View Full Version : WWE to bring back Starrcade and War Games...

WWE has decided to rename a WWE pay-per-view after a WCW pay-per-view in place of a current "b-level" pay-per-view event. WWE is either replacing Armageddon with Starrcade and/or replacing No Mercy with Halloween Havoc. WWE is also considering using the War Games match at this year's Survivor Series in Montreal.
I really hope WWE doesn't ruin the history of War Games. What do you guys think about this?
I don't think they should bring back Starcade unless it's a WCW One Night Stand type of deal. It was WCW's biggest event.
I'd like to see them use the Clash of the Champions name though.

WWE usually screws up everything that is not their event. However SURELY if they bring back Starrcade it will have a better ME than the last Starrcade (Sid vs Scott Steiner)

I wonder if WWE would keep the War Games match rules or use their own?

Ooo! Sid's rumored to come back! Just get Steiner from TNA and recreate it! Shit, even do the Big Boot off the top spot again!
I think that means Dusty Rhodes is getting more and more pull backstage. :y:

I vote for Halloween Havoc as long as they bring back the set with the skeleton hands shaking the pumpkin.

I think it would be great for WWE to have Starcade or Halloween Havoc. WWE is like a mix of all wrestling in the past now, they are WWF, NWA, WCW, ECW, and AWA. I am all for carrying on old traditions.

I think Halloween Havoc is a much better name than No Mercy for the WWE's October Pay Per View.

I bet it'd go like this:
Survivor Series: War Games Match. 3 teams of 3 (Raw, Smackdown, ECW). Though they are teams, it is really every man for himself as the winner will snag a title match at Starrcade in December or something.

I like it.
Make the main event at Survivor Series a War Games match.
War Games: The Chamber Edition
Seriously, all the Elimination Chamber is is a singles War Games match. Just set up two teams of three and you have the WWE version of War Games.

WWE will only make reference to WCW if they are planning on making it shit.
Remember - WCW was evil. Nothing good can be said about it.

I've always wanted War Games back, but I fear WWE will crap it up. I don't want Starrcade back however, for reasons already mentioned. It was a big show for WCW and they would make it just another PPV that doesn't matter.

I like it. I think they should try to make Starcade very much an important PPV. Kinda like a mini Wrestlemania.
As for War Games. I'd love it, but isn't it supposed to be about deciding stable wars? Seeing how we have no stables it's pointless.

I'm not going to order any WCW pay-per-view.
I didn't read that in the Observer.

RAW vs SD! vs ECW would be an awesome War Games match if the picked the right people.

It'd be a good way to end the year.
Halloween Havoc would be nice. They could have a sweet entrance way.
As I got older, War Games seemed less awesome.

Come to think, I remember back around ECW ONS I wouldn't have minded them doing a WCW ONS, but it really couldn't work now. Not enough people around to do it justice.
-Sting, Nash, Jarrett, Raven, Steiners all in TNA
-Goldberg probably would decline because its WWE, even if its a one-off
-DDP's neck problems caused him to retire, probably wouldn't come back
-Malenko probably wouldn't compete
-No Eddie and Benoit obviously
etc.

I doubt it. People have grown out of 80s wrestling.
There were 2 kinds of "80s wrestling". WWF's gimmicky bullshit wrestling and the NWA's style that made people view it as a "sport" even if they knew deep down it was fake. I think people are craving that old-school NWA style.
Mr. Nerfect
07-28-2007, 01:18 AM
I'm all for this. Starrcade has some history behind it, and it gives them another "big" PPV to help boost sales. Armageddon never really does well, however Starrcade might. Halloween Havoc would also blow No Mercy right out of the water in terms of atmosphere.
War Games could very easily be done by the WWE. Take three teams, each representing a brand, and just let them slug it out. Maybe have the Champions of each brand lead the teams, in a variation of the "Champions of Champions" concept. Let's just say they take teams of five (four would probably run smoother, but let's assume five):
RAW:
1. John Cena
2. Triple H
3. Randy Orton
4. King Booker
5. Bobby Lashley
ECW:
1. John Morrison
2. CM Punk
3. Elijah Burke
4. Marcus Cor Von
5. Kevin Thorn
SmackDown!:
1. Batista
2. Rey Mysterio
3. The Great Khali
4. Kane
5. Finlay
I think they would modify the rules a little bit, but I don't really have a problem with that, as I never really got into the old-school rules. I think maybe a concept that is more like chess would suit the match. Participants are eliminated via pinfall or submission, until the leader is defeated. Once the leader is defeated, that team is eliminated in its entirety.

I'd save it for when there's an actual stable war going on. The WWE debut of war games would have been so much better suited for The Invasion, or Evolution vs a face alliance or something.
Right now theres so many interpromotional events and tag matches and shit that the effect wouldn't even be good. It'd be cool, but nothing special. All those guys have had matches in the past few months.
My vote: Definitely use it at a ppv (preferably Survivor Series) but do it when it makes sense.
I'd rather see Halloween Havoc used this year for like Taker's return if at all possible. It'd be a cool event really.

Sad thing is Alienoid came up with like... the best possible teams with the rosters as they are and yet the only team that has any star power is Raw. Not suprising or anything but still... rather sad.

If they could turn Starrcade into a secondary Mania, then I'm all for it. You'd have the Rumble and Mania at the beginning of the year, then you'd have War Games and Starrcade at the end. Atleast there'd be something to look forward to.
Jeritron
07-29-2007, 03:41 PM
Summerslam already is the secondary mania.
Starrcades best bet would be to be a big climactic split brand PPV at the end of the year, kinda as a season finale before the road to wrestlemania. Or the end of fueds and the beginning of new ones and such.
Maybe they could do something special for it annually, like some kind of champion/champion match or something tied into the rumble.

:wtf:
Late's 90's fan right?
No. NWA in the 80's rocked but you know what it's not around anymore. NWA now sucks. And yeah if there was a promotion that was like NWA of the day I'd watch it, but they wouldn't be able to get wrestlers that are 1/2 as good.
Maybe they could do something special for it annually, like some kind of champion/champion match or something tied into the rumble.
War Games: The winning team gets the final five spots in the Royal Rumble and the losing team gets the first five spots.
Jeritron
07-29-2007, 10:03 PM
I was thinking something like that. It'd be cool if the winning team each got one title shot in the following year or something.
I'm sure theres something they could do to make it meaningful.
