New Japan and Total Nonstop Action (TNA) will go to war on 1/4 at the Tokyo Dome! President Sugabayashi and Tiger Hattori held a press conference last night to discuss the 1/4 show, and the president announced that after Kurt Angle defeated Brock Lesnar for the IWGP 3rd Belt, New Japan had asked TNA to return it. TNA offered no response, so New Japan sent Hattori to speak with Jeff Jarrett about it. This is where sides agreed that the best way for New Japan to regain its property would be in the form of a war with TNA at "WRESTLE KINGDOM IN TOKYO DOME II" on January 4th, 2008. Sugabayashi outlined his intention to have the IWGP belts defended on the show, as well as TNA's X Division Title. Depending on other matters, the 1/4 card could become a complete confrontation war between New Japan and TNA. Sugabayashi wants the IWGP 3rd Belt back and acknowledged the abnormality of having two titles with practically the same name. Kurt Angle will return to New Japan, holding the title Brock Lesnar left with. But who will step up to the plate and risk his company's name to try and take down one of the world's most famous pro wrestlers?

Holy shit! I would love to see Yuji Nagata vs. Kurt Angle, but I think they are hinting towards it being an up-and-coming star. The card will probably look like:

* Yuji Nagata vs. top TNA star for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship
* Kurt Angle vs. NJPW wrestler for the "IWGP" World Heavyweight Championship
* TNA X-Division Champion (Jay Lethal?) vs. top NJPW junior heavyweight for the TNA X-Division Championship

Nagata will retain his belt (probably against Jarrett), Angle will lose his, and the X-Division Champion will get put over by a top junior heavyweight. That's just pure speculation, though.

Nagata is no longer the IWGP champ. He dropped the belt to Hiroshi Tanahashi on 10/8.

A lot of people are thinking they're going to do Tanahashi Vs Nakamura, and Angle Vs Nagata.

If they don't do Nagata Vs Angle, they could have Makabe fight him.... Or they'd go with someone like Tenzan or Chono.

Tanahashi vs. Jarrett would be the biggest waste of time and talent ever seen in a single match. If anything they should let Tanahashi get his win back from AJ Styles or even have him defend against Christian Cage.

What Would Kevin Do?

I doubt they'll put Tanahashi against Jarret.

Likewise, AJ Styles would be retarded. They aren't going to put the IWGP champ up against someone who's essentially a midcarder.

This is a Dome show, so it's going to be stacked with big matches.

Ah, I honestly did not know about the title change. In that case, I'd go with Kurt Angle vs. Yuji Nagata for the "IWGP" World Heavyweight Championship. I'm actually thinking that Samoa Joe will be TNA World Heavyweight Champion by the time these shows come around, so he could defend the belt against a top NJPW name. Tanahashi could also defend against a TNA guy, I'm just trying to think of who it could be (and not suck).

Both IWGP Heavyweight Titles will be defended at the Tokyo Dome on January 4th, when New Japan runs "WRESTLE KINGDOM II IN TOKYO DOME". After TNA failed to suggest a suitable challenger, Hiroshi Tanahashi will make his V2 defense of the "official" IWGP Heavyweight Title against the winner of Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Togi Makabe, which is set for the 12/9 Nagoya show. Many believe a brand new "Big 4" system of Tanahashi, Nakamura, Makabe, and Goto has begun in New Japan, the four headlining many shows and being put in the leadership roles, and whatever match takes place on January 4th will continue the new generation revolution. The long awaited dream match of Yuji Nagata vs. Kurt Angle will also take place as Nagata attempts to pry back the IWGP 3rd Belt from the man who defeated Brock Lesnar for it. This match between friends is likely to be the biggest feature of the Dome show. Nagata said that quite simply Kurt Angle is the strongest pro wrestler he has ever had to face in his life, and this will be his ultimate challenge. And in the other match announced today, monsters from two continents collide as Manabu Nakanishi goes to war with TNA savage, Abyss. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion, Taguchi, said he wants to defeat Wataru Inoue in his next defense on 12/9 and defend against a TNA X Division wrestler on January 4th.

Yeah. It might be good for old guard vs new guard purposes. People claim Tomko's work in Japan has been good, but I haven't seen much of it that I got into.

Although the idea of Minoru/ Milano Collection and AJ Styles, and Inoue vs Daniels should be damn good.

Bubba and Makabe should pair off real well.

And Angle's going to die.

But if he did, it's more reason to love The GB. Tomko is actually pretty solid these days. I really like him as a character, too, not that it helps much in the ring. Bernard & Tomko could have way better opponents, but this match might actually draw in Japan.

Part of me hopes that Christopher Daniels can't make the show, and Wataru Inoue has to defend against a substitute challenger...

Anyway, I'm curious to see who does go over in Nagata Vs Angle. Either way, sooner or later Angle is dropping a match.

The show is about to start. 3,000 yen (cheap) seats sold out before kickoff. Second floor is again closed off like last year, but most of the opened seats are full. American style entrances and the TNA wrestlers are being introduced in English. Very fast paced opener, the fans enjoyed it a lot. Thumbtacks galore in the third match, Nakanishi winning with two German suplexes. The Alliance won the eight man tag, Tanaka lariating Taguchi and Yoshie following up with a diving body press. The teams brawled post-match, with the emphasis on Tanaka vs. Kanemoto. The hardcore tag match was very good, with 3D impressing the Japanese fans. They super powerbombed Yano through a table, then 3D'd Makabe for the win. 20 minute intermission. Muta pins a bloody Goto to return to New Japan in triumph. Jeff Jarrett made an appearance before the tag title match and was met with boos. Scott Steiner managed an avalanche-style Frankensteiner and after the referee went down, JJ intruded with his guitar, but Makabe & Yano got involved and Yano took the guitar shot. Bernard & Tomko went on to finish Rick with their Magic Killer. Bernard shouting "NEW JAPAN ICHIBAN!" on the microphone after the match. Angle retains his IWGP 3rd Belt over Nagata in what was described as a fantastic match worthy of the occasion. Nakamura finally begins his second reign, pinning Tanahashi in an outstanding main event. Back to back world class matches to end the Dome show! Kurt Angle appeared after the main event and all the signs were there for Nakamura vs. Angle - the unification match!

I saw that one. I can see why it was the main event.

Yeah... I just hope Tanahashi stays on top. The progress this guy has made recently has been amazing, and I loved his match with Goto earlier this year.

Shinsuke Nakamura will attempt to "take the world" on February 17th when he faces Kurt Angle to determine the true IWGP Heavyweight Champion. Nakamura's 2nd generation title and Angle's 3rd generation title will be on the line in this unification match, with so much at stake. It is a chance for Nakamura to establish himself as a special New Japan ace with 2008 beginning, taking down a man with the highest rank available in professional wrestling - global fame, a golden background, and plenty of results and titles to show for his pro wrestling career. If Nakamura wins, it will go down as his first defense, and if Angle wins, he will become the 49th champion on the official title history. The 1/27 Korakuen card sees two junior title matches headline, the top one being Wataru's V2 defense of the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title against the man he lifted the belt from, Taguchi. Wataru is hoping to win this match and defend his newly acquired title in TNA and other organizations. Meanwhile, RISE has the chance of grabbing its third IWGP title when Minoru & Devitt challenge the all-star team of Dick Togo & TAKA Michinoku for the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title. New Japan vs. ZERO1-MAX continues on the same card, stemming off Kanemoto and Tanaka's heated exchanges yesterday, in a tag match, while El Samurai returns after a lengthy injury in the opener, a Black Cat memorial tag. Four more matches were also announced for the upcoming LOCK UP show at Korakuen, each following the New Japan vs. Indie Alliance theme that the bigger matches have. Also, the mystery opponents for Koshinaka's return match have been announced as Voodoo Murders' TARU & YASSHI.
