View Full Version : Tag Teams should have Real Names
I don't know, but I think that if you are a regular Tag Team constantly wrestling with the same partner in a division, you need a Tag Team name. You shouldn't be coming out every week with just your name and partners...I don't think it makes you look as strong of a unit.
For instance, Brian Kendrick and Paul London. Great tag team, held the belts for one year, but still no team name. I heard somewhere they were called "Londrick" but I think that's a corny ass name taking in place of not having one.
Same with Cade and Murdock. These are 2 men with an actual gimmick, and still haven't gotten a name for their team. You have a choice of so many country related names, but they never come up with one. These guys are also the Tag Champions, and have been teaming for some time now and really should have one.
Oh, and if a company owns your name and you need a new one...pick a good one for Gods sake. LOD were the Roadwarriors everywere else, and it worked. However, 2 of my favorite teams that had some awesome names, and they picked ones I absolutely hate. First is Team 3D. Really, I don't like any tag team that starts their name with "Team". I don't mind Hardy Boyz using that, but that's because I refer to them as Hardy Boyz and not Team Extreme. When it comes to Team 3D, they were once "The Dudley Boyz". A cool name for a great team. Now that they choose a new one, the choose the generic version of the one in WWE. I don't know, might be too much to nitpic, but I would have thought it was cooler if they were just called "3D" nice.
Then you have the New Age Outlaws...not Voodoo Kin Mafia. WTF? Other than the obvious hint at Vincent Kennedy McMahon, it's stupid as hell and now the name they will be known as outside of WWE. When they were the James Gang...hey, it's a cools sounding name that gives hint to the old Outlaws name. It definately worked, but now gave it up for dumb gimmick by vince Russo.
So yea, I think all tag teams should have real names, and that tag teams that need new ones should give some thought to it rather than throwing it together. But hey, that's my opinion...I could be wrong... [/Dennis Miller]
Oh, and I'm throwing The Basham Brothers, now just Doug Basham and Damanja to the list.

I've heard Cade and Murdoch referred to as The Red Neck Wrecking Crew.

^ That's not their proper name though. I'm not too bothered about tag team names, though the only proper one i can think of in WWE atm is the worlds greatest tag team, but that sort of name shows you they're having a hard time coming up with new ones.

I thought London and Kendrick were "The Hooligans"?

I honestly at the time liked the name because as dumb as it was, it was also genius. They were at the time Kurt Angle's former hand picked men, they were the Tag Team Champions, and they were comprised of 2 extremely good wrestlers who worked very well together. Now that they are constantly jobbing, the name doesn't live up, but it was good for it's time.

I very rarely catch Smackdown, but never heard them referred to as such.

They sometimes refer to them as the Hooligans but mostly London and Kendrick

"The Brothers Of Destruction" - Do they use that? Or do they still say Kane and Undertaker?

I never really considered them a real Tag Team...just 2 main eventers who team up now and again because of being on screen brothers. Though yes, when they tag together they are called the Brothers of Destruction (I've know JR and Cole to use the term).

Sometimes it's hard to find a name that works. Look at Kane & X-Pac. Or Kane & Hurricane. Or Kane & RVD. Or Kane and Big Show. Or Kane & Mankind. (Damn, Kane's had a lot of Tag Team partners.)
Well that's why I didn't say every tag team, but the real ones. Anyone who is well established as a single star and is only teaming up to further a feud or just to have something to do till a new storyline comes in, I don't consider a real time. Like Kendrick and London I would have considered a short term team, but have since been together for a long enough period of time as an exstablished team that they should have a name now. Same with Cade and Murdock.

I think it kind of depends on the tag team, to be honest. "Londrick" and "The Hooliganz" are shit names, and I'd rather just see them stay as London & Kendrick, respectively, if that is the case. "High Voltage" isn't really a bad team name, as it is a throwback to Kendrick's ROH days. I don't know what else they could use, to be honest.
Team 3D and Voodoo Kin Mafia are indeed shitty names. "3D" would have been so much better, and The James Gang was certainly stronger than the VKM name.
Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch have "The Redneck Wrecking Crew" alias. They were known as "TNT" in OVW (I think it was OVW, anyway) for a while, but that trademark seems pretty loose.
I welcome tag team names, just as long as the name is good, and it helps the team, rather than hinder them.

I've heard Cade and Murdoch referred to as The Red Neck Wrecking Crew.
This I had also heard. However, I doubt they'd have sense to stick with such a good team name.
BTW, JTKool, all those names you mentioned were kinda owned by the WWE. Trademarking and all that. If the Dudleys were smarter, they would have trademarked the name themselves instead of relying on the word of the of the oh so business knowledgeable Paul Heyman.
Well I know Dudley Boyz, Bashem Brothers, and New Age Outlaws are owned by WWE. If the teams owned them and didn't use them outside the WWE, a TNA crowd member should throw a brick at them. Just saying that they could have given some thought to a new team name once leaving...and more pissed at the Outlaws because I was quite fond of calling the "The James Gang". The names they have now though I can't stand...though is seems anytime a decent start enters TNA, they start making terrible decision (but that's another story).

High Voltage was already a jobber team in WCW, by the way. Kenny Kaos and Rocky Rage, or something to that effect. If WCW Saturday Night had a tag team championship exclusively for that show, they would be cham--....well, they would be in contention for the championship often, but still lose every time.

First of all, "HurriKane" was awesome.
Secondly, I thought London and Kendrick were "Team Shenanigans".

Team Shenanigans had better not be their name, or I am no longer a fan.

LOL Shenanigans is the most unimposing name ever. Like they need something to make them look like bigger pussies.

As somebody already mentioned, the name TOTALLY worked when they first came up with it. Actually, didn't they first start calling themselves The Best Damn Tag Team Period?

Well, the dudleyz don't look like Boyz now anyway, Bubba is like 10 men alone. So Team 3D is probably more better. tho where is the 3rd D?!?!?! - Getting caned by bigger men as usual I guess, but they still have "awesome power".

I agree, it makes the team seem like they weren't just two jobbers thrown together for a tag team.

Techno Team 2000 had a name, but they still sucked. Well Dunn had a name (a pretty cool name, actually), and they still sucked. High Voltage, The Conquistadors, Los Boricuas, American Males, etc. all had names, but they all sucked. It's really not the name that makes the team.
Also, I think 'Cade and Murdoch' has a nice ring to it for some reason.

Yes, I agree. Tagteams need a team name if for nothing else, it add color to the team. Bradshaw and Farqooc just isn't the same as APA.
