It appears the WWE SummerSlam Anthology DVD set, which was already in production, appears to be on hold for the time being. According to reports, WWE is currently trying to decide how older footage of Chris Benoit will be utilized, if at all, on future WWE DVD releases from the company including this big SummerSlam DVD release. We hope to have more on this situation soon.
Now there were no sources (well duh, it was posted by Matt Bonehead), but this wouldn't surprise me at the least. And it would seriously suck ass if it were true. I mean to edit about 5-6 Summerslam's to edit out every match and the slightest mention of Benoit would seriously sour me on purchasing these kind of box sets.
I mean I can handle them blurring the old scracth logo, muting people saying "WWF", and even the alterations to some entrance music. However, to edit out matches regardless if it had Benoit in it, would be moronic as it defeats the whole purpose of these Anthology box sets, an idea which I love. I can understand them leaving out Benoit matches in compilation since those are, of course, a mixture of matches.
This was originally posted on PWInsider.
But yeah, it's pretty shitty and if they do it I may skip the set.

Agreed. Time to stock up on DVDs already on sale before things get even more stupid I think. There's gotta be a limit to how far they go.

Considering Benoit matches were usually the matches that glued the entire PPV together.

Plus he main evented Summerslam 04, would be interesting how they would work around that one.

It's true, there should be a limit on what restrictions they put on Benoit related material.
I can understand them having him removed from Raw vs. Smackdown 2008.
I can understand them not making any more figures of him.
But to remove every match of his from every single classic PPV release is really pushing it.

gay. Although I don't buy these Anthologies. The idea is great and it's something I wanted forever, but all this editing and other crap has killed it for me.
I'll stick to my VHS ones for now

I agree, this is pushing it and they aren't doing themselves any favours. If they really want us to skip the DVD set, then they can go the fuck ahead with their stupid idea.

Oh, FFS. They'll lose like four fans.
Almost nobody is gonna skip these sets because Benoit's not in them. Wrestling fans are, by and large morons who can't seem to stop supporting the programming no matter what.

What are they going to do for Randy Orton's eventual DVD? Show his entrance at Summer Slam, then show a match against Booker T on Smackdown, then show him holding the belt at the end of Summerslam? Why, that idea is fool proof. Seamless... :shifty:

I think they'll come to the conclusion that they can't COMPLETELY edit out Benoit without harming the product quality. They may indeed not lose fans, but the WWE at least usually know how to produce a good DVD. I'd imagine they'd edit him out where it was easy enough to do but leave him in for stuff like main events... But then again, they're re-writing history on .Com, so who knows...

Damn you Benoit, now you are ruining WWE product even more.

and there is almost no DVD they can't produce without Chris Benoit. the quality will not be affected, or will be affected marginally so, so little nobody will notice or care.

Just glad the Royal Rumble set came out before Benoit did this shit.

Does WWE ever learn their lesson? Remember Lex Luger?

I said I hope.
I also hope that I discover that some as yet unknown great uncle of mine buried a fortune in gold and left a treasure map in a safe-deposit box that only I may open.
I'm neither expecting nor counting on either of those things.

I hope one day you will grow up to be a little more realistic.
