Why is it that the WWE has bigger rings than anybody else?

By having a 20x20 instead of a 16x16 or an 18x18,they give the guys
a little more space to work in. It gives the guys more room to bump,
makes the ropes easier to run,has more space for bigger spots,etc....

They also use real ropes instead of cable ropes, which make the
ropes looser and all of that.It makes it awkward for indy guys or
other wrestlers who aren't used to:
A) A 20x20 ring... -and- B) Those type of ropes...

With those ropes being so loose, if you're not used to them, you'll fall
right out of the ring.

Personally, I prefer the bigger rings.

Is the WWE the only "big ring" company?

Between the two main groups (WWE and TNA),yes.

There are indy promotions and schools who have 20 x 20 rings though.

Several bigger schools have 16x16,18x18 and 20x20 rings; to teach
you how to be comfortable in both. They also use ropes and cables,
so that you'll be familiar with both.

I like the 20x20 rings best, as it gives them more room to work.

I think cable ropes are the better kind of ropes. I don't like real ropes.

After hearing some of the horror storys that have happened with cable ropes i'm quite happy using normal ropes, when they are tighten properly you can't really notice that much of a difference.

I haven't heard any horror stories.

I like cable because they are easier to run.

Although I myself have had a mishap with cable ropes (that's another
story altogether),I still prefer them as well. It's really up to the indiv-
idual talent as to what they feel more comfortable with. Usually none
of us have a choice in the matter anyway, unless we're the ones that
rent the rings :)

Yeah, Mickey's ear :(

You know, if he could have remembered the German word for formaldehyde he'd still have that ear...

Sure Mick's ear came off, but you can't blame it on the cable ropes.

It is the wrestlers that fight in the matches, his opponent that tied him up in the ropes.

Could have happened with rope ropes too if done a certain way.

You know, I've wondered the difference for a while. Is a cable rope made up of a single cable or a bunch of cables? Same with real ropes, are they just one long strand or what?
