View Full Version : Unforgiven could be pretty good...*SmackDown! Spoilers, I guess*

The suspensions could really fuck things up, but let's just say that the WWE chooses to just not give them their pay, but lets the wrestlers remain on the active roster, for the sake of this thread. Heading into Unforgiven after this week's programming, we have the following matches teased:

Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship: John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. King Booker
I'd rather see this than another one-on-one match between Randy Orton and John Cena. King Booker could end up being removed, but there is no where else for him on the card. It also helps him save face to be in an important match after his loss to Triple H. Booker is a solid performer, and John Cena is more tolerable in multi-man matches. He and Orton apparently have good chemstry, too, and this feud is heating up and becoming more personal. Either guy walking out WWE Champion would not be horrible (Orton winning could be tolerable if it was as a transitional champion).

World Heavyweight Championship: The Great Khali vs. Rey Mysterio
This won't be a classic, but Rey will bump around for Khali, and make him look like a beast. If Mysterio somehow pulls off the upset, it would be a great babyface moment, as well. After SmackDown!, this is the only confirmed match for Unforgiven, and I really wouldn't mind it if they gave Rey the "Eddie win", and had Batista spear Khali, continuing their lame feud (but away from the main event) and allowing Rey to get the Frog Splash for the pin. I'm not as anti-Rey as others, as he is one of the more solid main event performers on SmackDown!. I think Khali will be retaining in a forceful way, though. It's a shame, because Rey Mysterio vs. Edge when the later returns, would be a lot of fun.

Gimmick Match for the ECW Championship: John Morrison vs. CM Punk
No Mercy is apparently in Chicago, so I think they will hold off on the big babyface win until then. Besides, I think the reason Morrison retained the ECW Title at Summerslam is so they can sell those Morrison t-shirts they were meant to be bringing out. Morrison and Punk just can't keep wrestling in regular matches, though. They need a little something to add heat to the feud. Punk is the #1 Contender, and I'd do a "Chris Jericho/Triple H" spot, and have Punk look to have won the ECW Title on Sci-Fi, but then the referee reverses his decision because of some heel manipulation. This leads to a gimmick match at Unforgiven, maybe even something new like a "Palace of Wisdom Match." It could help generate a little interest for the show on ECW's part. Just give them more time than they got at Summerslam.

The Illegitimate Child is Revealed
It will likely be Mr. Kennedy, and what better place to do it on PPV? He's not booked, so it doesn't really step on anyone's toes.

The Undertaker vs. Mark Henry
The less said about this match, the better. It will be a good return for The Undertaker, though. Gets him the big win, and the marks tune in for him.

Triple H vs. Carlito
I actually got really excited during their teased interaction on RAW. Triple H was not nearly as lame as he usually is, and Carlito looked really good getting into Triple H's face. This would be another win for the H's, but a solid showing for Carlito here would help him look great. Carlito is a future star, Triple H is a present star. I think it is more critical to give Triple H the win, but having Carlito look good helps further groom him, and it will make the fans take him more seriously.

Batista vs. Finlay
On SmackDown! this week, Batista lost his Championship Competition Match to Rey Mysterio because of Finlay. That could be the groundwork for a match. There is also their match from the SmackDown! prior, which can be used to establish an in-ring rivalry, as well as a personal one. Batista vs. Finlay would be a good match, as Dave always gets the best out of Dave. It would keep Batista out of the World Heavyweight Title match, as well, and gives him a big win lower on the show, reminding the fans that he can be victorious.

Intercontinental Championship: Umaga vs. Jeff Hardy
Apparently they had a good match at The Great American Bash, just before Hardy got suspended. I'm really digging Umaga as IC Champion, which is unusual for me. I've always thought of the belt as an elevating tool for future stars. Umaga is probably as big a star as he is ever going to be, and him holding the belt is kind of a non-development, but he's a solid worker, and I'm loving his loose cannon face/heel switches. Please, just don't have Jeffrey win this match. Let Umaga retain and hold the belt until like WrestleMania next year, and then have him defend it in the first IC Title defense at a Mania in six years, against someone like Cody Rhodes. The face then wins, and we have a "WrestleMania moment."

WWE United States Championship: MVP vs. Matt Hardy
This match would simply be Ballin'. I don't care what anyone says, Matt Hardy is fucking amazing these days. In the ring, he has truly evolved into a ring general (something he started developing back when he was scripting most of the matches he was involved in as The Hardy Boyz), and MVP is truly swelling up. The fans are loving him now, and he's just got everything going for him, and even has two championships to his name. I'd have Matt Hardy pick up the big win here, though, and keep this feud on its feet, with some US Title switches between MVP and Hardy. It would be another multi-man match, but you could even have their interactions with Deuce N' Domino continue, and make this a Fatal Fourway with the former WWE Tag Team Champions being included.

WWE Women's Championship: Candice Michelle vs. Beth Phoenix
For the love of women's wrestling, please make this as one-sided as possible. Then re-hire Shantelle Taylor, and have her provide another face to counterbalance Phoenix, Jillian Hall and Melina with Mickie James and Nattie Neidhart, when she is called up. Candice Michelle has improved, but it was never enough to be Women's Champion, and she still has a long way to go, yet.

World Tag Team Championship: Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch vs. Paul London & Brian Kendrick
This match is not likely, I'll admit it, but they got rave reviews for their dark match before Summerslam, and while Cryme Tyme are likely to be the guys who dethrone Cade & Murdoch, this match would be a lot of fun, and remind everyone that Cade & Murdoch exist. This would make a really fun opener.

So yeah, there are ten possible matches for your consideration. They won't all make it, and the likely cuts would be the bottom two matches, but I must commend the WWE for getting their shit together, and actually building towards a PPV for a change. There really is enough going on each brand to probably have RAW PPVs and SmackDown!/ECW PPVs. I guess there are also the ECW programs like The Miz vs. Balls Mahoney and Big Daddy V vs. The Boogeyman, but I doubt they'll make it. If Unforgiven turns out to be a selection of those matches, it might actually be worth checking out. Not a great PPV, but a solid one. Probably around a B-grade?

What do you all think?

I don't read short stories.

I am thinking that will do a fatal four way with Cena/Booker/Triple H/Orton with Triple H pinning Orton and going on a feud with him. That way Cena doesn't really get beaten and can feud with Triple H in the short future. But I think you got good ideas.

If the steroid lists are any indication of who is actually suspended, Punk is likely taking the title this week and Orton will likely be out for the month. The Kennedy angle won't happen then either if he's suspended. That takes three of your major angles/matches out.

Also, why the fuck would Booker be in a main event spot when he was buried the month before? He needs at least two months of build before he can be seen as a credible threat to the champion again.

If you're not capable of reading, just look at the pretty colours, they provide the gist of it, and you can go from there. If you want to read my thoughts, then you can look at the bigger parts.

In summary, here are the feuds the WWE has on the go:

* John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. King Booker
* The Great Khali vs. Rey Mysterio
* John Morrison vs. CM Punk
* The Undertaker vs. Mark Henry
* Triple H vs. Carlito
* Batista vs. Finlay
* Big Daddy V vs. The Boogeyman
* Umaga vs. Jeff Hardy
* MVP vs. Matt Hardy (vs. Deuce vs. Domino)
* The Miz vs. Balls Mahoney
* Candice Michelle vs. Beth Phoenix
* Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch vs. Paul London & Brian Kendrick (vs. Cryme Tyme)

That was something I addressed in the first sentence, but it is a concern. If that happens, things could be even more interesting, in a car wreck sort of way. They might have to rely on some lower card acts, and solid wrestling.

As much pressure as the WWE is under, though, I just can't see them dropping John Cena vs. Randy Orton (although John Morrison losing on Sci-Fi next week is a strong possibility). The suspensions might be one of those things they did with Randy Orton, where they still used him during on-screen, but just suspended his pay.

That is a possibility, too. Carlito might just become RAW fodder for Triple H. I hope they don't go that route, though, as I think Triple H is in a similar position to Jeff Jarrett. He might get over as a face, but the harder they push him, the more chance it will have of blowing up. I think easing Triple H back into the main event scene is the way to go.
