Can somebody explain the difference to me and which is better?

Do you mean vs. DVD, or HD DVD?

Blu Ray is superior in terms of storage capacity, and can deal with higher definition videos, meaning you get superior picture on an HDTV. I doubt you'll notice on an older TV though. DVD is dine, but has a lower resolution image that needs to be upscaled to look good in HD.

Which is better? Blu Ray is technically superior in every way except depth of placement of the actual data surface (A step backwards).

It's also superior to HDDVD. It holds more, etc. Both HD formats are more expensive, though, and significantly so.

Agreed. But I'm hearing that HDDVD is going to get a serious tune-up real soon. I read somewhere it's supposed to have online capabilities and other goodies.

So there's no point in switching to blue ray if you have just a regular tv, not HD?

Yup. No sense in having a High def. DVD player if you don't have a High def TV.

I've read that, but I don't know if it's real.

I'm still thinking HD is going to be the format. But Blu Ray is superior.

Then again, so was BETAMAX. So superior doesn't always equal winner.
