JOHN CENA INJURED IN RAW MAIN EVENT, FULL DETAILS
by Mike Johnson @ 12:10:21 AM on 10/2/2007
Details are still sketchy but the word coming from backstage at the Raw taping is that WWE champion John Cena is believed to have suffered a torn right pectoral muscle during his main event match against Ken Kennedy. He is tentatively scheduled to undergo a MRI tomorrow to examine the severity of the injury. I don't have to tell anyone reading this what a major blow this would be to the entire company if Cena needs to be out for any extended period of time.
The injury appeared to happen during a botched hiptoss on Kennedy that ended awkwardly with Kennedy landing atop Cena. Cena then nailed an armdrag. The two ended up in the corner, which led to a clean break. Cena backed up to the opposite corner and was obviously favoring his arm immediately. Cena gutted through the match and post-bout angle with Randy Orton, where he was laid out following a RKO on the announcer's table.
Cena is scheduled to main event the No Mercy PPV this Sunday in Chicago, Illinois against Orton in a Last Man Standing Match.

When I think about it...sure Cena could be injured and lose the belt to Orton this weekend....
But then what...Orton holds onto it for possibly 4 months or less till Cena returns and then loses it back to Cena for him to hold for another year...
With Jericho most probably returning this sunday at No Mercy, wouldn't it be the perfect opportunity for him to win the WWE Title in an Orton vs. Mystery Opponent main event?

If Orton gets rid of the spinner belt then it might be safe to say that Cena will not be champ for a while...
If the spinner belt stays then Cena will be champ again in a month or so..
On a sad note about this whole injury...if Cena is gone for a few months I guess that lessons the chance of fans ever getting to see a Cena heel turn...no doubt when they bring him back it will be as a super face.

Wow, the SmackDown curse may have finally hit RAW. I even said awhile back that all the SmackDown champs get injured, but why Cena never has. It appears that time has finally come. Now, I don't really like to see anyone injured, but it finally gets that title off of him.

They better throw Jericho into the match.
Shaggy
10-02-2007, 03:14 AM
If the return is Jericho then I would like to see something like this...
Orton nails the RKO on Cena.... 1....2...3...
Orton stands up and celebrates.....
Orton then sees Cena starting to get up and Nails him with another RKO...(you gotta make it look like Orton is injurying Cena)
Then suddenly the lights go out...and countdown image pops up..and either one of two things can happen from here..
1. The lights pop back on with Jericho standing in the entrance way doing his pose
2. A message appears at the end of the video saying "He" returns at Cyber Sunday...
Choice 2 sets up Orton Vs a Mystery Opponent for Cyber Sunday...but I would much rather have choice 1
This is the perfect chance to have several fake John Cenas come back (a cyborg, a sunglass-wearing hard-ass, a teenage Cena clone, and an armor-wearing Cena) to "claim the WWE title" as rightfully theirs.
This of course leads to the return of the real John Cena to kill the cyborg John Cena, who has already killed the sunglass-wearing hard-ass Cena.

Mr. Nerfect

This is a blessing in disguise. We need a break from Cena, and it looks like fate finally got tired of waiting for Vince to come to that decision on his own. I'm sure the WWE will protect Cena on his way out, so I really think they should have Mr. Kennedy and William Regal help out Orton at No Mercy, as they each have a bit of a beef with Cena. This also sets up programs for Cena when he returns.
Mr. Kennedy can get a boost from this, and claim to be responsible for Bobby Lashley and John Cena being on the shelf. It would be a great way to rebuild his heat. William Regal vs. John Cena is a match I really want to see, as Regal would get an entertaining match out of Cena, one way or another. Randy Orton as WWE Champion was never my favourite choice, but right now, it seems like a breath of fresh air. He shouldn't have a long run, as he's too risky as the top guy of the company, but a short one could do wonders for him, and the WWE.
Imagine this: Randy Orton wins at No Mercy, with the finishing blow being his "concussion kick". John Cena not only loses the WWE Title, but is taken out on a stretcher. Randy Orton poses on the turnbuckle, as Mr. Kennedy and William Regal applaud Randy Orton in their own way. Suddenly we get another cryptic video, and a message saying "Salvation may come as early as tomorrow..."
The next night on RAW, William Regal comes out to present Randy Orton with a new WWE Title belt, because John Cena's belt is an insult to everything William Regal and this sport represent. Randy Orton cuts a meandering promo, and in the main event, Regal books Randy Orton against Cody Rhodes in Orton's first defence. Cody Rhodes is selected because at No Mercy, I assume Rhodes would play a hero and try to balance out the heel forces, only to get overwhelmed. During that match, Orton dominates (of course), but Cody makes some comebacks and Hardcore Holly even comes out to provide some level of mental support. Randy Orton eventually gets the clean win with the RKO, and retains his WWE Championship successfully. Randy Orton poses in the ring like the dick he is, when suddenly another video pops on the titantron. It throws out some messages about saving, and then it begins to count down. When it reaches zero, someone jumps through the crowd, and nails Randy Orton from behind with a steel chair. The assailant is masked, but is going to town on Orton with the steel chair. He then gets a microphone, takes off his mask and says "Ricky Morton...Welcome to...RAW...IS...JERICHO!"

On the ultimate dream WrestleMania card, there will always be room for a John Cena vs. Umaga vs. Kevin Nash "Hip Toss of Doom vs. Finger Poke of Doom vs. Finger Poke of Doom Match." It may seem like a mismatch, as John Cena's Hip Toss of Doom only really finishes himself, but Kevin Nash would tear his quad, which leads one to assume Umaga would get the victory by default.

Haha, after I heard it was in a match with Mr. Kennedy, I figured Ken would take the blame.
Alright, so let's say that not only is John Cena down, but he's out, and there is no way he can work No Mercy. What do you do? What change do you make to save the card? Do you have Randy Orton face a mystery opponent for the WWE Championship? Do you pull the trigger on Chris Jericho's return, and have him win in a surprise? Do you ring up Mick Foley, and get him in to do a show? Do you have some kind of Battle Royal featuring the talent not booked?
There are so many ways the WWE could take this, that I am actually intrigued. A Battle Royal featuring all the talent not booked sounds like a lot of fun, as Battle Royals are very rarely done on PPVs. Some might feel cheated out of a Last Man Standing Match, however.

Well knowing Cena, regardless if you like him or not, does show up for work. So I'm guessing he'll at LEAST wrestle Sunday.
He probably will, but with congress on the WWE, and the chance that reports are saying that the injury is not looking good and that the WWE is making the appropriate modifications to No Mercy (or something along those lines), it's possible that he won't. It's very likely that he will, however.
He already has my respect for going in there and wrestling. He may not be doing it well, at present, but he does put his body at relative risk (he works a very safe style). I'd rather see him not go out there and put his body on pointless strain, however. He'll be willing to work the match, but I don't think the WWE should let him.
Kane Knight
10-02-2007, 10:56 AM
Yeah, it is questionable as to whether or not WWE would be smart to schedule him for the PPV, what with Congress being interested in the wellness program, drugs, and worker safety.
I'm sure that he, like about 80% of the rest of the roster would work it if at all possible. I'm not even sure why Scot thinks we should give him props for that, since almost everyone else in the business, including lazy fucks like Taker, have worked through injuries before, and many of them shouldn't have (Batista, Rey Rey, Angle) and were stupid to have done so.
The list of wrestlers who have worked through an injury, even if you limit it to a fairly serious one is pretty long. This isn't a feather in your cap, it's generally an indication that you're a greedy little carnie. It's also bad for business, because it greatly increases the amount of time you need to heal more often than not.
But I digress.
It's probably a bad idea to offer up an injured wrestler right now.
Innovator
10-02-2007, 11:01 AM
He's going to James Andrews to get tested, see if he can work the PPV.
This is what can happen if WWE invests solely in one guy...I guess Trips is getting the title sooner than later.
If Cena can work, Orton is obviously going over.
If he can't, I'd say their best bet is to have Vince strip Cena and put whoever the "Savior" is in his spot.
Either way it gets the belt off Cena, and I can't complain about that.

10-02-2007, 11:15 AM
Cena needs to drop the title to someone, or else what is the point of having a title riegn like that?
If he can't work he can't work. I suppose, if they HAD to, they could have Orton KO him right off the bat, but either way he needs to drop it, can't have an essentially vacant title for a month or more, depending on how serious it is.

Id set up an 7 man tourney for the vacant title
Orton (considering he was the #1 contender)
Bye
Hardy
Carlito
HHH
Umaga
Foley
Kennedy
Id have Hardy go over Carlito. Id have HHH lose to Umaga by Kennedy interference, and then vice versa having HHH having Kennedy lose to Foley. Thus starting the big HHH/Kennedy feud for down the line. In the semifinals Id have Orton beat Hardy and Foley beat Umaga. Then for the finals they could hype as can Foley get the WWE title one more time?????? Regal comes out and makes the title final a hardcore match. In a match thats almost as great as their Backlash 04 match, Orton wins the title by beating Foley. Orton gives an in-ring promo after the match bragging. Then one more video appears and the theme music hits and Jericho comes out and gives a promo. Thus with the tourney you can start a Jericho/Orton World Title feud, and the lengthy HHH/Kennedy/McMahon feud.

Last time I checked, you have to defend a title once every 90 days to retain. So, depending on his condition, he can be out for a for 2 months then come back and make a defence against a push over.

Yeah, there are a certain set of fact rules about that kind of crap. It has been mentioned before that you have 90 days to defend your title before the promotion can choose to strip you of the title.
Also, speaking of stripping the title, where the hell was Coach this week? And why didn't Vince give a crap about Cena still being champ this week. Damn WWE and its plot holes. And I'm possitive that Regal would have had no problem with stripping Cena this week, as Cena was the one that put Regal off TV for a month.

where the hell was Coach this week? And why didn't Vince give a crap about Cena still being champ this week.
Vince played up Coach’s supposed “injury” (come on, people!) as a result of him being put through a table last week. And to your other question, maybe Vince decided he better not test Hornswoggle again after giving him authority to make “executive decisions” or whatever the fuck, last week, and decided to let “Mr. McMahon (Jr.)” ’s decision stand. As for why Regal wouldn’t do anything about it, honestly, I have no clue, as you said he had every reason to be pissed at Cena. Maybe he foresaw the injury coming in the Kennedy match, and watched the main event backstage with Snitsky, as Cena's pain, on that night became both of their pleasures...:shifty:

No Mercy will represent the end of an era for John Cena and the beginning of a new one for one Superstar as a new WWE Champion will be crowned.
For more than a year, John Cena proudly held the WWE Championship. He turned back all challengers, but an injury brought an end to his nearly 13-month title reign. Cena suffered a complete tear of his right pectoral tendon during a match with Mr. Kennedy on Raw. Because of the seriousness of the injury, WWE officials will not allow Cena to compete in his scheduled Last Man Standing Match with Randy Orton at No Mercy, and had no choice but to surrender the title.
Cena’s injury represents a new opportunity for several WWE Superstars. Orton has shown that he will do anything for the WWE Championship. Mr. Kennedy has long said that he is the future of WWE and believes he has a point to prove. And what about Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy, who has received very few WWE Championship opportunities in his career? Or does Cena’s injury represent a new opportunity for a Superstar who is not a member of the Raw locker room?
Details at this time are unclear. One thing is certain, however: There will be a WWE Championship Match this Sunday at No Mercy, and a new WWE Champion will be crowned.
Who will be the next WWE Champion? The only way to find out is to catch No Mercy, live on pay-per-view on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 8/7 CT. Stay with WWE.com for more updates on No Mercy and the WWE Championship Match as they become available.

This could be WWEs opportunity to end the RAW/Smackdown roster split.
Hold up the WWE title until Cyber Sunday, and make a "fans vote" as to which kind of match to have. The numbers add up to a 40 man over the top rope battle royal, and have whoever is WHC, as long as it's not Khali, win the WWE title, and unify the titles.

Hey I dont want to start an online fight or whatever, but I'm just saying what I've heard from several several wrestling "Sources". Plus you said it yourself, he came in SECOND. As much as I love Big Stevie Cool, you cant argue with 1'st and 2nd.

You seem to be trying very hard for a Devil's Advocate position. So much so that you seem to keep comingback[sic] to Cena Strawmen.
Strawman? Go ahead and expand on that if you please.
I keep reading how people feel Cena is a ratings killer. Well then, if that's the case, with someone else at the helm, things should go up. If removing what people consider a root problem there should be a change. That's science, baby.
And I keep coming back to it? Well that's news to me. I believe this is the first time I ever addressed this subject of Cena and ratings.

Why Depush him though?
That would make him the second most popular choice. Why not take that as a hint and give him a different push?
There's no logical reasoning behind depushing someone who's doing well in such a poll (Or in Hero's Devil's Advocate Strawmen). Now, I understand there can only be one son in this storyline, but surely, this should be a hint.
WWE doesn't give a shit about these polls. They're meant to placate people.
