They Are..." achievement for killing all 5 in-world SMB's. Got this game for X-Mas but only started playing it this weekend. Loving it so far.

Only problem is I'm finding it so FUCKING HARD! Ammo just doesn't last long enough or do enough damage to take things out without getting too close, and there seems to be plenty that can kill me if I try to take it out with a baseball bat. I found one house I can sleep in and I have to fast travel back there pretty much constantly to have a chance of not wasting all my stimpacks. Money seems relatively hard to come by as well, meaning even less ammo and stimpacks.

I like the way it has taken many of the best features of Oblivion, whilst still seeming completely different. I love the comparison between the thick, beautiful forests of Cyrodill and the bleakness of the Wasteland.

From IGN:

Your time in the nuclear wasteland will increase thanks to plans that Bethesda Softworks has to raise the level cap in Fallout 3, its acclaimed post-apocalyptic role-playing game. Lead producer Jeff Gardiner told Eurogamer in an interview that the company will boost the level cap from 20 to 30 in the upcoming Broken Steel downloadable content pack, which is due out in March.

Broken Steel is the third DLC pack for the game. The first, Operation: Anchorage, is due out this month, and it will let players experience the liberation of Alaska from Chinese forces. The second DLC pack, the Pitt, is due out in February and will let players explore the remains of Pittsburgh. Due to an exclusivity deal, the DLC will only be offered for the Xbox 360 and Windows versions of the game. Operation: Anchorage will cost 800 Microsoft Points on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

In addition, Broken Steel will also remove the game's ending, meaning that once you finish the storyline you will be able to continue to adventure around the wasteland. Currently, once you finish the game the credits roll and that's it. By removing the ending, Bethesda will let you work your way toward building a level 30 character.

Just be sure to not get too far into the main quest before doing the side quests because of the abrupt ending (you can't continue exploring etc once the main quest is done).. Not giving away too much I'll say don't go past the part where you go to the Citadel (Brotherhood of Steel fortress).. At that point all the sidequests can be accessed (including Going Home) so that's a good stopping point to try to leave the main quest to work on the side shit..

Fallout: New Vegas coming to consoles next year (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/20/fallout-new-vegas-coming-to-consoles-next-year/)

At a Bethesda press event in London today, our very own Jem Alexander learned (http://twitter.com/Yembles/status/1565305994) of a brand new addition to the Fallout universe. Fallout: New Vegas will be available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 next year, courtesy of Alpha Protocol developer Obsidian Entertainment (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/obsidian).

No other details have been revealed yet, but we're certain Jem will lockpick and hack his way to as much information as he can. We'll feed him to the mutants if he doesn't.

Update: The title is "just Fallout: New Vegas. No number. It's not a sequel." For those worried this non-numbered expansion would be a party game, fret not. It's "definitely an RPG," according to Bethesda VP Pete Hines. Obsidian Entertainment was founded by Fergus Urquhart who, along with a few other Obsidian guys, worked on the original Fallout. The team was approached by Bethesda and "jumped at the chance" to work on this new title.

Cocksucking microsoft.

Bought it for PS3, cause I was running out of room on my HD, and couldn't yet afford to expand it. Found out about the exclusive-DLC deal a few days after. They better release something for PS3 at some point.

Found DogMeat. He died 1 minute later, when he ran in front of me while I was firing a missle at a super mutant master. I am horrible at keeping followers alive. Doesn't help that they are fucking morons. Both dogmeat and alex died getting in my line of fire. Star Paladin cross was killed by yao guai, while I stood on the safety of some rocks and shot them. When I get my next one I'm just going to leave him armorless and weaponless at the deathclaw sactuary and get it out of the way.

Speaking of deathclaws, found my first one today. Saw a red blip on radar and danger icon. Calmly turned around expecting to find a yao guai, or radscorpion, or anything else that I was fully capable of dispatching at this point. Just about shit my pants when I saw the thing running toward me. Luckily the thing only had a quarter of it's HP as it must of got in a fight elsewhere. But still took a quarter of my HP before I could bring it down. Fucking 5 slashes from that thing could kill me.

Will creating another save file fix the glitch I'm having on the "Waters of Life" quest?

Long story short, after Dad dies and I try to leave the rotunda with Dr. Li, I enter the door, and the game freezes.. Apparently it's a widespread glitch, and I haven't gotten Broken Steel yet because of it. Should creating a new game fix it, does anyone know?

Avoid Giant Radscorpions, the Enclave, well armed bandits, Mister Gutsy's and Deathclaws.

Good news, there is an easy way to do this.

Bad news is that it's to sit in the vault forever, making the game a tad dull.

Nah, going to do weapons soon though. High def pack gives you a better looking map, and speech boxes. Which is enough for me.

At about level 9 now with 70 or so Energy Weapons, Got A3-21's plasma rifle a few levels back and am absolutely carving it, picked up wired reflexes at the same time. Sergeant RL-3 is making a great companion (target)

So I was playing and my game froze.
I turned the game off and let it rest for a bit and came a minute later.
Froze at the same spot. I try to turn it on again and I got the Red Rings of Death. I fixed it with the towel trick. Went back to play and avoided that area. A minute later, crash again. Red rings again. I fixed it again.
Weird part is I went back and played some of my other games and none of them froze up.
Anything similar happen to any of you guys? I have only had my xbox for a few months.

That Plasma rifle is the only energy weapon worth a shit..

Also, the next time I play, I'm going to count every time I find a book, so I won't level up past 74 on each thing (big guns, lock pick, etc).. There are 26 books for each thing so you can prolly get to one hundred on each one, if you watch your books and whatnot..

p.s. what is "the towel trick"??

Bad Company
05-11-2009, 05:50 PM
You also want to make sure you don't read any books until you have the skill that allows you to pick up 2 stat points every time you read it, rather than 1 (educated?).
The towel trick is to wrap a towel around your xbox and let it overheat, a very temporary fix to the RROD. You're better off sending it back and getting it fixed.

Kris P Lettus
05-11-2009, 05:52 PM
Yeah, forgot about that perk.. So you can righteously get 52 points per skill set, off of books alone.. Can def get to a hundred then..

Well, just played through Op.:Anchorage DLC (via a disc add-on rather than through XBL as I do not have it), and probably most of The Pitt. I just have kind of a nagging question in relation to [spoiler] the steel ingots. Are there 100 total no matter what, or when Everett makes you get your first 10, does that mean there was 110 total? The reason I ask is because I grabbed some of my first 10 from locations described in a text guide online, and have so far grabbed another 16, but am worried that I may not be able to retrieve all 100 now and get the cool swag for 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 Ingots collected, as well as the Millworker achievement.[spoiler] So if someone could put my mind at ease about this matter, I would really appreciate it.:-\

Yeah, I've heard about both of the aforementioned ones (Point Lookout & Mothership Zeta). Just wish my 360 was capable of connecting to the internet connection here so I wouldn't have to wait for all the good games with DLC to come out with the DLC on disk. Friggin sucks!

But a GOTY year is coming on disc in October, I believe.

If it was tilted, like as in standing vertically, instead of sitting horizontally, then, yes, you do owe him, as I'm sure you know by now how detrimental having the console in that position can be to any and all game discs.

Yeah, I thought this was coming out in October. Glad I was on the money with this. Definitely buying it. I have the expansions already, but it'll be so much more convenient to just have them on disc, instead of shitty downloadable cards that the codes do not work on (two of the FO3 ones I bought were this way). I did the same thing with Oblivion, and still love my GOTY edition.

Just now started on Broken Steel on 360, even after a month or so of having 4 of the 5 expansions installed via update disc...I wanted to complete side-quests and whatnot, in case at the end of BS, the ending becomes permanent again and you have to start all over. Got up to lvl. 25, hopefully playing through BS can get me to 30.

Also, if getting the "good/neutral/evil karma @ lvl. whatever" achievements (i.e., all three karma achievements for lvl. 30 and whatnot), I make it a point to save just before hitting the level for the achievements, that way I can level up to 30, get the achievement for good karma, lvl. 30, go back to the save file, level up again and repeat 2 more times, using the perks to reset karma to either neutral or evil.
