Yeah, let's talk about fighting games that don't get enough love in here.
Like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (SNES version). That game was the tits, lots of characters from the comics, but still managed to fit in the TV show stuff too. This game was a total Street Fighter 2 knockoff, but it did everything so well. It also had super moves that could totally rape your opponents, depending on who you were playing (remember this ish was out in 1994, so it was before Capcom did it, but after SNK).
This game was so fucking awesome. Also, Rat King was a roid freak.
There was a Genesis version, but it was pretty crap. Also, the was an NES version apparently.
Yeah, so post some other obscure shits.

The Power Ranger game for the Genesis.
Where you like beat up the Green Ranger first, then Dragonzoid, then he join your group of selectable characters...never got very far, but I throught it was tits as well..
TNMT was a double set of tits, so I agree with Funky on that.

Dark Rift too.
Played Mace pretty recently. Pretty terrible actually. But it was all the 64 had besides Smash Bros and another underrated fighter:
Fighter's Destiny.
That was another sweet ass game. I always felt like they could make a legit series out of it with tweaking and graphical improvement, but what do they go and do? Crap out Fighter Destiny 2, that's what. Godawful sequel that was more broken than fixed. They ever screwed up the title.

Wasn't Fighter's Destiny the one Capcom sued over for being almost exactly the same as Street Fighter II?

No. It was 3D and instead of the typical 2/3 round fight until the health bar is empty fighter, the premise was that health regenerated over time and it was first to 8 points wins. You could gain points through a knockdown, counter down, throw down, ring out or special move. When you drain a person's health bar, they get stunned and can only move back/forward and jump. Most moves only knock your opponent back and you only score points by getting them off their feet. I'll break it down:
Knockdown: either deplete the health bar then punch/kick your opponent down while they are stunned or execute a knockdown move (hard strike with blue cloudy effect). 2 pts
Counter: exactly what it sounds like. You time a quick strike or capture takedown to connect before you opponent (blue-gray starburst effect). 3 pts
Throw: Um, grab the guy and throw him. Yeah. 3 pts
Ring out: force the guy to hang from a ledge and stomp his ass off. Or if you're on the ledge, pull the other guy down by his ankles before you get stomped. 1 pt
Special move: each person had 1 or 2 super damaging attacks that can only be executed when a character is stunned.
I should note that throws could be escaped from or counter thrown. Like you could cartwheel out of a judo hiptoss or you could flip through and hiptoss them right back.

Not sure if people consider it underrated or not, but I thoroughly enjoyed Killer Instinct.
Dark Rift for N64 was pretty good too, but I don't know anyone else who's ever played it.

Loved TMNT TF, as well.
By the way, Funky, that also had one of the most underrated babes in a fighting game in Aska, didn't it?
(was going to post a pic of her here, but apparently no one has ever heard of posting a clean pic of anything about this game on a website besides the title screen).

She was a good character but completely made up. Not from any of the various comic series or the tv shows.

Clayfighters was great, and so was Fighter's History (random death matches and shit)
I was also a fan of Samurai Showdown.

The Last Blade is a cool SNK fighter that gets hardly any attention.

I can't remember the name, but it was a DC fighter game with Darkseid then the usual superheroes. Being the Flash was pretty tits.
Killer Instinct.

Garou: Mark Of The Wolves.
The last great Neo Geo fighter. Stands up with SFIII 3rd Strike graphically on an ancient machine by this point and plays wonderfully.
SFIII 3rd Strike is still my personal fave though.
Justice League: Task Force SNES.
You played as heros and villains from the DC Universe and each character had their own pretty sweet powers. It was tournament style one-on-one fights like MK, and I think the supervillain was Darkseid. Only time I've ever been able to play out Batman vs. Superman on a game.

I loved that game back in the day. It hurts that they never made a third parter :'(
And I don't know if this counts, but... Puzzle Fighter.

Last Blade and Garou are easily 2 of the best fighters ever.
SNK was so good at this shit, it was ridiculous.

I rented that once like 11 years ago. Pretty terrible overall except for this one time my brother and I were doing Superman vs Superman and we got a double KO hitting each other with heat vision and super breath at the same time. Awesome.

I posted the 10 worst fighting games up there so here's the 10 best from the same guys.
Pretty solid list this one, minus the lack of SNK
