Further proof that Wii will totally own this console generation. My request: include every track from every game, or atleast faves like how MK:DS has it. This is one of those games they announce and you think, "No way in Hell am I not buying this."

Wii-Wheel looks alittle small... I'll be playing with a Gamecube Wavebird, thank you.

HOLY FUCKING CHRIST, THE ORGINAL MARIO KART IS 15 YEARS OLD?

Well i feel old as fuck over that.

But yea, Wii is coming out with some pretty ill creations lately, seems like all the accessories from Wii are actually worthwhile and pretty cool. The Wii Wheel sounds funny on a side note.

Good stuff

Yeah I'll probably end up just using a Wavebird as well, so pumped about this game though. Wonder if they'll have downloadable older tracks available on the Wii Shop or w/e.

I just hope there are more tracks, and they add to the game. Not too much, but enough for it to feel like there's more to it. As much as I love Mario Kart, I want more tracks. I can't wait for this game.

Wouldn't mind it like MK:DS. Having some tracks from each game on this one, plus shit load more for this one. Hopefully it is interesting and keeps me going cause after awhile Double Dash just got way to easy for me, which annoyed me cause my friends always wanted to play.

Well I have some screens and some info on the game, so here you go.Characters will have customised cars like we saw in the trailer but it looks like they may have more than one. In the trailer, Wario has a hot rod style car but in these screens he has a car with bull horns on it.

http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/8936/news111007mkart6gw4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://www.vooks.net/images/kart4.jpg

It's not going to be just kart racing now. They just confirmed motorbikes.

http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/1041/news111007mkart4rd5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/7614/news111007mkart3dp0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Peaches bike looks different in each of the above screens so I dont know if each character will have more than one bike as well as multipile cars or maybe just one or the other.

Retro tracks will be in the game, apparantly:

http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/1269/news111007mkart5sq9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Anyway, I think the game looks pretty good. According to some American magazine called "Gamepro", Reggie Fils-Aime is supposed to have hinted at the possibility of MK: Double Dash style gameplay as well. I don't know how reliable Gamepro is.

Gamepro is immature garbage. I stopped reading it about a decade ago and never looked back. EGM since the '98 10-page cover story on FF8 and I've grabbed one every month since.

This week's Famitsu magazine has the latest tidbits on Mario Kart Wii. The game will include the wheel controller which was first revealed in last year's E3 press conference.

Players can now choose between karts and bikes to race, and each will have its advantages and disadvantages. With bikes, you can perform wheelies to speed up but this also makes turning more difficult. Both karts and bikes also now allow you to perform tricks in midair by turning the wheel left and right, or by moving the wheel up and down. Pulling them off successfully will reward players with a speed boost upon landing.

The game will feature 16 new tracks and 16 remake tracks from previous Mario Kart titles. As for multiplayer battle stages, 10 stages will be included. Players can compete against each other in races and battles with up to 4 players in split screen mode and up to 12 players via Nintendo's Wifi Connection service. You can also use your Mii as a playable character when meeting certain conditions during the game.

Lastly, there will also be a Mario Kart Channel dedicated to the game, allowing players all over the world to compete in global rankings and download ghosts of other players.

Mario Kart Wii hits stores in Japan on April 10. A North America release date has yet to be pinned down but should follow close behind.

F'n sweet. I need a Wii ASAP. Missing too many greats.

Just had a funny thought on this. Imagine someone plays this in their car with the Wii Wheel. You pull up next to them and see like 2 or 3 people in a car twisting wireless wheels. Would be pretty freaking awesome on road trips.

I've heard from a few previews that the game doesn't look nearly as nice as it should. Let's just hope gameplay wise it makes up for it. I love that it'll keep stats. I love random stats in games. I hope they have ridiculous ones like "green turtle shells fired" and "green turtle shells that hit opponents".

Battle Mode screenshot (containing a character spoiler,if you look carefully) and some news.

Here is an image of the Mario Kart battle mode. Taking place in Delfino Square, this is one of ten battle arenas in the game and sees Mario (red balloons) taking on the likes of Toad, Wario and Luigi (blue balloons).

As you can see it is a timed event and whoever is left with the highest score at the end of the battle will win.

In other Mario Kart news, it has been revealed that the MK wheel will be available to purchase seperately in the shops. Only the Japanese price has been confirmed so far though and its 1,200 yen. That's around £6 but we don't know how much it will actually cost in UK stores.
http://medialib.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/screens/screenshot_7077.jpg

There has been a bit of confusion surrounding Mario Kart Wii and text chat possibilities. Yesterday, reports on various websites suggested that you would be able to create rooms for friends to join and text chat while waiting for other racers. However, this is misleading.

See, while there will be text chat, you can only send pre-determined phrases to fellow racers.

Still, it's not a big deal. Text chat could just result in peurile insults being flung about. Not something we're keen on while trying to focus for the big race. What do you think?

Just got the latest Official Nintendo Magazine a few days ago. They gave MKWii 94% which means they gave it a gold award.

They say, in the review, that you can play using the wii remote/steering wheel or the remote & nunchuck or the GC controller. I never knew that.

They also say snaking has been taken out. They say this is because you don't have to move the control stick left and right during a powerslide to get a boost now because the boost is determined by how long you slide. So you slide and get blue sparks and eventually get red sparks if you hold the slide long enough.
Meaning that any advantage snaking has (or had) has been taken away.

I like this because I was never fond of snaking but I know a lot of people use it as a technique.

The review also says that stunts can be performed anytime all your vehicles wheels are off the ground and not just when you go of a huge ramp. Tricks are done by flicking the wheel and give you a boost.

Apparantly, the difference between karts and bikes are that bikes can only get blue sparks and not red sparks when powersliding but they can perform wheelies on straights which give them a boost.

If anyone wants to know about something else, ask and I'll flick through the review and see if the answers in there.

Too be fair, although it’s a Nintendo mag, they are very fair with the reviews, it’s an all UK team doing the review and they have given some Nintendo produced games some pretty bad reviews

They gave Mario Party 8 69% for example

And Paper Mario got an 81%

Generally they are inline with what the rest of the reviewers give games, and they do have a declaration that although they are a Nintendo mag, they remain impartial with the reviews. I’ve had a subscription for 6 months now and so far I think the review section is very fair.

Plus there’s been times where other mags have given games a higher rating, like with No More Heroes, they gave it an 89%, but I think IGN gave it 94%, so they really don’t oversell the games

So, I went to the "tournement" (it was really just a glorified time-trial) yesterday and got a chance to have a few races. Bear in mind that I only had a chance to play 4-player multiplayer and we had to stick to Lugi Circuit.

First off, the graphics do resemble Double Dash level graphics. Donkey Kongs model in particular was pretty "jagged" and poor. It still colourful and everything but in the 4 races I had on the same circuit, it did look like DD graphically. This could be because it was 4-player. Single player may look better.

Gameplay was fun as always. A new thing in the game is the drift option. When you select your character and vehicle, you get a choice between Automatic and Manual. For three races, I tried Automatic and it didn't feel right not being able to powerslide at will. I couldn't figure out how to do it in Automatic. I'm assuming I'd have had to turn the wheel to an extreme degree.
The one time I chose Manual I heard people behind me say "Who picked manual!? you're not allowed to pick manual! Who picked manual!?".
Manual made the game much better. The weapon button does change though. In Automatic, the B button is used to fire weapons but in Manual, B is to hop (you hold it and turn the wheel to slide) and the D-pad is for firing forward or back.
The game has what looked like a file select screen. If it was a file select screen, there are four save files available. What leads me to think it was a file select screen was that it had a shot of the players Mii and across the top of the small box it had a list of the different cups and down the left side it had 50cc, 100cc etc. Each of the four files had that so I'm sure it was a file select. We only saw it for a few seconds when someone accidently pressed "back" on the main menu.

The Wheel itself works well enough, it doesn't feel cheap and plasticy and the buttons used in the game are easy to reach and it's very comfy to hold. The 2 button is accelerate and you, supposedly, flick the wheel upward to do tricks but I could never pull it off. Flick the wheel upwards when you ride a bike and it does a wheelie which should give you a boost (the wheelie boost replaces the powerslide boost in bikes because bikes can't powerslide.)
Once you get used to the wheel, it's enjoyable.

Overall, the game seems fun even if this rundown seems a tad negative, it was the circumstance I played it under.
It was way too crowded and it was a case of jumping in the deep end, right into competition rather than having time to get used to it. Plus I had a group of cocky twats behind me ridiculing everyones every move, despite the fact that two of the people I played against that day where young children. The kids where actually better than a few of the older people there actually.

If the game is played in your own enviroment, in your own time I'm sure it would be great.

You already got it?

Yeah, was leaked onto the internet on Monday night :)

Anyways, the reason it so cheating is for the 5th time in a row I have had such a lead no-one could catch me, not even with a blue shell, so I get hit with a POW block.... No big deal, can still win.... Blue shell.... Still winning. RED SHELL JUST AS I HIT THE GROUND AND I FINISH 6TH.

That exact combo.... 5 times.... Different tracks. Jesus, I didn't think they would make it more of a cheating bastard, just kept it the same.

As for online play, I had one game before they took the servers down and a 10 player match was smooth as hell. It shows everyones Mii waving from the country they're in before the race starts. Shame you can't talk to anyone :(

Really enjoying it at the moment, steering wheel takes a while to get used to so I'm playing it without the wheel.
Killing it off at 50cc.

Done all the cups on 50cc. Pretty cool. Moving onto 100cc tonight.

I don't appreciate certain secret characters being spoiled by staff ghost that are available from the start using them.

I was 8th on Luigi circuit for 24 hours :(.

Battle mode is team only online but the races are awesome. I'm a bit surprised by the skill level of people online so far, winning races by like 10 seconds even after taking blue shells. There was one JAP guy who I kept trading wins with but you can't pos rep them like you can on Live and find them more often :(

First things first, here’s my friend code, add me people:

3566 1681 3609

This game is addictive, I haven’t bothered with the wheel, it’s fun, but not as good as using the normal method. I’m preferring the bikes so far, more responsive. Got 6400 points online, so I’m holding my own. Waiting for all the yanks to get on so the fun can really kick in. Setting up a games room is really simple and the whole thing is user friendly. So yeah very impressed.

Oh and how the heck do you cheat to make yourself number 1 with the best times?

You run the first 2 laps and just before crossing the finish line, stop and wait, eventually the timer will reach it's limit and got back to zero and then you just finish the race. So it says you did the race in 45 seconds. I've not seen it myself but I've read people complaining about it.

It's very addictive, easy to pick up and play, hard to master properlly, loads of tracks.

The online stuff is quick in a good way, about 1-2 minutes between races tops, finding your friends online mid game is easy, all you do is latch on and then you start the next race with them

There's stuff to unlock in 1 player as well. Honestly, it's a great great game. Even my 3 year old kid can play it for god sake.

I never said I couldn't play it :o I've been playing Mario Kart since the SNES days, so I'd like to think I know what I'm doing.

It's just that I love playing Mario Kart, but it was never enough to actually buy the game.

Plus the single player offering (which is what I'll probably be playing most of the time) doesn't seem as robust as Super Mario Kart or Mario Kart 64. Also. the wide tracks bug the hell out of me for some reason.

I'll wait for reviews though and hope that they're good.

But yeah was able to play one, then I got error code for first time. We were pretty even, knocking each other around. Helped you out at the end blue shelling person ahead of you I think. Put a solid 10 hours into the game in first day, done for the day.

overall though online people suck, hardly ever have a huge challenge. Currently at like 6300 rating I think for vs and for battle like 5700. Overall more fun than playing the computer. Currently just finished 50cc, starting 100cc. Not huge on the bikes. Do like the WiiMote/Nunchuck combo best though. Controls are easier plus you can do moves during jumps and wheelies with bikes. Plus playing with GameCube controller is weird as they changed buttons around from DoubleDash. Overall very good game for the Wii, got to get some friends over soon to play with me.

PapaGeorgio
04-28-2008, 06:21 PM
See that is gay, I didn't even realize I was playing you yesterday. And same with Drakul today. He randomly joined and I barely noticed. Then we did a Mirror Cup. Was close, but I ended up fucking up. Should have been 2 wins to 2 wins, but he ended up getting 3. Last one I beat him just at the finish line, was intense.

But yeah, that is stupid how it doesn't like pop up a message saying a friend joined.

Also G, you must have only played one battle with me as I whop ass in Battle, especially coin.

Finally, Online VS still needs more talent. Up to like 6700 ranking now, don't get first all the time but usually do some damage on the people. But I'm lucky to be racing against one other person above 6000.

Sorry I got disconnected halfway through DS Dry Dry Desert. Someone in my house decided to turn off the wireless connection for a while.

There was one thing that happened on our final race on the SNES Mario Circuit 3. My game showed me just make the finish before you yet ranked me as finishing 2nd. I've had it happen in Worldwide races when I came in 5th but got ranked as 6th etc. Dunno why. Probably when people cross the line almost simultaneously the game gets confused, maybe? Anyway, it was fun, we need more TPWWers though. 12 man, all TPWW Grand Prix.

Go to your license on the main page, it's there

My fav right now is using Koopa and that bike that looks like a Magikoopa, I'm all about the high acceleration, but i'm light, so I struggle at the start as I get knocked about, but once I have a lead I'm gone, as long as it's not Luigi circuit, that's not very good for a bike with a low top speed

road doggy dogg
05-07-2008, 12:09 PM
Yeah I love the Magikoopa bike as well, whenever I play a lightweight I use it.

I generally go for an "acceleration > speed" mindset as well when I play online. It's inevitable you're going to get knocked around a few times anyway, so you can't exactly treat it like a time trial, so the high speed isn't as useful imo...... Dave let's play sometime :D My FC is above, I added yours (as well as everybody else's that VC listed above my post)

But yeah, I have seen maybe one person at 7000. Most are in the 5000's that I play. I get a couple 6000-6500 more now though.

Sexytime. I pretty much ignored the first 90% of this thread. You bastards need to add my FC, I added all yours and none of you are on my friend list yet.
