View Full Version : Wrestling: Love or Habbit?

I started this with a comment in another thread. I'm not a true, old school wrestling fan. Back when I was a kid, I thought wrestling was really dumb and couldn't understand people watching a fake sport every week (though as someone who doesn't really watch sports in general, it made sense). It was back at the end of 1997/start of 1998 that I got into wrestling. Some new friends of mine had got me somewhat interested in video games like WCW vs. The World and WWF Warzone, and then I decided to check it out on tv.

Slowly I ended up becoming a big fan of wrestling and caught both Nitro and Raw every week. I loved almost everything, even the stuff people hated. However, 9 years later, I don't seem to care much at all for wrestling. Either my favorites have retired or had left this world a little too early. I haven't watched Smackdown regularly since Wrestlemania 19, and Raw had been a habbit that I only cared about when nothing else was on television. ECW I watched near the beginning and with the NewBreed angle involving CM Punks allegiance. Last, I never got hooked with Impact (possibly more because of having to listen to 2 of the worst commentators of all time rather than bad storylines).

I might have checked out ROH if they had a show in the area, but they don't. So with this little love of wrestling, why do I keep coming back here, talking on the forums about it, discussing it with friends in real life. I don't seem to love it, but I can't get away from it either. Even if I don't watch it regularly anymore, I still bring it up into amost any convo I have. I can relate it to any topic...hell, a paper I wrote for a economics class was on wrestling, and I got an A on it.

It seems to be a big part of my life, but I can't seem to care enough to even keep up with it anymore. Is it love of wrestling that I still keep up with it even though there is nothing in wrestling I can currently praise, or is it simply a habbit that I haven't found a way of filling with something better yet.

What are you're thoughts on wrestling. If you're posting here, obviously you still have some connection to it. What do you feel your connection is? Is a love for wrestling you can't quite describe, or just a habbit you can't seem to break?

Tough to say for me. It's definately a habit in that I will never stop watching no matter how bad the product itself gets. I find myself tuning into Raw every monday for the past few weeks and feeling like crap when I do. Like it's my job or something.

At the same time though, while I might hate the product that is being put out, I do love the business itself and just tuning in to see the next steps in WWE history.

A little bit of both.
RAW and ECW-Love.
TNA and Smackdown-Habit, just because it's wrestling. I also watched every episode of WSX and I catch AAA shows that run on Telemundo, or what ever channel it is.
It's wrestling, I watch it, no matter how bad it is, just won't pay for PPVs, except Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania. Those two, I throw parties for, everything else, sports bar.

I love WWE. Simple as that. I tune in to every show every week, and order every PPV. Can't ever see myself falling out of love with it!

The only wrestling I ever truly loved was original ECW. Nowadays I pretty much watch wrestling for habbit I suppose but I mean I still enjoy it

Former love that dwindled into a habbit and is now a 'if I'm at home with absolutely nothing to do, and there is nothing AT ALL else on tv.'

I agree though that the love died with the original ECW> I miss the live shows. *former ECW mutant*

Right now it's kind of both. I love wrestling, but watch it out of habit these days.

Raw is usually decent or good and I watch it every week. I've been watching Raw for 10 years straight, so it is out of habit, but I love wrestling and Raw is thew best show right now. I find Smackdown and ECW pretty bad, so I stopped watching them. I still tune into Smackdown for a little bit sometimes out of habit, but I never last long when watching it.

I like TNA. There is a lot of crap in that company, but overall I watch it because I like it.

I think it is really depending on the promotion, if it's WWE or TNA it is out of habbit but if it's something like ROH I watch it to enjoy a good wrestling show

Habit, but I'll try to catch a televised taping if it's in town.

I love watching wrestling. Watching wrestling is kinda like sex. Even when it is bad, it is good.

Sometimes I feel it's out of habit, because I always fall back on watching Attitude Era stuff and still find it great, so I'm just continuing from when I absoultely loved it. But then, I see a great angle, or match, even if it's once in a blue moon and I remember why I do love it.

Though I do only watch RAW religiously, that is completely out of habit, but I will watch one of the other shows sometimes, since I do TiVo everything, and that makes me feel the love for it - just watching 'rasslin.

Edit: I realize this may not make sense - I'm tired right now...

That's a tough question, man. I would say, habit, but i do love some things about it still.

I've been watching my entire life. Wrestling is just a part of me now, and I could never hate it.

Love. No promotion in particular, just the art form. Fascinates me. Has done for as long as I can remember. It's a special business. The camaraderie, the crowds, the adrenaline, the travelling, the ego. I wouldn't change it for anything in the world.

tbh, I stop and watch for at least a few minutes anything that looks like wrestling, even if it is just a commersial. I think I have a problem.

Speaking of which, I saw Terry Taylor on a promo for Splenda. He referred to himself as "A TV Wrestler".

I'm with BDC though there, if I'm channel surfing and see anything wrestling related I'll watch it for a few minutes.

I think it's bad, though, when I start calling out moves in a movie fight or some shit and then complain about how they didn't do it right.
