View Full Version : So, when is Punk going to turn heel?

I dunno. You see, I'm a Punk mark, but at the moment I'm quite apathetic towards his current position. Sure, he's a title holder and has a healthy portion of screen time but it just seems that there's not a lot going on, and I've lost interest.
Since he is the most over performer on the show, shouldn't they have him doing something? There's no real feud. No competition. No rivalry.
Turn him heel. Have him go down the old "I'm better than you" road... OR...
Take the belts off Miz and Morrison, have one of them win or let Punk chase the title again.

I thought he already was.

He gets a mild face reaction.
...Which means he might be doomed to be a face forever.
He'll get staler and staler, and then be blamed for lacking passion when his completely dull direction starts to kill his drive to perform.
...But that's my half-asleep, half-sick take on things. I'm sure a more optimistic me would try to book this shit.

And a more retarded you might book him to....Oh, I don't have the heart.
So....The guy with a mild face reaction is the most over guy on the show?

It is ECW.
It might not be a mild reaction, it might just be a small audience.

Aren't ECW and SD the same thing now?
I thought Punk got the biggest pops in the company?
I just don't know what to believe anymore.

If he ever jumps over to Smackdown, that'd be a good time to turn him.
But until ECW gets another face who can get a decent reaction, he's not turning.

No, ECW and SD aren't the same at all. Smackdown has more matches and seemingly better production quality over ECW. I find it hysterical that ECW is it's own brand, yet it's actually pre-show to Smackdown.
Triple H and Michaels get the biggest pops right now, which annoys me. If it makes you feel any better, Punk get's the biggest pops on ECW...another mild annoyance.

You mean the ECW audience?
Which is also the Smackdown audience?

You know, Velocity and Heat were also "smaller," filmed before other shows, etc., and managed to get strong reactions. Actually, when Heat was "live," it got some pretty strong response.
So I'm not sure where you're going with that.
Beyond that, Trips and Michaels get piped in pops, as is evident when they pan over the crowd. I'm actually not sure who gets the biggest pops on Raw, or overall, since, you know, they do their best to cover up legit reactions and bring in fake reactions.
The crowds are lukewarm at best, period. Though to his credit, Punk is probably still out-popping DX. :shifty:

Nobody really gets the biggest pop in the company, it varys from show to show and venue to venue.
Punk has gotten the biggest pop of the night, reportedly, at a good amount of his shows which include Smackdown and ECW. That of course means his only real competition is Batista and Rey Mysterio.
Michaels and Triple H get big pops, as does Jeff Hardy and the jury is still out on Jericho since he's been back for 2 weeks and one was his debut (naturally a big pop) and one was a generally dead crowd (which he, Triple H, hometown Flair, and Hardy were said to about tie at)
Punk also has popped very well for himself when he's appeared on Raw and split brand ppvs.
So who knows, Punk def gets some of the biggest pops in the company right now, consistently. But so did Road Dogg and Xpac, and Al Snow, so only time will tell. And as some will surely point out, to which they'd be correct, is that the state of the company and fans makes the biggest pop of the night not as special as it once was.

Road Dogg outpopped DX.
Well since Punk is the current poster boy for "not all our champions do drugs!", I'm guessing he's going to be face for awhile.

Well we all know that if you're not large, you have to be exceptionally talented and super over to become a champion in WWE. Shawn, Jericho and Eddie were able to do it. Rey even did it (even though to many here it never happened).
CM Punk is talented, and could flourish as a character in time. He is very over. BUT he's not exceptional. At least not yet. Who knows if he could be or not, but like talked about in the other thread I think he'd have to have a successful heel run and do the stuff I've seen him do in ROH on the stick to get to that point.
Then, maybe then, the WWE will consider him for a bigger push. It's a big if, and he'd realistically have to improve his physique. It's something I don't care about, but we know Vince and some fans do. This doesn't mean roids.
But as of now, these pops and this level of popularity isn't gonna get it done because we've seen it before in guys who never passed the IC level. He may be a "world" champion but the ECW belt is more analagous to the IC or US titles than world champion and I think everyone knows that despite the kayfabe view.
He's doing just fine now and is on a good pace, but he has a long way to go.

So what happens when he's caught with a needle in his arm?

So what happens when he's caught with a needle in his arm?
He gets a Raw world title push
So what happens when he's caught with a needle in his arm?
I'm guessing it will be a turn in his career, but not exactly a heel turn.

It'll be both.
Punk: Yeah, I do drugs. I smoke a little crack, I drink a little booze, but so what? Your mom spent half of your life leaving you to fend for yourself while she hangs out with her pimp and shoot up. Does that make her a bad person? No. Her lifestyle choice was that she was a drugged up slut. Me? Sure I indulge every now and then, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm better than you. Look at Jake Roberts, he spent half of his career under the influence of booze and drugs, yet he was still a better performer than 90% guys back then. In fact, Jake was the guy who taught me how to do my first line.

Sorry Jerry, the times I've actually seen Him on Raw and PPV's He's got a minimal reaction. If He had got a major reaction I would have noticed due to my stance on Him.
I'll hark on back to that PPV where He faced Morrison. ZERO reaction for both competitors. It made me laugh it was that bad. Crowd was dead for most of the match.

In fact, the only time I've noticed a strong reaction for him (Cross brand) was in the ring with DX, using a Triple H catchphrase. Kinda makes you think, doesn't it?
He's essentially Poochie without a catch phrase. HOOOOOOOO-RAH!

Everytime I see him he gets a pretty decent pop. Granted I watch ECW once every month. But everytime I read the spoilers he's reported as getting a big pop, top 2 or 3 of the night. I know you're going to say that is flawed because I didn't hear it with my own two ears but you act like he never gets popped when he does consistently.
I don't really care either way. I don't feel the need to argue pops are there that aren't, or make things up to defend a guy I like. Yes, I like Punk, but I'm not as delusional about him or his popularity or future as his marks.

No, and I appreciate that you're not making shit up for the sake of your argument.

Another reason why Jeritron is awesome.
