I was bored, so I managed to hook up the phonograph player in the cabinet in my room to my stereo. Now my stereo system includes:
60 CD player
2 cassette players
1 turntable
1 8 track player (built into the phonograph)
which pretty much covers every medium of recorded music ever made.

How'd you get the turntable hooked up?

very carefully ;)
Nah...I had a dual RCA jack (red/white/yellow) cord...plugged it into the back of my stereo...and into the back of the turntable/8track (its both ;))
Then found the right setting on my stereo... and BAM! use for all the Elvis vinyl that's collecting dust in this house.

Being that nearly everyone in my house is a musician, there is a huge inventory of all forms of audio receivers. My dad, who has been collecting junk and playing music his entire life, certainly holds his end of the bargain.
Aside from 2500+ vinel records and close to a dozen turntables to go with them, there is a massive amount of handheld casette tape players, plenty of portable stereos, RCA units, amplifier heads, masses of speakers, a handful of stereo receivers, a PA system, half a dozen guitar amplifier combos, a fair amount of discmans and stationary CD players, more speakers, and then his assortment of antique radios. Throw in any other audio devices... more than 20 TVs, only five of them in use, two DVD players, a bunch of walkie talkies, his collection of every audio cable known to man, CB radios, craploads of VCRs, 8-track recorders, 8-track players, several audio recording devices including a 3 head tape recorder and mixer, dozens of telephones, more speakers....
well shit there isn't a whole lot that we don't have, without getting too extravaggent. My dad stopped hoarding shit a couple years back when he realized that we are ****ing poor and my mom's been recently selling a lot of it on eBay. There is still a lot of potential money to be made but my dad won't give a lot of it up. Close to a thousand video tapes and nearly 3,000 vinels? Yeaaaaah... nevermind all the other stuff my dad collects.

It's not all that hard to hook up a turntable.
I have one down here on my stereo setup.
I use it to capture rare vinyl on CD.

That's whyt I did it mainly..once I go to Radio Shack and get a dual 1/8" plug cord to plug into my sound card and headphone jack I'm going to start making CDs out of old cassettes and vinyl.
