and everyone hated the old Celtics, and Lakers Show time and evetunally turned on Jordan and the SF & Dallas dynsasties of the 80/90's. Don't forget the Steel "they wouldn't have done it w/o roid testing" curtain and the New York Yankees!.

All great franchises or Organizations are hated, otherwise if everyone kept rooting for the front runner what fun would it be?

I ask this only because I never see you post in nfl football threads.

Do you understand the rule, the history of the rule and what they did?

The whole "OMG THE PATRIOTS CHEATED!!!!!" thing is hilarious. They're doing exactly what every other sports team EVER in the history of any professional sport does. The only difference is the method in which they did it. People need to back off and worry about their own 0-2 teams before bitching about a team better than theirs.

They probably have the most well-rounded team this season that I have ever seen with the best chance to go undefeated.

I still don't think they'll do it, but they have the best chance...

@ Cincy will be a shootout that they could potentially lose.
@ Dallas two weeks later they COULD lose (PLEASE GOD LET THIS BE THE ONE!!!!)
@ Indy a few weeks after that. I'm thinking Indy might have their number (feels strange saying that).
@ Baltimore (I'm really sensing a Baltimore win here.)
Plus, they did lose to the Jets at home last season. It could happen again.

It's bound to be either Cincy, Dallas or Indy to give NE their first loss of the season.

Judging by how good the Steelers are surprising people this season, my bet is that Pittsburgh has the best chance to upset the Pats. They just beat what is a good team in the 49rs by a considerable margin and are 3-0 for the first time since former coach Bill Cowher's inagural season. Only allowed one TD going into this game, two afterwards, and Parker is having a hell of a year so far with three consecutive games with at least 100 yrds. rushing.

All the controversy aside, I'm figuring that the Pats are a good team (even though Moss shouldn't be in the game as I see it), but they won't go unbeaten. Colts, Ravens, and Steelers will have a good chance this year of killing any hopes of an unbeaten streak.

They aren't going undefeated..why the hell would someone even think that? This is the NFL , they can lose to anyone any week. They might go 15-1 though :|

The thing I love the most about the NFL fan base and all the broadcasters and analysts on tv is that immediately after every single game, every person acts like whatever just happened in that game is 100% guaranteed to happen every week for the rest of the season. There is no way that there is another sport in the world whose fans jump to conclusions quicker than football fans. Can we all please remember that the Pats are 3-0 against teams with a combined 2-7 record and they played the Chargers at home in SD's 2nd game with a new head coach, offensive coordinator, and defensive coordinator?

The talk of them going undefeated has nothing to do with what week of the season we're in.

Who cares if people want to talk about the chances of the best team in football going undefeated. It's not like anyone is talking undefeated season for every 3-0 team. It has nothing to do with records or what week we're in. It has to do with the fact that this years Pats are ARGUABLY the most well rounded team in recent history and therefore, seemingly have the best chance to go undefeated in quite some time regardless of who they have played. It's a fine topic of debate. I was discussing it before the season even started based simply on the talent they have.

I don't think they will go 16-0 but I won't go on a tirade if someone thinks differently cause they will have a valid point.

Jets ticket holder files $184M suit against Pats, Belichick

Sep. 28, 2007
CBSSports.com wire reports

NEW YORK -- A New York Jets season-ticket holder filed a class-action lawsuit Friday against the New England Patriots and coach Bill Belichick for "deceiving customers."

The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Newark, N.J., by Carl Mayer of Princeton Township, N.J., stems from the Patriots being caught illegally videotaping signals from Jets coaches in New England's 38-14 season-opening win Sept. 9.

"They violated the integrity of the game," Mayer's attorney, Bruce Afran, told the Associated Press. "This is a way of punishing Belichick and the Patriots."

Mayer, 48, is seeking more than $184 million in damages for Jets ticket holders.

Belichick was fined $500,000 by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, and the team was fined $250,000 for violating a league rule that prohibits clubs from using a video camera on the sidelines for any purpose -- including recording signals relayed to opposing players on the field. New England also must forfeit a first-round draft pick next year if it makes the playoffs or a second- and third-rounder if it doesn't.

"They were deceiving customers," Mayer said. "You can't deceive customers."

The lawsuit maintained that because other teams found illegal videotaping by the defendants, Jets ticket holders should be compensated for all games played in Giants Stadium between the Jets and Patriots since Belichick became head coach in 2000.

The two calculated that because customers paid $61.6 million to watch eight "fraudulent" games, they're entitled to triple that amount -- or $184.8 million -- in compensation under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act and the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act.

"How many times have the Patriots done this? We find it hard to believe they did it just once," Mayer said. "We just want to get to the truth of the matter of what the Patriots did to the Jets. I think the ticket holders are genuinely concerned about it. This is a type of misrepresentation."

Patriots spokesman Stacey James declined to comment on the lawsuit.

Mayer and Afran, who consider themselves public interest lawyers, have been thorns in the side of New Jersey politicians for years, filing lawsuits and demanding investigations to advance their grievances. They are well known in the state but generally have had little success in their causes.

Both have lost bids for elected offices, and Mayer once served as a presidential campaign adviser to Ralph Nader.

Their demand in March for a probe of Gov. Jon S. Corzine's gifts to a former girlfriend was rejected by a federal prosecutor. In 2006, a judge vetoed their effort to block Corzine's appointment of Rep. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., to fill the governor's seat in the U.S. Senate.

They also failed to get a court to order a special election to replace Gov. James E. McGreevey when he resigned in 2004.

Now, they're taking on the Patriots.

Their latest lawsuit asserted that the secret videotaping violated the contractual "expectations and rights" of Jets ticket holders "to observe an honest match played in compliance with all laws and regulations."

The actions of Belichick and the Patriots violated federal and state racketeering laws, as well as the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act and New Jersey Deceptive Business Practices Act, according to the lawsuit.

"Having been a lifelong Jets fan, as soon as I heard this, I was completely outraged," Mayer said. "The NFL just slapped them on the wrist. I'm a consumer lawyer, and this is consumer fraud."

i mentioned this in the nfl thread and no one commented.

anyway, they're going to lose. for starters they broke the rule once, this year, before this year it was never a rule.

Although, I wonder about the preceident if they do win, does that make the 49'ers and Broncos liable for when they were over the salary cap and got punished by the league?
