Wrestlers like The Rock, SCSA, Crow Sting and that whole storyline, the nWo, DX, BATB '96, The Wolfpack, Austin coming in the arena with the truck, E&C, TLC matches, man there are soooo much more. Man, that right there alone is shit you pass on to your kids. My dad used to tell me about Ali and how he was more than just a boxer.
I'm jI'm just glad i didn't miss it. Ppl, old skool, talk about the 80's with Hogan, Savage,
Flair, etc. I think our era was better tbh.
Type w/e you feel. I had to get that out there.

I’m glad the attitude era came along, I got on board when business was stale around 92/93 and I felt that they owed me for Mania 9, The attitude era (only just) made up for that 1 PPV

I started watching when I was like 4/5, around 89/90. So the best memories I have are marking out like fuck for Hogan when I was little, and even more so for pretty much anything in the attitude era when I was a teenager.
That shit made a great deal of my childhood because it was so good and all my friends watched it too. I can still talk about the attitude era to people who don't watch any more, and these people will still play the newer smackdown games when they come over, as long as they play as The Rock, Austin, Undertaker etc. Because its the great stuff they remember.
If friends who used to watch it come over when I watch now, they'll ask what the hell happened to it, because it used to be so awesome in like 98-2000 when they watched it.
I totally agree with Vegas. To me, 97-01 completly owns the stuff from the 80s to me. If I dig out the Wrestlemania Anthology, its usually the late 90's ones I'll put on. It was good shit.
I miss the WWF :'(

I dunno.
NWA Jim Crockett vs Attitude Era would be very close.

I'm actually the opposite. I own all the Mania's (not the anthology) but I'll pull out 3,4, 5,6,7,8 before anything else

I think its because I remember them live, and its more reminicent than anything. Maybe I'll give the older ones a try, and give some feedback. I might be suprised.

97-2001 AND 86-92 are probably my favorite consecutive years

Basically missing out anything current and the WWF 'cartoon era' then.

Like, how you felt when Mankind got thrown off the cage, or when Jericho won that quick title win, or when the Rock return for the first time in Philly, The TIT ladder match b/t the Hardys and E&C. Those were some pretty good damn times, and i've only mention above about 2.95% of it.
Remember when The Rock slid and gave the People's Elbow to British Bulldog (RIP). I think it was him; it was on Smackdown!

Yeah the youtube of that is flying around somewhere, I think on the Q&A section. It was the Bulldog. But yeah, good times. A lot of it is due to the wrestlers not having alot of freedom now, promos being scripted and things being forced down our throats.
Back in the day, the Rock got boed, so he was turned heel. It made sense. And the talent could react to the fans or reel off anything they felt related to the characters situation. I miss all that, there just isn't a 'feel' to it anymore.

That sliding People's Elbow to Davey Boy was my favorite People's Elbow of all time. I don't know why...also I went out and bought the exact same shirt he was wearing that night (it was a black short sleeve collar shirt which I can't fit into anymore :().
Anyway, The Attitude Era was incredible. I think as far as sheer enjoyment, Jim Crockett in the late 80's tops it, but only because I was a markish kid and loved Ric and Tully. The Attitude Era allowed me to really get into wrestling, rediscover my love for it, and in a way enjoy it on a level I had never enjoyed it before. I remember marking out during the AE, despite being a very well knowledged smark by then. I can't recall too many times after 1990 that I really marked out bad, and not just for people I loved, hell I marked out for guys like Godfather back then. It was like something inside my brain that knew all the backstage stuff just turned off and I got to enjoy it like new again.

I still mark out when I watch RAW's from 97-00. And I still mark out when I watch Mick Foley win the WWF World Title for the first time.

I took everything for granted back then. wrestling was so popular. it was the topic of coversation in high school for christ sakes. a few years later, you had to look if anybody was around first before mentioning wrestling.

Man, what makes it so bad is that this is happening when guys like HHH are on top. Like i said, i have no bad beef with him because he was a good heel back then, but every era has people that you remember and makes that era special.
How the hell can you have one of the biggest dream angles in wrestling history (InVasion) with all of that talent and NOT EVEN a year later loose so much fanbase. Who was on top then? But the demise of WCW had to do with that too.
Personally, i see the new wave coming in right before my eyes and it looks like a great bunch. This past RAW was one of the most consistent and entertaining RAWs in a while. There have been some good ones, but this one made me create this topic. Hardy is WAY over and will be part of the future of the business, Rhodes, Benjamin, Carlito, MVP, Edge, Cena, CM, Morrison, Santino, EVEN the women's wrestling has been decent lately with additions like Candice, Mickie, Melina, and Phoenix; all going to be there and i have confidence in that new wave. Plus, you'll still have people like AJ Styles, Joe, Christian, and others that could either come to the WWE or give them a run for their money and bring the entertainment back. The good thing about these guys is that most are pretty over, or almost there, and won't have to "develop" as much.
I just wish Benoit and Eddie could've been those "veteran" guys to put the younger ones over in those Main Event fueds. Could you imagine a Eddie v. CM Punk or Carlito fued? Man, i miss those guys.

I think I was young during the majority of the attitude era, and even when I saw it I cant remember alot of it. You guys are lucky :( the only way I can live through it is Youtube and buying DVD's *shudders*

If the unfortunate Chris Benoit business had not gone down, he would have made CM Punk into a star. The plan was obviously for them to work a program, and it would have been greatness.
Also, Santino Marella is a case of the WWE listening to the fans, and look at how well it has been received. He came in as a shitty-written babyface, and then the fans let the WWE know they didn't want to see it, and the WWE reacted by turning him heel. Funny how it worked, wasn't it?
I actually hated wrestling...thought it was it was stupid as a kid. However, some friends started to get me into it at the end of 1997 when the Attitude Era was about to pop. Really got into it then and was glad to be watching it during that time. Every week I would want to tune in to find out what was going on...though now it's just a filler for Monday Nights when Heroes is at a commercial. :-\

Yeah, the episodic booking is not that great. You never feel pulled along by a story. Honestly, the closest the WWE has come in recent weeks is the Hardcore Holly vs. Cody Rhodes storyline. I'll also give credit to the Santino Marella vs. Val Venis storyline. Everything else seems self-contained.

Exactly, I used to love how they kinda taunted you at the end of Raw, as if to say 'you have to tune in next week to see how this turns out!' Now every segment seems to be concluded within the two hour raw, but each one adds towards a growing storyline. Its like WWE has turned into a sitcom or something.

They just need to let the stars be themselves or have more freedom with the scripts. They are just afraid that HHH will be OUTSHINED. I swear yo, this 'holding back' and 'script-written' promo shit for some reason has to do with HHH. I mean can you imagine how bad Cena would've made HHH look if he was the Cena of Smackdown!...:y:
