View Full Version : TNA trying to trademark Raven's name
From PWinsider.com
- In October 2006 Raven filed a notice of opposition over TNA Wrestling’s registration of the “RAVEN” trademark. Last month TNA sent an answer responding to the opposing claims made by Raven. TNA has asked the judge to dismiss Raven’s notice and allow the company to register the trademark.
What are they kidding? I mean even with the Dudley Boyz and WWE, WWE can clam to raise the name value of the Dudley name by 10 fold. TNA on the other hand did nothing with the Raven name or it's value. Raven made his name famous while working for WCW, WWE, and even ECW. All TNA has done is sponge off what value is left in that name, and now they're trying to steal it away from Raven because he worked there a few years...what balls.

Dickhead move by TNA.
What the hell is the point of taking his name at this point in his career? He is some budding star that they don't want to take off and get pushed to the moon in WWE?

Doesn't Scott Levy own the "Raven" name, considering he's used it in every company he's worked for?

I think TNA ar just trying to show that they're bigger than what people think, but the reality is they're not that big and they don't realize how idiotic this makes them look.

Meh, WWE would end up calling him Marcus Ray Von anyways. :shifty:

Technically, all you need to do to "own" your name is to use it. However, from a legal perspective, you may have a lot of problems unless you register it as a trademark. I couldn't find any listing of an acual Raven trademark on behalf of Scott Levy.
He should be able to beat any challenge though, unless some agreement was reach wth TNA.

I realize your joking, but I want to use it to make a further point. Raven is to Scott Levy as Cactus Jack is to Mick Foley. Mick Foley was famous as Mankind in WWE, but he was famous as Cactus Jack too which he played previous to WWE, and played while in WWE. Now Raven has been in the WWE before under names other than Raven, such as Johnny Polo...but who cares. He'll always be a bigger name as Raven than any other character, and even played as Raven for a few years in WWE anyway. It's a name he's created, he owns, and has made it big with in multiple companies bigger than TNA. Unless Raven made some sort of written agreement to hand over his trademarks, they have no ground to trademark his name.

Yea, it is possible...The Dudleys forgot to trademark their name and paid for it. Still, it's a real asshole move...especially to do to a man who is still on their roster.
Oh well, guess if Michael Jackson can own the Beatle's music catalog, TNA might be able to get away with this.

Oh, sure, it's an ashole thing to do and all, but they might get away with it. IT's unlikely to happen, but this is one of the reasons more wrestlers should trademark their names.

Yeah. This is a stupid thing to them to do.
And I like others thought Scott Levy should of had this trademarked a long time ago.

He may have. There are like a thousand Raven-related trademarks. I may have missed it. But the fact that TNA's trademark has gotten this far indicates to me that no, he hasn't.

Scott Levy already owns the "Raven" name, and has since 1999.

My guess is TNA is trying to trademark his name for use on merchandise. :?:

I'm gonna try and get a trademark on the name "Max Moon". I see nothing but good things coming from it.
