No fucking way. It might only be good if they have the original people doing the voices.

Jason Lee as David Seville.
He is as perfect for that role as Patrick Stewart was for Professor X.

Was part of hubbards vision to do with chipmunks? It's the only reason I can think he's doing this

...what
Source: Foxnews.com
-Currently in production, "Alvin and the Chipmunks" has begun to worry some Hollywood higher ups, says an insider. Director Tim Hill's vision is slightly skewed from what the original chipmunk trio was all about. The premise running around Hollywood is that Mr. Seville is now a coke pedalling drug dealer in Los Angeles, and the Chipmunks act as his distributors. But when Alvin's secret addiction sends him spiraling out of control and (SPOILER!) he kills Simon, only Mr. Seville and chubby Theodore can stop him. Tim Hill merely commented that "it's 2007. People don't want to see singing chipmunks. They want blood. I'm giving them blood. It's gonna be a very merry fucking Christmas."
More to come.

The part of Alvin going semi-scat kind of was a gross out moment, but meh...
...going to be fair here, doesn't look TOO bad in terms of actual animation. The 'Munks should be bigger, though, to match the actual height of the cartoon show, I think.
Can someone fill me in on what the plot is going to be (if it was released what it will be yet)?

IMDB doesnt really give a good plot outline...from looking at the trailer I would assume this...
The Chipmunks have been out of the spotlight for a while so they decide to make a comeback. This movie will be about them trying to make it to the top once again.

Yeah, it doesn't look like they're going to be gangster like the poster suggests, and it's the original voices...I'm feeling better about this flick.
I do agree the chipmunks should be a bit taller though.

I think this will work. They have the original actors to do the voices again and Jason Lee should make a great Dave.

I now understand the premise of the movie, they're going to try all of these different styles to get back to the top - rap, punk, etc. Only to realise that it's just not them as they fail time and time again, they'll go back to the origional formula and be wildly successful again.
