since a ton of trades are going down now we might as well just use one thread.

Nedved and Jussi are goin to the oilers for second round pick and a goalie prospect

Good idea.

Hmmmmm so far we have Kovalev to the Canadiens, Gonchar to the Bruins, Dempsey to the Kings, Jagr to the Rangers (I suppose that's recent enough to be fitted in here), Zhamnov to the Flyers, Burke to the Flyers, Kozlov to the Devils...

No real big goalie trades yet (apart from the Burke deal), so it'll be interesting to see what happens there.

Kolzig to the Avs perhaps????

Could happen. :shifty:

Do you think Manny Fernandez will be dealt? I doubt it now that the Wilds playoff chances are all but dead.

wouldn't shock me to see the avs pick up fernandez

road doggy dogg
03-03-2004, 06:59 PM
Oh yeah, forgot to add the Lang deal to that list.

Anyways, I think the Avs are definitely going to get another goalie. Fernandez would make more sense than Kolzig though, since they'd likely wanna get a backup, instead of a starter, and they wouldn't wanna pay top dollar for someone like Kolzig for that role.

BCWWF
03-03-2004, 07:37 PM
I don't think Manny will be traded anymore, earlier in the year it looked like the Wild were going to need another offensive threat going into the playoffs, but since that doesn't look likely I assume they will keep Fernandez and start working for next year.

Maple Leafs acquire Brian Leetch

TSN.ca Staff

3/3/2004

The New York Rangers have parted ways with one of the franchise's most celebrated players, trading veteran defenceman Brian Leetch to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Maxim Kondratiev, Jarkko Immonen and draft picks, pending a trade call with the NHL, TSN has learned.

Leetch spent all 16 seasons of his NHL career in New York, with more than 1,100 games played with the Blueshirts.

A two-time Norris Trophy winner as the league's top defenceman, Leetch was remembered most for his performance in the 1994 Stanley Cup playoffs when he led all skaters with 11 goals and 23 assists in 23 playoff games. He was named the 1994 Conn Smythe Trophy winner as Most Valuable Player in the postseason after helping lead the Rangers to their first Stanley Cup since 1940.

Leetch, 36, has another year on his contract at $6.4 million US.

More to follow.

And I thought Petr Nedved coming to the Oilers was big enough today - but Leetch becoming a Leaf? That's news.

I am still wondering why the Oilers would sign him? What's the story on Nedved, is he good?

I too hope the Avs get another goalie - want to see the Cup being carried by Sakic again :D

its all good, as long as we get the one.

Plus all your Naslund's and Bertuzzi's will be in Blue and White when the Canucks cant afford them.

And in all seriousness the Leafs have some guys on The Rock and with the big club who are decent enough prospects. The rest can be bought, because as Ted Dibiase taught us, everybody's got a price.

Only scary thing for the Leafs is where do they go with their Goaltending. If Eddie leaves after this year we could be in some trouble.

Blair Betts was a huge goal scorer in the WHL. He had some knee problems even in the WHL and some early in his NHL carreer. If he can ever get his shit together and even put up a third of the #'s he did in juniors he'll do well.

The only problem I really see is I have to hate him now.

Doesn't help that a lot of cool trades went down like days and weeeks before the deadline.

It's weird seeing two teams just totally selling off everything.

What, not a mention that the Avs got a backup goalie or anything? Oh wait, that's my apathy for Salo leaving...:D

It was active until today but wow, the Rangers of old will no longer be. I'd hate to have season tickets for that team now. I'd pay a tenth of that ticket and still see the same quality team playing in the minors.

Good for the Canucks to get some forewards, great for the Leafs to grab some players. The Avs have Aeb-Salo. And LA gets Carter. Still getting my head around Nedved being here though...

In the past couple of weeks they picked up Kozlov and Hrdina

Woopie.... Lamarello normally makes bigger trades... they needed a defenceman because of Stevens' injury, and now tonight Rafalski gets hurt again.

Anyways the Habs better get past the first round, then I'll be happy.

I wonder what the Canucks' lines will look like. Assuming that Bertuzzi can come back this season, here is what I'm thinking........

Left Wing
M.Naslund Morrison T.Bertuzzi
D.Sedin H.Sedin T.Linden
M. Rucinsky A.Chubarov G.Sanderson
B.May M.Cooke J.Ruutu

M.Lindgren
M.Keane

Left Defense
M.Ohlund E.Jovanoski
B.Sopel S.Salo
B.Allen M.Malik

D.Cloutier
A.Auld

Sanderson's a LW

Yeah - that's what I figured. On CNNSI though (where I got the depth chart from), he was listed as a RW.

As far as Rucinsky goes, does he have experience as a Center? I know that he usually plays wing, but is he any good as a Centermen?

I wouldn't mind seeing Sanderson-Rucinsky-Linden form a line if that's true. If Rucinsky doesn't play center, then have Linden play center (Rucinsky then moves to RW). Linden has played center quite a bit, but he's better as a RW.

I also think that Matt Cooke should get rewarded and play on the 1st line with Naslund and Morrison. Cooke doesn't have Bertuzzi's offensive skill, but he's just as gritty. Only difference between Cooke and Bertuzzi, is that Cooke isn't a gutless coward that attacks people from behind, and then cries about it afterwards in press conferences. :nono: :'(
