View Full Version : How do you feel about the way they're handling the Nitro/Punk feud?

I like that they're actually paying attention to it and giving it tons of air time...but I mean, this past ECW only had 2 new matches on it, and every single match on the show had at least one of them in it. I enjoyed the Nitro/Dreamer match VERY much. It made Nitro not look like a little bitch for once. Punk/Thorn was pretty much exactly what I expected. 'Perfectly acceptable wrestling', but nothing that blew my socks off. I was happy to see the Vengeance match, seeing as to how I missed the show, but it's kinda shitty of them to give it away for free.

I'm rambling, sorry, but I guess what I'm really getting at is are they over-hyping this feud? There are plenty of other talents on the roster that could be getting over, and they weren't even on the show (bar video promos for The Boogeyman and The Miz). Burke and Cor Von weren't even ON the show, which was really, really disappointing.

I'm done. What do you think?

Nobody watches ECW.

I would, if I got SciFi. Just to see Nitro and Cor Von at this point.

Yea I don't get SciFi either, not that I would watch ECW, but it may improve its chances.

I live in Canada, and I find it hard to believe ECW is even better than TNA, actually I know it's not, cause the few ECW's I have seen is why I dont bother to watch it.

It has gotten a lot better than when it started. Your short-sightedness is astounding.

.....there has to be at least one person who saw this week's ECW broadcast. I will wait patiently until he arrives to share his opinion.

Look, I've seen it a few times, and I was never impressed with any of the shows I seen, it's Smackdown Jr. I can't even sit through a whole RAW without being subjected to boring matches and gay segments, why Am I gonna make an effort to watch the "C Show" when the "B Show" sucks.

To be honest why do I want to watch another show with the same product with the smallers names and the second rate wrestlers? Now if they booked it differently than their 2 shows I would watch it, but they don't, so why would I bother?

Anybody Thrilla
07-05-2007, 02:06 PM
ECW's got a really fresh feel to it. Between Nitro, Punk, Burke, Cor Von, Thorn, Striker, and The Miz, there's a lot of potential for a lot of good matches and entertaining segments.

How would you prefer them to 'book it'?

I don't know, but it reminds me of Smackdown, with less effort.

I have an expanded basic plan; to get SciFi here you have to have a digital plan. And fuck that, the only thing I would watch that I don't get now would be ECW.

I didn't watch it, but I DVR'd it so I can fast forward everything that wasn't Nitro/Dreamer and Punk/Thorn.

I still hate out of everyone Punk could've picked to face Nitro, it was Tommy Jobber.

They should've made him face The Boogeyman or hell throw a swerve and have Punk pick Marcus Cor Von because that's probably one of the least likely people Punk would've selected.

There was only one thing that wasn't Nitro/Dreamer and Punk/Thorn, and that's the Punk/Nitro match from Vengeance.

Also, Nitro/Dreamer was an awesome match. I was pleasantly surprised.

Looking at ECW as strictly a 1-hour wrestling show, it is much better that those clusterfucks called TNA impact!.

As for the CM Punk/Johnny Nitro feud, so far it's good, and they've got two more shows before the PPV, so it can, and probably will, get better.

I forsee Elijah Burke getting the shot after Punk wins the title, Marcus Cor Von, I don't think will ever get a ECW title shot. They will probably move him to Smackdown at some point for a run at the World Heavyweight Title versus Edge. Just think of the Cutting Edge between the two!

As I posted in the ECW thread, I thought it was awesome. The Dreamer/Nitro was escellent, with the arm being focused on and Tommy selling it alright and I'm looking forward to this fued. I'm actually hoping it lasts longer than a month.

Also, ABT is right, ECW is the best wrestling show on TV right now, but I disagree with Punk not needing it. If he doesn't win a belt, he'll always look good, but not that good.

Anybody Thrilla
07-05-2007, 03:47 PM
I'm not saying Punk doesn't need it at all...I just don't want Nitro to drop the title in his first defense.

In Canada we get it Friday at midnight. Talk about a shit time slot. Not to mention that Smackdown is also on Fridays (8pm). Three hours of, pretty much, non exciting wrestling is too much.

If I'm at my girlfriend's and we're not doing anything, I'll watch it, but I haven't been too impressed.

Honestly, I find Impact a lot better.

I saw the show. Nothing spectac.

I think it's good that they're giving these two guys so much airtime. After all the bullshit with Lashley and McMahon trading the belt, and then Benoit no-showing the title match at Vengeance, and then the reasons reavealed afterward, the ECW Title has been through hell lately.

This is a decent attempt to give the belt some credibility, and it helps push Nitro and Punk, two of WWE's best looking up and comers.

Still, Impact is far better than ECW on Sci-Fi.

Oh yeah, a world title match with nine guys running in is so much better than a solid one on one match with no incidents.

Nitro needs a midget sidekick named Thunder.

They should tag as World's Classiest Wrestlers.

I'm really hoping the WWE doesn't fuck this fued up. It has the potential to be a great, but this is the WWE. So far it's been solid, and as long as they keep Nitro V Punk 1 on 1 matches sparce (a.k.a just on PPV or whatever) It should be good. I'm hoping that down the line they add Elijah Burke into it as well. Make either Elijah or Nitro a tweener and you've got a solid little fued to keep the Main Event of ECW going for at least 5 - 6 months. Burke w/Cor Von as the Heel, Punk as the face, and Nitro being a cocky does what he wants tweener would definatly be very entertaining.

I like it

and I agree with ECW being the best wrestling show on right now

Maluco

On topic, yeah, I think you are right. The two need to be showcased, yes, and that is difficult to do in an hour timeslot, as well as keep other talent on the screen, but I think Cor Von and Burke are easily as big prospects as Punk/Nitro and the least they could have done was ditch the title match replay, just show the end/how it happened and thrown in a Burke/Von vs Boogeyman/Richards tag match, or something like that.

So, in finally answering the topic, yes, they are overhyping the feud, and the brand will hurt because of it, but at the same time, I sypathize with only having an hour to work with.

I totally agree. I like the way they're building it. I think Nitro is still a tad bit raw on the mic, but he's almost there. His timing seems a bit off sometimes. I think ECW needs another hour. To many real good talents that they've did a good job building that cant get time.

Problem is. WWE doesnt want them to be the best show. So it wont happen. But man i love Thorne, Burke ( alot ) , Punk and Nitro. Thats a really good young nucleus of main even caliber wrestlers.
