When the fuck did Angle become IWGP champion?

I havnt watched wrestling for a few months, and suddenly I turn on TNA and Kurt ngle is IWGP champ. And he beat Brock Lesnar. What in fucks name was new japan thinking letting him hold the belt again. Why was Nagatas reign so damn short? What the fuck is going on here?

Brock kept IWGP's actual title belt because they "owed him money", he then jobbed to Kurt Angle for the title belt at a show. I don't think Kurt is accepted as the IWGP champion though?

The thing is that apparently New Japan and TNA have some sort of agreement. If this wasn't New Japan approved that's going to hurt TNA. That's why I think this is at least partially worked.

Yeah, it'd be pretty stupid of TNA to feature the title if New Japan were against it.

Yuji Nagata is still the Champion. Kurt Angle won the belt from Brock Lesnar, who showed up in Antonio Inoki's new promotion, claimed he was still Champion because he never lost the belt, and was then defeated by Angle. An MMA match between the two was then teased.

I'm still thinking NJPW might run a Nagata/Angle match over who is the real IWGP Champ. Especially since Angle has been quoted in the past about wanting to wrestle Nagata because of his amateur wrestling background. Its an easy fit seemingly.
