View Full Version : Umaga Vs Jackass Crew...Cancelled? (Small Raw Spoiler)

- As we saw on RAW last night, it appeared RAW setup Umaga vs. Jeff Hardy for SummerSlam, and that match will indeed go down. The planned Jackass vs. Umaga match has been cancelled. Sometime during the last week the deal fell apart. WWE had planned on some of the Jackass guys being at the Great American Bash PPV and do some of their stunts on Umaga all night and end up costing Umaga the title in the Hardy match which would have setup Umaga vs. Jackass at Summerslam.
Johnny Noxville had planned to do a few TV appearances for WWE leading up to the SummerSlam PPV but after the Benoit family tragedy happened, Jackass and Knoxville started distancing themselves from WWE. It started out with a few promised TV and PPV appearances, then it came down to Jackass only working the SummerSlam PPV then it ended with the whole idea being scrapped.
Once Knoxville pulled out, WWE decided to scrap the idea altogether. Originally WWE had planned on the Jackass crew defeating Umaga in the match.

I was wondering what the hell was going on when Hardy was attacking Umaga. I guess they idea is now gone. Oh well...

To add to this, WWE has an early version of the SummerSlam website (http://www.wwe.com/shows/summerslam07/) up, but not on the main page as of this posting. But, I did some toying around with the address from the Great American Bash wallpaper link (http://www.wwe.com/content/media/wallpapers/47360221.html) to see if they had a SummerSlam one available. Click here (http://www.wwe.com/content/media/wallpapers/47360222.html) to see a wallpaper that they may not be using afterall. Usually, the site has a link to the wallpaper(s) but since the angle is apparently scrapped, this probably won't be available on this main SS site.

I'm glad, I REALLY liked the Hardy/Umaga match at GAB, thought it was one of the best mid card matches of the year. And the finishing sequence was just awesome.
Jeff's pop last night when he came out with the chair was huge, I'm really liking Jeff since his return, he hasn't had any horrible matches and he's getting more over

I'm so glad things didn't go down with the Jackass crew. Good news, indeed.
I'm not sure how to feel about the Umaga vs. Jeff Hardy feud continuing, but Dave Youell usually has good taste, so if he says that their match at The Great American Bash was good, I'd believe it. Since returning, Jeff has been working much better, with a fair bit of substance in his matches. I'm remembering his work with Johnny Nitro.
I'm not sure if I agree that creatively, Umaga vs. Jeff Hardy is a compelling Summerslam match, but if they deliver, more power to them.

I can’t explain it, but there match just clicked. The crowd helped. And the announcers really put over how Hardy is one of the few people who gave Umaga that much punishment. It was a story of Jeff basically doing anything to take the big man down Umaga was selling well to make Jeff look like a threat and the ending sequence was just beautiful.
Umaga went to squash in the corner, miss Jeff and hit his head on the ring post, landed flat
Jeff Went for the Sawntom, hit it, took his time for the cover (to protect the finisher)
1,2….kick out!
Jeff goes for the Twist of fate
Umaga pushes him into the corner, Jeff stops, turns around
Umaga superkicks him, Jeff lands in a heap in the corner
Umaga ass washes him
Drags him up and somoan spikes him, Jeff sells it like death.
What I liked about that was, Umaga had to hit 3 really big moves within like 10 seconds (it was really quick) to beat him, it got both guys over well. Can’t remember the last time I was this impressed with an mid card match to be honest. I know it doesn’t sound much, but it just worked so well

That does sound like a sweet match. Maybe not the best ever, but a fun one, no doubt. The superkick into the wrecking ball sounds slick.
I'm quite enjoying Umaga as Intercontinental Champion. I think he has a lot to offer the midcard.

Personally I think it’s a shame he’s not higher up the card, he’s been the best newcomer they’ve had in ages, they have really looked after him well, so he will always seem like a threat.
He’s never got a chance of getting in the upper card on RAW as there’s still HHH and HBK to come back along with a list of about 10 guys who the bookers would deem higher up. Wish he had moved to Smackdown, in the grand scheme of things, I think he could have been a worthy champ right now, but then anyone is better than Kahli

That's a good point, Umaga has been solid in the ring, and would certainly be more appropriate than The Great Khali right now. I'm still a bit worried about his gimmick. I mean, it seems to be working, and Eddie Fatu's playing it well, but I'm still kind of hesisitant about backing a Samoan savage character. I guess I should just stop thinking of what is being done, but rather how it is being done.
I miss Armando Estrada. I think he would be able to help flesh Umaga out some more, explain how he found him, how he came to be a capable wrestler, what his name means, and all that. I think a kayfabe article like the one they wrote on Viscera would go a long way towards me buying him as a legit title contender.

It’s always a problem trying to have a main event without a voice. And as a heel I can’t ever see him having one.
IF they were to try and turn him face though, that could work. Say they brought Estrada back and he started slapping Umaga and putting him down and stuff. Slow build.
Then Umaga snaps and beats him and slowly starts to talk English, like they did with Kane (after the voice box I mean) remember the pop he got on Smackdown just for saying the words ‘Suck it’.
Maybe get him a new manager or wrestler who takes him under his wing, like with Slick and Kamala, only you know, good instead of take him out to bowling and stuff.
I think that could work, as the fans seem to have a connection with him, and it’s always to good to turn someone when they are hot and right now
I might be out of the loop, but why is Estrada gone again?

Umaga/Hardy in a Hardcore match.
That would be the goods.

I thought they were planning on bringing him back to manage somone in ECW soon, i guess he's still 'Injured'
He was removed from Umaga during the Mania feud as there were too many mouthpieces around for the feud

This was a damn fine match by any standard. They really put it over last night, going so far as to link it to the main event. The IC title is getting better treatment than it has in over a year, and that's only a good thing. Get on this ride and enjoy it while it lasts, everyone. :y:
Additionally, I've never been interested in both Hardys at the same time until now.

Didn't bother with Raw and probably won't, but this is one time where they actually wised up. However, giving them kudos for not being anathema to wrestling is notsomething I'm gonna do. That's like applauding someone for not strangling their wife and kids.

"You ain't SUPPOSED to go to jail, ya low-expectation-having motherfucker!!!"

I want to start a list of unintended positives that the Benoit incident has created.
1) No Jackass at SummerSlam
2) Vince death angle scrapped
I know there have been more...

It's sad because I bet as soon as Shawn Michaels, Triple H & the Undertaker all return a bunch of the younger guys like a Jeff Hardy or Carlito will get bumped off the PPV cards.
I seriously believe the WWE has been better off without those three guys. It has forced them to move forward and push their younger talent, which is exactly what the WWE needs to do in my estimation... move forward.

Hardy/Umaga and Hardy/MVP were the first matches I've really enjoyed in quite some time.
I very very very nearly marked out at Jeff and the chair attack on Raw. The funniest bit was, that he had no real need to do it. Umaga was looking at him with almost respect after that match at GAB. Then Jeff answers that with a beat down with a chair on Raw.
Made me laugh.

Are you forgetting that Candice Michelle was about to get her head splattered against the bottom turnbuckle? He was just being a nice guy.

Bwahahahahahaha! WWE has reached a point in which the cast and crew of fucking JACKASS don't want to associate with them. I guess Benoit's death finally made the rest of the world feel as negatively towards them as their fans do.
