View Full Version : Did anybody else prefer the Booger Red Undertaker over the Deadman?

I was digging through some unmarked tapes last night and I just happened to stumble across Wrestlemania X-8. Pretty amazing how many feuds I had forgotten, but regardless, I'm watching The Undertaker v. Ric Flair right now, and I think that was the only time I ever really enjoyed The Undertaker. I especially liked him when he was the Undisputed champ. Just straight vicious. Also, I loved that theme music (before they went and put those stupid lyrics in). I remember people wishing badly that he would go back to The Deadman like he eventually did, but I wish he would go back to the vile, methodical bad ass.

Thoughts?

Meh, Undertaker vs Flair and the ladder match against Hardy were the only two things I enjoyed about that whole heel run. I never bought the whole "you will respect me," inferiority complex Undertaker.

And you 'buy' the whole zombie thing?

Oh wait, him beating Hogan's ass at that time was also really cool.

Of course, as soon as he started going after Hogan, he sort of became a face in my mind, so that's probably why I forgot about that.

I've never had a problem "buying" that whole gimmick. It's always just been too well done for me not to. Fuck, I started marking out for the man the second he showed up in 1990.

Now that you mention it...that was about the time I really started to like him. I REALLY wanted him to beat Hogan, and after he did, I guess I was just so happy that it may have made me a bigger fan. Interesting.

However, I know I definitely did not want Jeff Hardy to beat him in that ladder match.

If you're going to buy a zombie over a guy who wants to be respected, then I just don't know what to say to you, good sir.

I didn't want Hardy to win... but I wanted to believe that he could. And I did, for a few seconds anyways. That was probably Jeff's best performance ever, or one of them.

I'll agree with that, totally. Loved that match. I was seriously worried that Hardy would take it.

I enjoyed his heel run as Booger, will always prefer 90's Deadman though.

"I'll make you famous."

Yeah that Taker was way better, looking back. On WWE programming here in the UK, we have these things called 'From the Vault' where in the middle of a Raw (not the live showing) or Smackdown they'll show an old match from a few years ago (because we don't have as many commercial breaks as you do in the States so Sky need something to fill up the 2 hours).

And they showed Undertaker vs Randy Orton from a Smackdown in 2002 a few weeks ago, and it seemed weird seeing the Undertaker talk on the mic just like a normal person, no freaky eye and tounge, or Rest In Peace shit.

Yeah, I'd prefer that back.

If you're going to buy a zombie over a guy who wants to be respected, then I just don't know what to say to you, good sir.

The problem I had with the whole "respect me" thing was that it came after a year and a half of him standing up to the biggest guys in the company, not backing down from the likes of HHH, Austin, Rikishi (</>:shifty:</>), standing up to pretty much the whole Alliance, suddenly he turns to beating up the likes of Maven and RVD, and behaving like a bitch while doing it. I'll buy a fantastical character pretty easily, but if you want to present someone as "realistic," then keep it consistent.

Also, how does a guy who runs around demanding respect settle for wrestling a stoner for a joke of a title on the same PPV where the first ever Undisputed Championship is being decided?

That shit was always so corny to me, even as a kid. I remember being 'scared' of him at first when he was feuding with Hogan, but I think I lost a lot of interest around the time he feuded with Kamala (who I never thought had a chance of beating him) and I TOTALLY lost interest when he was feuding with King Kong Bundy and Money Inc. (the stable, not the tag team). Then he had a feud with Yokozuna that I also didn't give a fuck about, and every single story for all of those feuds were stupid as fuck. It probably tarnished him in my eyes forever.

I will admit he was kinda cool as the head of The Ministry of Darkness, though.

What PPV are you referring to?

What PPV are you referring to?

Vengeance 2001. Angle, Jericho, Austin, and the Rock were all in the Undisputed Title tournament; meanwhile Undertaker is up against RVD for the Hardcore title.

I thought it was a good gimmick but I've always preferred the Deadman Undertaker.

Anybody Thrilla

That's one PPV that I've always wanted to see that I didn't for some reason.

Anyway, pretty sure that was a feeble attempt to give some credibility to the Hardcore title, and I think he was sweet when he held it.

The face version of Booger Red didn't do it for me, though. Brothers of Destruction? Fuck outta here.

I especially liked how he'd hang it around his neck while riding to the ring. :D

But feeble really is the word for it; actually that whole PPV was pretty feeble overall. The Undisputed Title concept really should have been built up better than it was.

At least Jericho won it.

Yeah, I'm still watching the show right now, and it has been thoroughly unimpressive.

No complaints here. Out of those four guys, he was definitely the best choice.

No way what about Hall vs Austi-

Well, Booker T vs Edge was pretty... ummm...

Kane vs Angle... hm, no.

Rock vs Hogan was... ok it was a nostalgia pop fest.

Yeah, you're probably right about that.

Also, Taker vs HHH was probably my favorite WM17 match.

I've always said I enjoyed it. The whole "deadman" thing doesn't do it for me. And every single fued is played out the same.

The Bad Ass was cool coz it was more real. He could feel pain. At times he would get his ass kicked. He didn't have lightning shoot out of his hands etc.

Also, I agree that his match with Flair at Wrestlemania 18 and his Ladder Match with Jeff Hardy were great... but everyone's forgetting the match that in my opinion topped them both...

No Mercy 2002 - Undertaker VS Brock Lesnar - Hell In A Cell.

That match was awesome and had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning. Definitely one of the best Hell In A Cell matches.

Anyone is better than Cena, but I started playing HCTP again. And oh my gawd, Taker on his bike made me mark out

Rock/Hogan was a great match too though... HHH/Taker was amazing but the shitty chokeslam spot sucked. Plus Austin/Rock is my favorite match maybe ever so I can't agree with you on that one. Plus the TLC... WM 17=Greatest ever

I always thought Rob Van Dam VS William Regal was a good match... Sure they were only given 10 minutes, but it was still a great match.

I thought it was the most violent HIAC match out them all. Christ even Heyman got busted open.

On the Taker vs Flair feud, anybody remember Taker ambushing David Flair and giving him an absolute hiding to provoke Flair into fighting him at WM18. Awesome segment that.

Undertaker is awesome. :)
