View Full Version : I'm sorry, but Triple H's "funny" character annoys me

It'd help if he were actually funny. Turn heel already, Trips.

He was funny enough. The annoying thing is watching him hinting at his relationship with SMH. If nothing else, he was married to her onscreen, and so it seems totally fucking retarded to act like there's some big secret. Not to mention the mentions of their real life marriage on WWE.com, which is still a KAYFABE source for the most part.

It was cute once or twice.

Otherwise, I don't know, he's funny compared to the competition. Sure, that doesn't equate to comedic genius, but it's fucking wrestling.

Overall I find him funny... It's just that he gets too much mic time and his jokes usually go on for a long time.

One of my favorite funny HHH moment was when Tajiri sprayed him with the green mist. After a commercial break he was yelling at someone, but it was actually a plant. Such a lame joke, but I laughed my ass off.

The guy is not devoid of any kind of comic talent. He's great at playing the straight man, which works for when Edge & Christian are playing their kazoos, or Kurt Angle is being a complete dork and hinting that he wants to sleep with Triple H's wife, but the guy is not comedian material. Santino Marella is actually a funny guy. He's like the cool guy at school, who runs the roost, and just uses profanity in place of wit when making jokes.

I liked the guy a lot better when he was a sadistic, humorless bastard who took the business as life and death. It was believable that a guy like that would pay someone to run over one of his biggest rivals, and that he'd bust out a sledgehammer and crack some skulls to prevent anyone from threatening his grip on the show.

The character as it is, is just a mess. As KK said, we get it, Triple H sleeps with Steph. Either acknowledge it or don't. It also annoys me when he makes references to being over. He's over enough as a top babyface, but he's nowhere near approached the level of The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Rob Van Dam or even Chris Jericho. He's probably a Kurt Angle equivalent in terms of his babyface-role reaction. Also knowing that the guy is a cock, and bitches about guys like Chris Jericho backstage, and goes out of his way to bury certain people...it's just a personal thing I can't stand about the character, that makes it impossible to connect with.

Some of his comments were pretty rofl

He's funny. Has been since DX. He's also a great wrestler who's got a dope ass wife who's a billionaire princess.

KK- Exactly my thoughts on the hhh/steph thing. We all know they're married ffs, it was an onscreen thing a while back. I guess the writers have short memories.

They got divorced around WrestleMania 18 - remember the "custody battle" over the dog?

If anything I'd like them to at least explain it in storylines instead of ignoring the past.

I was going to make a thread at how HHH is probably the best they got right now.

In a kayfabe sense, I don't look at that as him acknowledging their RL relationship, I see it as "hey, we used to be married. Remember that, when we used to boink?"

HHH's funny gimmick is better than the "I'm uhhhhh The uhhhhhh Game uhhhhh" gimmick.

Alienoid, what the fuck are you watching? Are we watching the same program? ...because I'm getting sceptical. There is no way in hell that you can really think RVD is more over than Triple H.

He's good in small doses. Or with a side of HBK. Not the new Christian HBK, the old HBK. The dead one.

Triple H isn't funny.

Ok, never heard that one. Maybe it's, um, like some kind of macho thing? Like "go to my house so we can have sex like we used to because you miss my enormous weiner?" :shifty:

And the bit where they were talking about the guy who got Steph pregnant? Was it, like, delayed sperm syndrome?

You don't pay much attention to Alienoid, do you?

I want to make this perfectly clear:

Nobody pays much attention to Alienoid. He's kept around for laughs alone.

...well he DID marry her when she was unconscious, maybe he...

I thought it was clear(as far as the Steph thing goes).

To me they're acknowledging kayfabe itself. As in HHH is using it to rib Vince, and Vince hates it because to him its like 'I don't want people knowing your married to her'. Thats the impression I got since DX was ribbing Vince about the baby and whatnot anyway.

Yeah and I find HHH funny. He's like the 'smark' comedien now. Coming out with apparent inside jokes and stuff. If someone suggested that to me, I'd think it would be terrible. But 9 times out of 10 it makes me laugh.

Alienoid, what the fuck are you watching? Are we watching the same program? ...because I'm getting sceptical. There is no way in hell that you can really think RVD is more over than Triple H.

I mean at their general peaks. When RVD was around, he was always getting great pops. Triple H gets those pops that JR calls massive, but remind you how crappy crowds are today. A reflection of the industry today, perhaps, but still, the guy talks like he's Stone Cold Steve Austin. Whenever the Glass Shatters, the place erupts. The guy is just much more natural as a heel.

And Triple H is not funny. Fox said it best. I laughed let out a "Ha" when he and HBK shipped The Spirit Squad off to OVW, but that was obviously a written joke. Any of the "I love cock" stuff with Vince is just awful. In fact, anything since he turned face has been awful.

The guy is not naturally a funny person. He's got enough wit in him to know when something is funny, pick it up and run it into the ground, but that is about it.

Kane Knight
12-13-2007, 12:57 PM
I mean at their general peaks.

Wait, what?

From your next sentence, you're talking modern Trips. Wouldn't their general peaks both not involve anything from the last couple of years? I have an incredibly hard time believing anyone thinks Triple H is at his peak now, or has been any time recently.

I think Trips has funny moments but he can't do the corny comedy he sometimes tries.

BigDaddyCool
12-13-2007, 04:23 PM
I'm not sure if it is HHH that isn't funny, or that fact that he is alway trying to be funny with Vince. I think Vince is the problem. Making joke about how he sexualizes anything from Mea Young to Pat Patterson to a house plant is wearing thin.

I like it. It's refreshing. Yes I enjoy the evil, sadistic Triple H but we had that nonstop for like 5 years. The way he was when he was face back in 2002 didn't work and that's why they changed him back to heel pretty quick. The fans seem to love his shit right now so I say keep him as he is for now, it's not run its course quite yet.

No way is Triple H at his peak now. Take Triple H at his most popular, and weigh him against RVD at his most popular, and I'm fairly certain RVD would win out.

:| Yeah, rhyming is gold.

I did laugh when Vince said "I hate you" to Triple H, and he clicked his fingers as if to same "Damn," but honestly, that is the closest thing Triple H has done to funny.

I'm sure Triple H is a fun guy to have a drink with, but as the comedian he is trying to play...he's a hack.

It'd be funnier if it were apt.

He's just not as funny as people make him out to be. "Your brother's a gnome" wasn't really all that funny. Actually, replace "all that" with "remotely. I guess I partially agree with Alienoid. Not because he can't be funny, but because he's not as funny as he tries to be.

It was funny on the Anniversary for the most part, I agree. And I saw the first 5-10 minutes of Raw last week before I had the notion that I could stare at a blank screen and be more amused, and Trips was okay, just not brilliant.
