Anyone else have this? It's basically a free software program which is a Guitar hero knock-off. The catch is that you use the keyboard instead of the guitar controller. Kind of eliminates the point right? Well that would be true if Microsoft hadn't released free software on their site which allows you to use wired xbox 360 controllers, including the x-plorer, on your PC.

Also, there are about 1,000+ songs out there for it, on various sites and torrents. Best bet is to google "frets on fire song packs" as there are about four of them with 300+ songs each available thru torrents. Most of these songs have multiple difficulty levels, although even many of the ones that only have amazing (fof version of expert) available arn't as hard as a typical GH expert song.

Obviously, being free software, it doesn't run quite as smooth as the actual Guitar Hero game, but it still runs REALLY well. The difference is pretty damn subtle, and its still just as fun.

Here's the site for downloading it
http://fretsonfire.sourceforge.net/

I can't be bothered to look for the microsoft controller software atm, but you should be able to find it easily enough.

Last thing. VIEW THE READ ME FILE. I have a monster computer, but it still didn't run as smoothly as it could until I read the read me file and made option adjustments it told me to.

I suggest you all try this if you have a pc and an xbox 360 x-plorer. Because playing a metal version of the music from ninja gaiden kicks all kinds of ass.

I think I downloaded this at one point. I actually think you can hooki up the 360 Guitar to it and it will work. Someone told me that their was some create your own type of site where the guitar for GH 360 would work.

I personally havnt tried it but would be willing to if I could ever find the program.

Um... I covered that already. I don't know what create your own site thing you're talking about, but I already mentioned microsoft released the the software on their site for using the x-plorer controller on your computer.

Yeah, had this for a while. 'Tis good. Don't like the user created songs though. I only 'play' the GH ports.

This has been mentioned before. The concept of user-created content is great, except there are no dropout sounds when you mis a note, are there?

Nope. The sound just goes a bit quieter. On some, the sound cuts out altogether.

Sounds great. If only I had a 360.

Thats not entirely true. Although there are less songs without dropout noises, some do have them. And as for the sound cutting out completely, there is a dos file called affe that comes with the songpacks I mentioned. All you do is put it in any folders that you have songs, and it creates a background track for every song in that folder.

Honestly, getting a 360 guitar controller on ebay(don't think they sell it without the game in stores) is probably worth having 1,000 songs to choose from.

From what I've encountered. There are more good than bad. AT least recently. Maybe there wasn't when you tried it. Stands to reason pople would get better at it as time goes on. You should give em another try. Iron Maiden and Megadeath songs are usually pretty good.

I might just do that. Gonna pick up a GH controller first though. Been meaning to do that for ages.

Windows XP should recognize it automatically, but using up and down on the fret key doesn't work well unless you get XBCD, which is a program to get xbox controllers to work correctly on Windows.

I found a tutorial somewhere online on how to set it all up correctly, but I couldn't tell you where. Maybe try the FoF message board. It can be done. I've hooked up two guitars perfectly and played through 80s encore and GHI since I don't have PS2 guitars.

Just discovered this. Downloading all song packs from the pirate bay right now.

Plugged my Xplorer guitar in and my PC recognized it right away. Tried it with this and it works like a charm. WOOOOOOOO

And if you don't like the square notes, background, and menus, there are mods you can download to make them a lot more detailed.
