they cater to the high school kids.
yeah it was cool back in 98 when I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL
They gotta make two feds with differewnt demographics, but that wont happen
and as HARDCORE wrestling fans, we still wanna be fans, we will always watch it, but the product is not directed at us
we might as well be critiqing Barney

I find alot of the stuff on TV not for me, but I will admit to saying that the following had the potential to keep the older demographic tuned into wrestling:
-Old school John Cena
-Sean O'Haire
-Goldust and Booker T
-The Rock as General Manager
-Stephanie McMahon nip slip
-Kane push
They cater to children in general more, but yea. Problem is wrestling doesn't really do research and development on their product and thus never really try and develop it.

when they were in competition with WCW, they were trying to be the more hip product. Man, back then, to me WCW was too redneck, hick Diesel Mac for my liking, so WWF was the tried and true, the original mackdaddy, and they made wrestling COOL AGAIN (ie. Austin, Val Venis, Godfather, The Rock etc) but once they felt comfortable, they started to COAST, they got our attention, but couldn't keep it evolving. But then again, there was no competion, so there was no motivation
I wish one day, that wrestling could be cool again

I think it would be so much better if it did appeal to high school kids. All the high school kids I know think it is fucking stupid.

Realistically, they haven't appealed to high school kids in years. Since 18-35 is the hot demographic to get, high school would be a step in the right direction.
Don't you mean they cater elementary school?

If they catered to high school kids, it'd be more like MTV, and that couldn't be a good thing.

Although it's WAY easier said than done, the WWE needs to do a better of job of recognizing what's "hip" in modern day society (and unfortunately, it's no longer "hip" to use the word "hip" in modern day society! :shifty:).
-In the late 80's/early 90's, society loved "the good guy"...."the hero." Hulk Hogan delivered from that standpoint.
-In the late 90's, society loved the "the rebel". The guy that stuck it to his boss. Someone who was cocky, defiant, and didn't give a shit about what others thought. Guys like Steve Austin, The Rock, nWo, and Degeneration X were the perfect vehicles.
-Now? It's VERY difficult to determine what exactly the fans want. Good guy? Been there, done that! The rebel? Been there, done that!
I'm not sure exactly WHO or WHAT is the cream of society right now, but the WWE has to find it.

I think, for the most part, people still love the anti-hero. That's why Cena was so cheered as a thuggish rapper, Orton was cheered with his "Legend Killer" Gimmick, and CM Punk out-popped the Second Coming. :shifty:
If Austin were around today, and just getting started, they would have turned him into an unbeatable babyface against cartoonish odds the second he got popped.

You make a great point, I have been thinking about this kind of thing lately, if WWE had some competition again (i.e TNA becoming a legit threat, which its not at the moment) maybe that would wake them the hell up, make them really push to make a quality product again.

I have a few ideas to improve Raw.
One, Triple H needs to be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine. Two, whenever Triple H is not on-screen, all the other characters should be asking 'Where's Triple H?' Three …
Actually, that's pretty much all true now.

Three, pair Triple H with the current hottest face, then have Triple H save said face.

I think a Stone Cold type character is the way to go. Since when have we seen one? John Cena doesn't count, because he helped Vince fire Eric Bischoff, and he gets special entrances and is overproduced to the max.
For a while, it looked like good wrestling was the future of the WWE. When Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit were respective World Champions, the WWE had kind of felt like it ticked into a new era. It all started with Paul Heyman's booking on SmackDown!, with Brock Lesnar looking like a beast, and Kurt Angle being the MVP of the brand.
Right now, I think the WWE has its best shot in years of escaping the rut of bad writing it has had going for it. Chris Jericho is back, and charismatic enough to make shit work. If they let him write his own promos, and wrestle his own matches (which they probably will), then Jericho will be the best thing going for the WWE. I also like what they're doing with Finlay. His face-ish turn should hopefully lead to him becoming a top face. I'm going to mark out when he threatens to knock Vince's throat down his teeth.
