what would i need to do in order to solve this problem. i know when my laptop had this problem, it needed grease or something somewhere. but this guy is only 1 1/2 years old. maybe some compressed air is in order inside the tower? is that even safe? i know last time i was inside it, there was dust buildup everywhere.

The first thing I thought of would have been dust build up. Might not be the likely suspect but if dust builds up, the amount of air being pushed through decreases and the speed of the fan increases to try and push the same amount of air. Worth a shot and doesn't hurt.

is there anything i can use around the house to clean some of it up, like a paper towel. i don't want to ruin any parts with the "static cling".

You could try turning off the computer and using a vacuum.

turn it off, take the side(s) off it, give it a good cleaning.

ok took it apart, took the fan apart and gave everything a thorough dusting. since starting it up it hasn't ran high. :y:

Stop giving out bad advice :p Never use a vacuum cleaner, generates heaps of static and can suck shit off the motherboard etc. Buy a can of compressed air and use that.

IT'S A LITTLE TOO LATE FOR THAT

I guess if your computer has exposed wires because you tried to Tim Taylor the suck power then you might be in trouble but if you're just sucking out dust of the heatsink fan then you're absolutely fine.

i took the vacuum to everything, motherboard included. IT'S WORKING QUIETLY SO I AM NOT COMPLAINING.
