Stevie Richards won a match. This is a time to open some wine, my friends. I'm sick of guys under contract being treated like they are jobbers. Stevie Richards, Val Venis, Nunzio and Funaki all deserve better, and the occasional win here and there. Good to see Stevie with the win. :y;

Honestly, there is money in having Richards climb to the top, in a true underdog story.

He'll proably beat Thorn again next week, and after that get CRUSHED in the third week, then we will see a big push for Thorn, and the surprise return of Airel.

So...Summerslam opener?
He seriously needs to bring back the JOB Squad.
All he needs to do is start a stable with the entire ECW roster and invade RAW. :shifty:
Nah, but seriously, a JOB Squad with Stevie, Funaki, Val and maybe a few others would be pretty cool I think. Maybe even bring Snow back in as their manager.

Of all things to bring back, the JOB Squad? Do you guys hear yourselves sometimes? That would be absolutely awful.
I look at it this way. Somebody's gotta job, right? So why not at least make it somebody who at least USED to have a somewhat almost credible name as opposed to some j-bro from a local indy promotion. As far as those guys 'deserving better', they're dealing with a lighter travel schedule, less risk of injury (if only for the sheer lack of ring time), and I'm sure they're still being paid just fine.
Jobbers serve a nice purpose. They make the up and comers look good. I see how people can get upset about some of their former favorites jobbing to guys who are 'not deserving of a push' in their eyes, but hey, what are ya gonna do? Not everybody has to be a big time player just because they're talented.
I was actually a little miffed that Stevie beat Kevin Thorn, because I quite enjoy Thorn. I really hope that this is more of a reward for Stevie than a punishment for Thorn. I'm gonna reserve complete judgment though until I find out where they're actually going with this.

I thought they still wrestled dark matches and house shows, and if anything, worked MORE than some of the main eventers. *shrug*

How is bringing back the JOB Squad awful? They brought back DX for the 557th time.
The job squad was awesome, and anyone who thinks other wise should go watch so tapes.

Who cares if they dont remember? Even better, the concept of wrestlers forming a JOB squad is awesome either way.

The JOB Squad simply would not fit into today's WWE. If you have a scenario in which it would be feasible and potentially entertaining, I'm all ears.

The people responsible for selling TShirts, for one thing.

ECW mutants and the Smarks will remember, and the point is that it would get over either way, its better to use the jobbers as entertianment then to just job.

You want to create a JOB Squad and...still have them lose? I thought the whole point of the JOB Squad was that they started winning when they banded together?
If they were to still lose, the JOB Squad would be DOUBLE pointless. It would literally be putting a t-shirt on the guy who was going to lose right from the get go.

Yeah, but I don't remember much of it. I remember Al Snow, Gillberg, and The Blue Meanie. I remember "PIN ME, PAY ME". Most of all, I remember being completely underwhelmed.

Something about guys who are admitting that they're losers, bitching about it, and still losing just doesn't strike me as entertaining. It was toying with kayfabe back then, all while that's pretty much all but dissipated in today's era, I still like to think that the wrestlers (even those who are obviously going to lose) are at least TRYING. That's what make the Stevie win last week so shocking.
Very nice for Stevie to get his annual win but having Thorn lose is just stupid.

I'd rather just see these guys who would be eligible for JOB Squad status, such as Stevie, Val, Funaki et al, just pick up an occasional win over a real jobber on TV... just to remind viewers that they're one level above the unknown locals we see pummelled every week... y'know, that they are actually contracted "WWE Superstars".

I wish WWE would bring back Prime Time Wrestling, complete with squash matches, as an internet show. Have Heenan and Josh Matthews host it, whatever. Just have these lower card guys winning from time to time.
Anybody Thrilla
07-25-2007, 02:35 PM
That would be nice in theory, Carl, but why would you give TV time to somebody who isn't even being pushed unless they're in there with somebody who is being pushed? It just seems like bad business. Val Venis has a fanbase, and that's great, but having him go over jobbers just doesn't really advance anything at all.
Anybody Thrilla
07-25-2007, 02:37 PM
An internet show might not be so bad for it, but when would they film these matches?
NeanderCarl
07-25-2007, 06:07 PM
Instead of dark matches, pre-taping. Or even afterwards.
Back in the day WWE would tape for HOURS at TV tapings.
NeanderCarl
07-25-2007, 06:07 PM
Or they could simply integrate Heat into a two hour Prime Time show.
Jordan
07-25-2007, 06:18 PM
Just put those matches on Heat.
Steve can still have inter promotional main events on Heat.
Mr. Nerfect
07-30-2007, 05:00 AM
I also hope it was more a reward for Stevie can punishment for Thorn, as I am also a "Fantig."
Instead of having Stevie bring back the JOB Squad, how about the bWo? It can still consist of the same theory as the JOB Squad, only without making them look like jokes (as much).
And I agree, the guys under contract, even the jobbers, should be allowed to go over more. The occasional win makes the next time they lose more meaningful. I'm pretty sure Stevie will lose to Thorn this week, but that win has gone quite a fair way to making the fans care about him, I'm sure. He might even get a decent face reaction.
The WWE has been pretty good to Val Venis. He has gotten wins over Christian, Triple H and Charlie Haas as the porn star since the brand split. I think a win over Daivari on this week's Heat would have been something, too. Funaki and Shannon Moore rarely get wins, which is a little upsetting. Maybe some cruiserweight tag team matches, with Funaki and Shannon Moore getting the win with the face team, would go a long way to giving them a more passable record?
If the WWE taped four hours before each show (like their international tapings), they could get two internet shows done before RAW. Make one Heat, and have talent actually get a good chance to show their stuff. They have so much recap stuff on Heat it is pointless. You can chase that up anywhere else on the site. Instead, let the wrestlers go for a little longer. Recently we saw Charlie Haas take on Brian Kendrick and Paul London in back-to-back weeks. Can you imagine if those matches went for fifteen minutes or so? Heat as a one-hour wrestling show might be enjoyable. With the second internet showed taped on the RAW site, how about a show taped after RAW, which features talent from RAW, SmackDown! and ECW, a match from each brand? Instead of having bonus dark matches after the show featuring main eventers, why not have a second RAW main event, a match featuring the cruiserweights to open and a match featuring CM Punk and Stevie Richards teaming to take on John Morrison and Kevin Thorn? That would be a pretty fun show worthy of watching.
Prior to the SmackDown! tapings, you can film ECW and Velocity. SmackDown! never uses all the talent available to it, and having Shannon Moore, Jamie Noble, Sylvan, Dave Taylor and Funaki pick up wins on that show could help keep them somewhat relevent. When you don't use a main eventer on the show in a wrestling role (like Kane or Batista), have them main event the show, and advertise it to get some attention to it, and the undercard as a result.
It's one of the greatest weaknesses of the current product, in that guys lower on the card don't get as much love as they used to.
