Link's Crossbow Training hits the US in November

After much speculation yesterday, Nintendo has confirmed that Link's Crossbow Training will launch with the Wii Zapper in the US on 19 November.

When Nintendo revealed the Wii Zapper at the E3 games show in July it was announced that it would not only work with the likes of Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and Medal Of Honor Heroes 2 but would come packaged with some original software. Many speculated that it might be Duck Hunt but the news of Link's Crossbow Training comes as a complete surprise.

Link's Crossbow Training will have the same graphical style as The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess and throws up a series of tests designed to improve Link's crossbow marksmanship. You'll start shooting at stationary bull's eyes before progressing to moving targets and defending yourself against enemies.

So, how does everyone feel about this?

It's most likely another mini-game fest

Sounds more like they just pulled one of the mini games from one of the Zelda games.

It'll sell though and that's all that matters to Nintendo.

It's only gonna be like 20 bucks for the game and the adapter, right? Who cares?

Exactly

It’s an excuse for people to buy the zapper, like with Wii Play, I didn’t get it because I wanted Wii Play I wanted another controller and knew that I could spend £25 to get another wii mote or £40 and get a game as well. So in my head £15 for a game (even if it was a mini game set) was good value

Same with the Zapper, I know that I’ll be getting Umbrella Crons and with Ghost Squad coming out next year there’s 2 sound investments straight away (ghost squad is a capcom arcade game, it’s fucking good)

Now if they made a point blank deluxe edition I’d be in heaven.

My only concern is the amount of extra’s I’m going to buy for the wii

So far I’ve got another wii mote and knumbchuck
A classic controller

Soon I’m going to get the zapper

There’s that mat that comes with wii fit that looks interesting

And of course the guitar \m/

That’s over £100 on gear before any games! Heck Guitar Hero 3 is probably going to be £60+ on it’s own

Nevermind eh,

There is a zapper that's being made that lets you detatch the nunchuck and use it like a pistol as well as like a two handed weapon. I would gladly take that, without packaged game, over Nintendos garbage remake.

Kane Knight
09-14-2007, 11:55 PM
Yeah, the BRando one looks better, period.

But I doubt games will be made with it in mind.

DS

It will still work just like the Nintendo version. You just have the option to use it as a pistol. I don't know why Nintendo didn't go this route in the first place. I think their version will probably get uncomfortable after a while.

Yes, holding ten ounces of plastic WILL get uncomfortable.

DS

So you know exactly what I mean.

When I play FPS, I use my right hand for firing and my left for movement, basic controls for pretty much every shooter I can think of. If I use the zapper I'll hold it on my right side as that would feel most comfortable. That means that my left hand, more specifically my fingers, will be rubbing against my right arm because I'll end up just resting it there. That's what will be uncomfortable. Just thinking of holding it that way feels weird as well.

Use your left hand to tickle your balls. Problem solved. :y:

No, I don't. Please don't be so presumptuous to assume that everyone is unable to comfortably hold a guncon because you are. Even after your explanation, I STILL can't see how the fuck you'd have a problem.

DS

lol way to pick up on the sarcasm there Kane Knight. Don't know where you got that I was assuming it would be uncomfortable for everyone either. But then again, I can hardly be surprised that the precious Kane Knight would make assumtions about what other people are saying to make his argument seem legit.

And the version G posted was what I was talking about. That's how Nintendo should have made theirs.

Yes, the Brando version we were discussing. Very good, you managed to hold your focus for what? Two seconds.

Also, nice cop out. Oh waaaah...I was being sarcastic!

I'm sorry I'm not some whiny little fuck whose arms get tired holding a fake gun. Boo Hoo. :'(

It's not an assumption. You said I knew what you meant. You can duck out and say it's sarcasm, now, but there's no real indication of that in what you wrote. In fact, you explanation seems to justify a serious inference, not a sarcastic one. The logical conclusion is that you were presuming I had the same problem holding my arms up that you do.

Ayup. Big assumption.

The original post was just that first line, but I then went back and wrote the second part to try and justify why I don't like the Nintendo version. My arms would not get tired of anything and I never stated they would. Stay with me here and I will try to explain why I, careful in your reply here KK that you don't miss that part, think it will be uncomfortable to hold the gun, not because of the weight (again...check this in your reply), but because of the akwardness of the layout.

If the Zapper were a real weapon, say a shotgun for instance, (yes, KK, I know it's not an actual weapon) and you were right handed, you would pull the trigger with your right hand, and hold the weapon with your left hand for steadiness and support. The Zapper is the opposite. You would fire with your left hand. I don't see myself trying to hold the Zapper this way because it goes against every control I've come comfortable with in shooters (left hand controls movement, right controls firing).

Because I would stick with this same layout, I would be holding the front part with my right hand (where the Wiimote goes) and that would cause the Zapper to be parallel to my right arm, almost resting against it. My left hand, more specifically, my fingers on my left hand, would be resting against my inner forearm because of the position of the Zapper, previously mentioned if you need to re-read it, and I can only imagine that my left hand would constantly be rubbing against my right arm.

I never said anything about the weight, I simply stated that it would be uncomfortable if this was the case. Go ahead with your rebutle but you are only arguing with yourself because I've clearly stated this as best I can. Agree or disagree, that's another subject but don't go making up arguments that aren't there in the first place. Therefore...victor: DS.

When I was in college, do you remember me telling you about my bi sexual roommate, Victor? All the times I would come back from the weekend and find the door locked, cause he had his boyfriend Josh over. :(

Info on the new Zelda game that comes free with the Wii Zapper

Nintendo has revealed more gameplay details for Link's Crossbow Training, the game that comes free with the Wii Zapper. Launched in the UK this year, you'll be using the Zapper in three modes in this new Zelda game: Target Shooting, Defender and Ranger.

In Target Shooting you'll use your crossbow to shoot bull's-eyes as they pop up on the screen. In the early stages the targets will be stationary but as the difficulty increases they will start moving. You'll get more points for hitting the centre of the bull's-eye and combo multipliers can be gained by hitting targets in succession.

Moving onto Defender, here you have to shoot down the enemies who are assaulting Link. They attack from all angles so you'll have to look and aim as you fight off skeletons in a desert and defend a wagon from boar-riding Bokoblins.

Finally there's Ranger. Here players move around the level using the control stick and aim with the Zapper as Link storms enemy encampments, fights through a forest and searches for enemies.

In addition to the single-player game you can also play Link's Crossbow Training with four friends as you shoot for the high scores.

I'd actually buy a time crisis game if it came with a nice zapper.
