It's time we have a thread for this. Less then 2 weeks away! Now that I have Call of Duty 4 this is my next most anticipated game. The graphics on this from what i've seen are amazing.
Could this be the best graphics ever in a video game?

Set 200 years in the future in an epic universe, Mass Effect places gamers in a vast galactic community in danger of being conquered by a legendary agent gone rogue. A spectacular new vision from legendary developers BioWare, Mass Effect challenges players to lead a squad of freedom fighters as they struggle against threatening armies to restore peace in the land.
Mass Effect is the first in a trilogy of games with an overarching story. As the first human Specter – sworn defenders of galactic peace – your mission is to halt the advancing armies of a legendary agent gone rogue. But as you lead your elite team across hostile alien worlds, you will discover the true threat is far greater than anyone imagined.

And Bioware is making it, so we already know that gameplay will be good.

Just completed it and this is game of the year easily. The level ups and equipment management don't detract from the action and the pacing is perfect.
The story is brilliantly written and well acted, your choices have major impacts on the storyline and the subplots so choose well. After watching the ending, I cannot wait for the sequel but it worries me. Unless they do what Shenmue did and let you load a save game from the prequel, a lot won't make too much sense.
I'm gonna go after that game completed twice now with a different type of character....

It's hard to say. Character-wise, yes. All the people and aliens are brilliantly modeled and animated but a lot of the levels are lacking in detail, because they're sparse, unpopulated alien worlds.
Assasins Creed definatly as more detailed level design.

This is awesome. The story is involving and the graphics on the characters are the best i've ever seen. It feels like Knights of the Old Republic at times but different. The real time dialog is what every RPG should be using. And the combat is ok but you can't switch between squad members only order them.
Played for almost 4 hours and haven't even scratched the surface yet. So much to see and do. 10/10 best RPG of the year hands down. Game of the year candidate.

Honestly, though, I'm fucking loving Mass Effect. I haven't played a video game this intensely in ages. BioWare have just been churning out greatness. I'm not familiar with Baldur's Gate, or anything pre-Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, but KOTOR and everything since have just been some of the most awesome stories told with the medium.
I am yet to complete the game, and I don't want to focus on the negatives, but I wish the sidequests were more character-based, and allowed you to interact more with your party members, and really get to know them that little bit better. I might be coming up to some like that, though.
Great game. :y::y:

I completed the game, but I'm going to go back with an old save file and try again. I got a lot of missions for them, but there were a few characters I could not get some for, and I only found one based on my past. I did things pretty thoroughly, but I guess I must have just advanced through the game too fast.
Thanks for the knowledge. :y:
By the way, Mass Effect just has a simply brilliant story. I was just waiting for a major twist, but the writers at BioWare have kind of moved beyond that now, I guess. Twists in stories have seemingly been replaced with startling dramatic moments.

Just beat the game. Unbeliveable. A few minutes under 50 hours to complete, but I had a blast.
Some thoughts. They're highlighted due to spoilers being involved.
I wish the side mission layouts had a different feel to them. It one of 3 or 4 floor layouts whereever you went. Got boring after a while.
Could have done a better job randomizing the weapons with the Weapons Master in the cargo hold. I got hold of the Geth Armory license late in the game and wanted some badass armor and weapons to go into the final battle.
"The Choice" brought a tear to my eye. Literally. That was one of the hardest thing I ever had to make in a game.
Hopefully in the second game, I wanna meet the Shadow Broker.
I ran with Tali alot on the game. However, I thought that BioWare neglected her the most. I think the best armor I could find for her was a level 7 Onyx. Everyone else I had were equipped with top gear.
Finally. I hope that in the second game, you can load up your old save. With all the decisions I made, I hope that they can be reflected in the next one. For example, I let the Rachni Queen go free on Noveria, bump into Wrex's Merc friend he told me about, hell, even get burned by the Shadow Broker cause I wouldn't give him the data I got.
Got a shock when I was reading the credits and found out that Lance Henriksen voiced Admiral Hackett.
Definately gonna be starting this again. Damn good job on Voice cast. Keep up the good work BioWare.

Sweet. Downloadable content coming our way pretty soon.
From cheatcc.com
Mass Effect will get its first installment of DLC on March 10, 2008. The content pack will be known as “Bring Down the Sky” and it will cost you only 400 points. This is the beginning of a series of Mass Effect DLC that will be available exclusively via Xbox LIVE. It expands the universe of Mass Effect and continues the adventures of Commander Sheppard and the crew of the Normandy.
The BioWare official website broke the news. Here are some of the story details:
“Bring Down the Sky includes a new uncharted world that introduces the notorious and feared alien race of the Batarians. A Batarian extremist group has hijacked a mobile asteroid station in the Asgard system, setting it on a collision course with the nearby colony world of Terra Nova. Only Commander Shepard can save the millions of innocent civilians before the asteroid completes its deadly descent. Bring Down the Sky contains approximately 90 minutes of heart-pounding action and a new Achievement worth 50 Gamerscore points.”

I gave my buddy a chance to play last night. He played for four hours, and the story he went through was pretty fucking hot.
I started playing, but have only logged about half an hour of time. Based on that, I think I can play that four hours in like 30 more minutes. He's not good at finding his way around computer environments for some reason.
Combat feels slightly cludgy to me, but not too bad. Overall, pretty damn good.
I like that your "profile" and "Background" affect dialogue. Az decided to play the war veteran, distinguished service, the whole nine. I've opted for a survivor, and noted the dialogue changes. Pretty effing cool. I also like that your answers change based on various stuff. I can see myself loving this game in a way that's only legal in Arkansas.

You mean after you ditch the Mako?
There's a glitch that'll allow you to bring in the Mako to the fight. I managed to do it by myself pretty easily, though my squad kept dying on me. After I used Unity a few times, I gave up and let them stay dead for the fight. Fewer people to block me while I was running for cover. Being a Vanguard, I managed to take them down with biotics and a pistol. It took a while, though.

Glitch: Use Mako on Therum Mini-Boss Fight
It is possible to take the Mako through the gap in between the two rocks, where you are supposed to get out and travel on foot. Drive in to the gap, then from inside the gap drive up the left rock, until you are completely on your side, wedged between both rocks. Slowly inch forward and use boosts to slide through the gap.
The geth and the walkers (the mini boss fight after the video) will not attack the Mako, and they die after only a couple of cannon shots.

The Krogan was easy as a Vanguard. As a soldier, I'm not 100 percent sure there should even be a need for a strategy. I took cover, and shot the shit out of things.
BigDaddyCool
02-22-2008, 12:08 PM
Yeah, I need to get cover then, do you kill all the geth first?
Kane Knight
02-22-2008, 05:08 PM
I did, but I don't think it's necessary. It's just that the Geth kind of threw themselves at me, and if they were that desperate to die, who was I to say no?
I hit dover first thing, and the Krogan made sure he was out of my reach until the ohers had all been dropped--Which took about ten seconds. Then, like most Krogan in the game, he charged me, so I hit him with Warp and Throw and then powered up Marksman and pumped him until he was dead. Granted, you don't have biotics, but you should be able to chew him up.
Also, if you're really having trouble, don't forget you can order your squad.
BigDaddyCool
02-22-2008, 08:51 PM
I finally got it so the entire squad kill the geth while the krogan hide. Then the started charging the squad and I shot the hell out of him.

For the most part, I find this game retardedly easy. I'm not even that good at shooters, but normal has presented me with little challenge. I know there are harder difficulties which will probably challenge me more...Well at all...But still.
The hardest parts, and I use that loosely, are the MAKO bits. Without biotics and other special abilities, it's a bit harder to deal. Even then, I've only even had to repair the MAko once.
Still, the game's compelling enough that I don't even mind the fetch quests and sometimes tedious Mako portions.

Still, the game's compelling enough that I don't even mind the fetch quests and sometimes tedious Mako portions.
I find it hard to kill those giant worm things.

Thresher Maws aren't that bad. Just do some mad circling and fire off a round or two and hope he don't pop up under you.

As long as you don't sit still, you should be fine.

The only time I've been jumped by one from under me was when they glitched my Mako so it was stuck in place.

That was a freaking awesome ending, but it's too bad it ended so soon.
Spoilers ahead, bitches.
So I chose the Paragon ending (Save the council) and the choice of Udina as their human rep. I'm wondering how the other endings differ, all in all. I'm assuming the council dies when you choose to say "fuck them," but how do the different endings play out? I know there are only two endings with two variations apiece.
I loved it when Joker took the Normandy in in the final assault. I was wondering if he'd make it out. I mean, even the best pilot in the fleet's got limits, yes?
Also, I'm glad Anderson survived. I love David Keith, and I loved the character. Plus, him headbutting the security guard (If you choose that route) was fucking badass.
End Spoilers.

I've figured out on all the pirate/merc bases. It is easiest to lure all the morons to the base doors and kill them from there. Same trick works everytime.
Though, I wish a second and third play could control the rest of the squad.

It doesn't help that there are only three base designs ever.

I assume that the pirate bases are prefabs that are "dropped" there which is why they look the same from the outside and there are only so many things that can be done to change the insides. But now that I think about it, you would assume there would be different builders with different designs in a galaxy.
Now, I would expect every military base to have the same lay out...assuming they are from the same military.

Of course, the military isn't necessarily the same, nor are the "orefabs" all from the same culture. Or thy shouldn't be.

I was just trying to find a logical explaination to get around lazy programmers.

Lazy programming's a pretty good reason.

I love the fact that the DLC is gonna have another one of the identical fortresses, too.

Should be up indefinitely. I'm not sure why they'd take it down.
Apparently, it's not even like a full planet, it's more like the side missions. I'm not sure I want to pay five bucks for something only slightly more than one of the standard side missions.

Sheesh. After starting my second game and going though all the crap before I could go planet hopping, finally played Bring Down the Sky. Took me a while but it was well worth it. The home stretch was a pain in the ass.

Honestly, the first thing you do is fight in that generic ship, that is on every planet. After that I had to leave, and havn't played since, as smash bros. and my new ps3 have kept me from finishing.
Also, kk, buy Planet Earth on Blu-ray. Its incredible.
Uncharted is a really fun game too.

Spoilers in black.
It took me a good while to complete cause there were alot of things you had to do. The obvious of course being to stop the asteroid from hitting the planet, but you had a side job of finding some lost engineers. You also had to sorta work a through a maze of proximity mines. In the end however, you confront the big boss. And you are left with another huge decision.
In the end you get the achivement, and the choice of 6 (well 5 to be exact, 2 of the choices are the same but one is a paragon way of asking and the other is a renegade way. But you got the choice between a Omni-tool, Quarian Armor, Light, Medium, or Heavy Human Armor.
IMO, this add-on is worth the points. But I wouldn't give it a try unless you're on your second play through, or your just wrapping up all space traveling in your first.

Playing my second playthrough now (predominantly to reach the point where I can play the downloadable mission) and enjoying it with all my kick ass armour and the like, should really have put it on a harder difficulty level....but i pussed out.
