There is no discussion. They made the Character in like 1988 based on his appearances at the beginning of the show. They had him do it because he was a popular wrestling character.

Not to mention he isnt a WWE character, he was around before the WWF even broke away. He was in the WWWF, AWA and NWA at times.

Slaughter got the nickname from friends saying he looked like Sgt Slaughter in a old movie. Slaughter started out in AWA in the 70s, then went to the WWF as a heel where he feuded with Patterson and had their famous alley fight match at MSG. He then went to Mid-Atlantic Wrestling for Crockett and held the U.S. and Tag Titles multple times there. He had big feuds with Steamboat/Youngblood and Wahoo McDaniel. He then returned to the WWF in 83 as a heel again and feuded with Bob Backlund for the WWF Title. He turned face in early 84 when he got sick of The Iron Sheiks love for Iran and he was USA all the way. He had the famous bootcamp match with him and then was fired by Vince for missing many dates. He then was in the AWA from 85-89 where he feuded with guys like Boris Zukhov and Larry Zybsko and almost won the AWA Title there, In fact he was supposed to become the AWA Champ in 1990 but thats when he went to the WWF in his infamous Iraqi Sympthzier Angle. Slaughter was only going to be I-C Champ there but after WWF decided not to do the Hogan/Warrior rematch and Rick Rude left the company after being fustrated on not being in the ME scene they put the World Title on Slaughter. Slaughter wrestled for the WWF until either late 92 or early 93 when he became a road agent which he still does today.
