DISCUSSION - How would YOU push Eddie Guerrero as the WWE Champion?
Here's what I've been thinking: We all know that Guerrero's "lie, cheat, and steal" gimmick has worked wonders right? I think it would be cool if Guererro continued this. For example - at Wrestlemania, have Guerrero cheat to win.......a super serious and whiney Kurt Angle will complain about it, but the fans will be completely behind Eddie. Guerrero then picks up the win. Same thing happens again next month. Angle slowly starts to get the upper hand in the match, but Guerrero "lies, cheats, and steals" his way to victory (much to the chagrin of Heyman and Angle).
After his feud with Angle concludes and he moves on to Brock Lesnar, same sort of deal. Lesnar starts to get the upper-hand, but Eddie works his magic.
The reason why I feel that this may be the best way to push Eddie, is because it may not be completely 'believable' that Eddie Guerrero can go out there and completely decimate a Kurt Angle or a Brock Lesnar. Guerrero's gimmick has always had that slight 'comedic' side to him anyways. Seeing guys like Angle, Lesnar, and Heyman get all worked up would be funny as well.
The only potential problems I see with this:
1) The fans may not take Guerrero seriously as a champion.
2) It could make Guerrero's reign look like a joke (i.e. like when Jericho won the title, and when Angle first won his title).
I'm not sure though - Will the fans' buy Eddie as a 'serious' champ? Will it look plausible if Eddie cleanly defeats guys like Angle and Lesnar?

I definately think he should continue to cheat and what not. There are 'cool' ways to cheat in a match that keeps you face. For example, if Angle were to bring a chair into the ring, and then miss with it, then Eddie grabs it and uses it on Kurt, he will get a pop and not heat.
However, the stuff Eddie does is usually more along the lines of tricking the ref, like by bringing in a weapon and saying his opponent hit him with it, ref goes to confront the opponent and Eddie takes advantage with a roll up or something.
Its a fine line, he has to look credible, but they also shouldn't go too far away from the gimmick that got him over to this point.

Yeah - that's what I mean. I was wondering if Eddie should keep doing that (i.e. 'outsmarting refs'), or should he be booked to win without doing that (to look more credible). I'd go with the former.

I think he should cheat to win on angle then beat him fair in the next match against him. If not that have him beat hardcore fair and square.

You lead me up to a good point. Have Eddie cleanly defeated mid-carders and jobbers (without lying, cheating, and stealing). So yes - a clean pinfall victory over Hardcore Holly would be appropriate. Just keep the 'lie/cheat/steal' stuff for Angle, Lesnar, and Big Show.

He's gotta do it in a way that makes him seem ingenious, the fans love a quick witted face.

True. It's a perfect situation when you think about. If Angle, Lesnar, and Big Show all come across as super 'uptight' and 'serious' and get outsmarted (combined with Heyman's whining), it will make Guerrero look even cooler.

Exactly. The fans get pissed off when the face looks like a jackass and gets cheated, for once the tide has finally turned and the fans love it.
I remember when they tried to turn him heel in the middle of last year when he threw Tajiri through the Lowrider or something, the fans loved it. They were having none of his heel turn, and then even better was during the US title tourney, he cracked gunn over the head with a chair and played possum, they tried to make him look like a coward, and again the fans went ballistic. The fans dig the lying, cheating and stealing, because it makes old Eddie smarter than the rest.

Against bigger wrestlers like Angle, Lesnar, and Big Show I could see how booking Eddie to beat them using his smarts. But with Eddie, it's a perfect opportunity to get some of the CW's in the Main Event, as well. A series of **** matches with guys like Ultimo Dragon and Rey for the WWE Title like those matches they had in WCW would strengthen Eddie's credibility and show fans what CW's are really capable of.
I love the "lie, cheat, and steal" gimmick. It's much more charismatic than his recent "former alcoholic" gimmick that seems to be the paramount focus of the Eddie/Angle feud.
It gives the main event scene something more interesting than: "I'm the greatest World/WWE Champion ever."[/Brock][/HHH]

I think that Eddie should do a little bit of both. Eddie can plausibly beat a guy like Angle. Kurt isn't exactly a huge superheavyweight. Eddie needs to get a clean win over Kurt when it counts. But if the two of them have tag matches or something, then cheating for the victory would be perfect. Or if Kurt were to try and cheat first, then Eddie could outsmart him or something? Having Eddie lie cheat and steal is an original gimmick, and is very entertaining at times. But don't make it look like Eddie isn't capable of winning fairly.
Eddie's match against Brock is a great example of how to book Eddie. Eddie didn't really look like he was dominant or better than Brock. But he looked like he was capable of beating him (even without the Goldberg interference) He looked like he would never quit, and he just looked all around strong in that match. Eddie doesn't need to look like he is weak as a champ.
Whoever thinks that Eddie might not look credible as champ, I think that the fact that Eddie is possibly the most over guy in WWE right now makes him pretty credible.
