does this summer seem to be lacking in the movie department? I havne't consitantly gone to the movies in about a year due to a lack of things to see. This summer the only two that interest me are The Bourne Ultimatum and The Simpsons. Other than that there's really nothing calling to me. Anybody feel the same way?

I felt it was somewhat solid. I suppose it is how you define summer. Personally I go by school and I think I always will. Late may is when I declare it is summer. But they had some big movies out, not all I wanted to see but variety of shit. But now it is slowing down, pretty sure it usually does slow down in August.

It got started pretty early. You had Ocean's 13, Spider-Man 3, Shrek 3, Pirates 3, Transformers, Simpsons movie, Bourne Ultimatum. Probably a few other big titles I missed.

I'm passing up on Rush Hour 3. But I'm waiting to hear how this Stardust movie plays out.

God, there's been like a dozen blockbusters.

Have you been in a dark hole all summer stickman?

Maybe I'm tired of sequils. Where's the originality?

Dave Wadding's attempts at insults are amazing. I wish I could come up with the great humour like that. He should do stand up.

I don't get excited over sequels. I did not like Spiderman 2 so 3 sure didn't call at me. I did see it and it was fairly good. That came out months ago though, same with Shrek so is that really summertime? I'm not a huge Pirates fan and thought the first one was over rated. Haven't seen the second one but I'm not expecting much out of it or number 3. Transformers is something I'd rent but not go to.

I do like the Bourne series so I did go see number three. Haven't seen the Simpsons yet but I wouldn't mind seeing it in theaters. Did see Oceans 13 and enjoyed it but it's nothing to write home about.

I dunno. Maybe I'm just being grouchy but very few movies have been calling at me. It seems like nothing is original anymore. Just like pro wrestling. Same shit different day.

And things were original last year because.....

The film industry is not based on originality it is based on rehashing old ideas that have worked over and over. And building a franchise is the way things are going to be from now until the world ends.

Truly original films very rarely appeal to the mass market and very rarely get money thrown at them for marketing.

There were 3 preveiws to before Bourne that called at me. Rehashed ideas I'm sure but looked pretty good. Cant remember any of the names though.

How good anyone forget SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAA?

Also I seem to have heard somewhere in the Stats a woman went into the movie theatre, and into the wrong one, upon stating "This isn't Bratz is it?"

A male promptly jumped to his feet, yelled "No, This is Sparta"
And kicked her in the face, and is now in jail on assault charges and the such.

Can anyone verify this?

How good anyone forget SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAA?

Yeah, something that godawful would be burned in one's memory.

By the way, a horribly rehashed idea.

So...Stickman, did you just not notice all the sequels last summer, or....

The movies this summer broke a record. I can't remember exactly what that record is at the moment but I think this summer's movies made the most money overall.

You can add the fifth Harry Potter movie to the list of this summer's blockbusters, too. Add in a couple of well-received (box office- and critic-wise) comedies in Knocked Up and Superbad, and you've got a pretty damned solid summer at the movies.
